Thank you for the honest review . Refreshing to see an admitted gas car lover not take the opportunity to trash EVs with misinformation. My wife and I have been fully electric for almost three years now and we absolutely love it, never going back. Ohh, I used to love the purr of my Mustang, but you quickly get over all of that nostalgia real fast.
Thanks for the review. We have a 2022 Lightning Lariat extended range. I'm 66 years old and have owned everything from small German sports cars to musclecars, to gas and diesel pickups, to a Mack semi tractor. The Lightning is by far the best I've ever owned. Even though we currently own two gas vehicles, including a heavily modified Mustang GT, we take the Lightning everywhere, including on long road trips.
This is probably the most honest EV review I’ve seen to date. Our company has a fleet of EVs, including two of the XLT lightings. From a total cost of owner ship perspective, EVs can’t be beat. They also offer many other advantages, and are just nice to drive. There are some use cases that are still best served with an ICE vehicle, but at that comes with an operating cost that is about 80% more than an EV. For our business, it’s not about politics, it’s about saving money. I doubt that most drivers will need any convincing on the advantages of EVs in another five years or so.
I’ve had my 2023 Lightening XLT for 7 months now. I’ve had 7 ICE F150’s, an Explorer & an Expedition. By far, the Lightening is my favorite. It’s my daily driver, I do little trailering and few long trips. I charge once every 2 weeks, overnight, while I sleep. It’s perfect for me. It’s fast, rides great, comfortable and is STILL a F150, like you said. My reaction to the torque was exactly like yours! It’s so damn cool!
This is the best EV advertisement I've ever seen. We do a lot of one hour daily trips, but now that we're down to one NS-Ontario highway trip per year, a rig like this could work for us. I'd like to see you test out the GM version.
@@OldeCarrGuy You testing one of those with their 440 miles of range (or 500 with mixed town/city and highway driving) would be a blast to see. Even towing 10,000 lbs it would go around 230 miles on all highway driving on a single charge. Much longer without all high speed driving. You recover a lot of energy on slowing down/stopping or downhill driving.
Great review, Jason. I love my EV, but fully acknowledge that switching over to electric isn't easy for everyone. The variety of options is improving, pricing is getting better, and the availability of chargers is growing (maybe not fast enough for some, but it's progress). Kudos to you for being open to seeing what they're like!
Remember the features you pointed out that are missions because that's essentially the base model XLT (not counting commercial Pro). Move up a trim and you get all those features.
I just traded in my 2020 F150. I have seen a lot of people showing the different models on UA-cam. But. Not the one I had. 6 foot bed. Crew cab. XLT. FX4 off-road and tow. 3.5l Ecoboost. What made it different was the gears. 3.55. I needed a different type of vehicle. Why I traded it in. Other then that. No way. Just on the hwy. 4 over the speed limit. 36-gallon gas tank. After filling up. Max range. 720 miles. I don't name vehicles. The pickup had one. Jet. Add wings and it would fly. 3.5l Ecoboost with the 3.55 gears. Someone ended up with an amazing pickup. Power, hp, and speed.
I have a 2001 Silverado 2500HD, Had it for 19 years now. Added a 2024 Lightning Lariat last month. Lightning is all I drive now. Rides so smooth, 580hp. I did delete the backup alarm however.
Best thing to go with an EV is off grid solar. I have saved $17k in 8 years not buying gas for our every day driving. I still have my Dodge diesel for real farm work. But the quiet smooth operation of an e v is something to think about.
The cash is the real deal. And you are so right about the quiet smooth ride and the thing is its not just an EV.....Its an F150!! Ive had my 2023 XLT for 5 months and havent punched it like that yet. Just half on the accelerator is incredible. Also im not sure if you were in sport mode or not but there is a difference in power there compared to regular mode. I love this thing. I dont need long distance towing so this truck is absolutely right up my alley. Great video
I got a great deal on a 2024 lightning lariat. The sticker price was 83 thousand and after all the incentives and cuts. My final purchase price was 67 thousand. Now people will say 67 thousand is still a lot of money. But after being quoted 64 thousand for a 2024 F 150 gas lariat 67 thousand wasn’t terrible.
5 years ago I said if manufacturers want folks to buy more EVs, they need 3 things: 1. Equal or lesser purchase price 2. Equal or greater range on top up 3. Not to look ugly or different These lightning’s have hit all three, yet still not selling as well as the Dumpster truck! I don’t get it!
@@OldeCarrGuy Gas is relatively cheap for quite awhile now. If/when it ever gets high again I think you will see more convert in a hurry. Otherwise as these ev's slowly get the bugs worked out there are going to be really nice. Will take some time but we cant stop whats coming..
@@OldeCarrGuy its not selling because people cant be bothered with planning on charging for road trips and waiting 45+ mins each time and those that tow will hate it. Another issue is the battery has a 8 year warranty if you need to replace it you could be looking at $25,000
Enjoyed the review. I love my Lightning and am still shocked at the speed, quiet smoothness, and excellent ride quality, due to the independent rear suspension. Not counting oil changes and other mechanical maintenance, I figure it costs me about 25% of what I would pay with an ICE F-150. Ford did a great job. Loved the big grin when you gave it the beans.
Truly great review. Thank you. Hoping to pick up a Lightning as a business truck at the end of the year. I'd urge business owners to look at the $7500 Commercial Clean Vehicle Credit along with the Section 179 Deduction of $30,500 for trucks between 6,000 and 14,000 lbs.
Great review!! Loved your and SD reaction to the torque of the electric! I guess the EV is the final “olde Carr” upgrade. Your videos have had headlights replaced with LED’s, carbs replaced with EFI, factory radios replaced with high tech modern equivalents, and old seating replaced with something out of a comfy modern piece. The engine is the final frontier!!
I own a lariat extended range in upstate ny and do my best to keep on top of all information related to Evs in general. I briefly owned a plug in hybrid, but hated the tech involved I’ve used my truck to power my house when we lost power for a few days this summer during a heat wave, which was extremely useful (used my bed power outlets; lariat has a power tailgate) I really enjoyed this review- you gave it a fair shot and frankly I laughed really hard at the acceleration portion I haven’t towed anything with my truck yet (I don’t really know if I’ll have any need to tbh) but found that portion of the video really interesting Thanks for making this! Y’all seem like great people
Very refreshing to see an unbiased review of an EV. We love our PHEV Kia Niro; over 100mpg average over 10,000 miles because most days the 36mile EV range covers our needs. The senseless "battle" for ever higher towing capacity cost consumers the original mini-truck option. Hopefully this will not happen with EV pick-ups. Not everyone road trips with a 40-ft boat hooked up.
Don't get me wrong, I am biased, however I wanted to give my honest review! This truck (and the theory of EV) has swayed me back in the other direction just a bit!
The towing battle had nothing to do with the mini truck going away. The EPA mandates base mpg on wheelbase and normal small vehicles couldnt pass EPA standards so wheelbase increased. That and crash safety standards.
@@drgnfr20 They had increased towing capacities and GVW to the point where they cost more to make than a regular 1/2ton. The EPA thing was not the reason; not making profit was.
Hi! All the options that was missing on the XLT are on the Lariat. I bought a 2023 in february and… Never used my F350 6.0 powerstroke again… Except for two storms in Sept-Iles, Qc where I had to remove it from the snow bank… I gave that truck to one of my friend for free this summer. I never used it since I bought the Lightning anyways. I’m always in the forest and on the road. Since february 1 I did 34 000km… And I’m happy since day one! Nice video btw. Thank you!
Some of the features you asked about are options on different trims. I got my 23 Lightning pro for 38k OTD. Honestly love it! I will tell people who are new to electric vehicles that its great but depends on your driving needs. Highway driving does chew away your range. In my experience Id say the furtherest Id drive mine is 3 hours because then you have stop and charge frequently.
I love my lightning. When I first got it I planned on turning it in for the Mach E rally. Took it down to the local drag strip beat two Corvette c08, beat a Cadillac, beat a fox body, and beat a turbo diesel Dodge. It was a great night and I decided to keep it after all that :-) Plus now I can do pick up stuff looking to get a hiker trailer to tow around for fun :-)
In Ok pso is 2.5cents per kw 11 pm to 6 am . Fillups cost me less than 3 bucks 0-100 and I easily go 260 miles at full speed . That sold me . And the gas version was over 10k more for my lariat . Sold!
@@OldeCarrGuy by the way you got the grins on the "slow" lariat. 0 to 30 you dont feel that much of a difference but add those 130 something ponies and when accelerating the the new 580 feel wonderful! Plus the range in winter is bearable. But for me the sale was 3 dollar home fillups ( but 70 plus at EA... yuck!) . for the record... you should test drive a cyberbeast. it will really blow you sock off . the camera will end up in the back seat. Also if you have time a model S plaid. But if you find one a lucid saffire. Any of these 3 will readjust all your giggle factors to where a hemi will sadly no longer feel fast. By the way solid state batteries in cars should be less than a decade away. 10 min fills will take away all excuses. But till then if towing is needed for long distance nothing beats a diesel yet. hence why i still own my 2003 3500 dodge common rail :)
Great review! You guys cracked me up! “My feet were off the floor!” I have solar panels and with a few more kWhs of battery storage, I’ll be functionally off grid. I need an affordable, reliable, and very basic work truck. I’d love a very basic, Ranger sized, pickup for my business.
XLT for 2024 is the poverty spec now, cheapest interior and smallest battery. Pro is no longer available to non-fleets, at least here in the US. If you want heated steering wheel and power tailgate, step up to the Flash trim, it's the best value (basically the old XLT with bigger battery and some tech from Lariat). I'm getting mine for US$49,840 after incentives and discounts, plus tax. It's not the best truck but it is the best value, even better than a gasser.
I have been trying to talk myself into buying a 150 Lightning to replace my V8-powered 16 F150. Depreciation is my number one fear. For example, a loaded 2022 Lightning for sale near me had a window sticker of plus 80K. Its now for sale for under 50K and it's gorgeous. Big battery, all the bells and whistles with under 20,000 miles. Will the price continue to fall fast or has it leveled off?
Like anything, they will all depreciate. With these Lightnings still in their infancy, it's hard to say what the used market will look like. One option would be to lease. Leasing gives you the option to just walk away or buy for a predetermined price.
Buy used. And watch this... Game changing silent towing torque. Go to the 17:40 mark and watch a Rivian out accelerate a 5.7 hemi while the Rivian is towing 10,000 lbs. ua-cam.com/video/Zce-wC__kkU/v-deo.htmlsi=4dTeJTTAy6f5FVOv
I am glad they didn't go full nutty with the Lighting, body repairs are going to be more sensible, no "self presenting" door handles and I hear the ride is tough to beat. I am glad they toned down the jewelry (ie rear light bar) and I suspect it wouldn't be to hard to swap the front grill for something from a gasser.
@@OldeCarrGuy I think it would expose the contents in the Frunk to the elements. That would be the downside. Maybe they could make a closed grille that looks like it’s open when standing from a distance
"DUDE"!!! that is WICKED.. haha.. Jason, the only time I hear that from a passenger in my rigs is when Im in the Hoopty and whip it off my driveway and head down into the canyon! great video m'friend.. p.s. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the Cybertruck looks like a dumpster!! haha.. take care!!
There is no doubt the "Triangle" looks .......lets just say different, but it has its performance abilities that are very good. Tesla will continue to be an influence
For anyone considering a lightning, i recommend the extended range. It's even faster, has more range and will probably have better resale. I got my 23 XLT ER leftover sticker at 73k down to 53k. Happy hunting.
I'm leasing a 2023 Lightning XLT and love that it's quiet and that I save $2500 a year in energy costs (notice I didn't say gas.costs). I'm 64 years old.. I guess I'm a hip baby boomer.
Evs are great for a lot of things, I daily one and do long roadtrips, but long range towing is terrible still. A hybrid truck is probably the sweet spot for many right now. Like the F150 hybrid you can power equipment but have the gas engine for the range when towing.
I have a 2023 Ford Lightning Lariat ER and I think most of your complaints about the XLT interior is why Ford released the "Flash" version in 2024. I had a Tesla 3 and a RAM1500 prior to my Lightning. Just a quick retort: 1) Grill is all about aerodynamics to solve drag to extend range. Lightning is body of frame, while got Ford to market first, but Lightning has poor aero compared to unibody trucks. 2) IMHO....legacy shift is the worst part of the Lightning. It's clunky, slow, and takes up space compared to a tree stalk shifter. GM make the right choice. I bet Ford moves away from it in the next version. 3) I only 1-peddle drive. It takes a day to get used to it, but once you get it you never go back. It's just too convenient and with an EV you want to maximize regen braking. The ER has 580hp and will do 0-60 in 3.8. I blow the doors off "performance" ICE cars. Nothing is as humbling as getting passed by a truck pulling 10k lbs of hay uphill! :)
The first and biggest problem as you mentioned at the start of the video is it looks almost exactly as your 2011 firs pickup that you had part next to the lighting . It really needs to be differnt in design and aerodynamic. It is loosing allot of range and efficiency trying to look like existing ford trucks . Its basically a brick of a ev . Firs missed a opportunity for design change and taking a new path witt the lightning . The silverado ev did make a deaign change to do a better job with aero and it still has a sharp design . I woujd say a better looking truck over the lighting. I understand why they went thus direction to have familiarity to get customers to try it out but they maybe trapped in a inefficient ev truck loosing range and needing a larger battery pack
We can agree to disagree on style. I love that it looks familiar. The coefficient of drag would be so minimal anyways, in my opinion, that you may only be impeding the drag by a fraction of a percent.
As soon as Cybertruck owners add a roof rack or lots of stuff in the bed, it will also loose efficiency and range due to aero drag. Smaller battery packs benefit the manufacturer, using less and making it easier to mass produce. They don't benefit the truck owner. (Except by reducing the purchase price.) Considering that trucks are made to move stuff, I agree with making it a brick and compensating with extra battery. Good on Chevrolet for running with this and having a much bigger battery than the Cybertruck. And Tesla's option to add an extra battery in the bed? Not for me or anyone who needs all the bed space for bulky things.
Ford beat chevy to the market by 2.5 years. And did a good job using the old frame. The second gen f150 will have more room between the frame rails for more batteries. Game changing silent towing torque. Go to the 17:40 mark and watch a Rivian out accelerate a 5.7 hemi while the Rivian is towing 10,000 lbs. ua-cam.com/video/Zce-wC__kkU/v-deo.htmlsi=4dTeJTTAy6f5FVOv
The 2024 Ford F-150 has a curb weight ranging from 4,021 lbs to 5,757 lbs, depending on the trim. On the other hand, the Ford F-150 Lightning, being an electric vehicle, is significantly heavier, with a curb weight ranging from 6,015 lbs to 6,893 lbs. So, the Ford Lightning weighs more than the 2024 F-150.
@@OldeCarrGuy I totally get that and I think it's pretty ugly myself. Also can't understand why so many people are waiting in line to buy it. But the fact is it's selling and selling well.
@@russnotdisclosed7249With Teslas, reliability, constant over-the-air updates improving vehicle functions and screen, no recalls and no dealer visits on most vehicles, Superchargers, great voice control to operate all functions needed while driving with one button on the steering wheel, best prices, safest production vehicles on Earth in crash test ratings due to advanced construction, constant improvements in quality, features, ride, handling, noise, fit, finish, vibration and harshness....and mobile service for minor issues if they occur. Tesla sold 1.8 million EVs in 2023. That's far more than twice as many EVs as Ford sold in gas F-150s.
fun video to watch. Always a kick to watch a virgin EV'er lay into the go pedal the first time. Also, after a day or two of one pedal driving, you'll be hooked on that as well. Saw a youTuber with a F150 Lightening compare how efficient his truck was compared to his wife's Model Y. He drove around 1500/mi/month for $150 charging cost. She drive 1200 miles a month at the cost of $33 month. They both charged at home. I commuted 800 miles a month in a Model 3 and charged at work where I was paying $0.25 kw/h for a total of $45- $48 month. If I had been able to charge at home for $0.08 kw/h... those 800 would have cost me $14-$15 month to commute. Plus.. free express lane 😀
Have you driven a Cybertruck ? Don't knock things until you have personal experience. The large shifter is stupid and takes up too much space. Put it on the column.
@@davidws5439 I think the knock is not on the mechanics of the Cyber truck, Tesla makes a great product and excellent software. The comment was more about the look of the truck. The Cyber truck is very different and the has it appeal and its set backs as well. Early adopters are risk takers, the main stream buyer will look for familiarity of past models. This is where the Lightning hits it out of the park. Loads of add ons that can be bought because there are loads of aftermarket options for decent prices.
@michaelclark9453 Ford should not have killed the new Ford F-150 EV that was to come out in 2025. Also, i think more evs will sell better o ce they have the NACS connector.
@@davidws5439 they didn’t kill it. It’s just been pushed back to 2027. They don’t want to start production of the next generation until they feel like they can do it profitably. a lot of it comes down to getting their battery manufacturing up and running, the new blue oval city plant up and doing better with their supply chain costs.
You may be right about EV's dominating the industry, but I will still be driving my old square body trucks and Crown Vic's in 30 years as long as there's still gas available.
Yeah man of course. I’ve run a lawn service since 2000 and kinda feel bad about all the exhaust I put in the air especially two stroke. It gets all over me probably gonna shorten my life. I really like lucid stuff and of course ford my biggest holding. Drive a ram 2500 2022 pos. Has a ford 250 was the better truck being 22 years older lol.
Example for EV haters and EV .... curious! I have an electric fan in a spare room, it's been running 24/7 for two years on high non stop. It's not hot or in anyway damaged. Try running any fossil fuel engine for two years non stop... can not be done. Also electric motors don't require ramping up rpms to gain speed.. they go full bore period.. no hesitation.. 0 to 100 just like that...EVs can beat a super car no problem...
And that thing of always listening to the tranny to see if theres any new hesitations or whatever....Nope! Not this one! It is seriously amazingly smooth, aggressive power!
man, I disdain the extended cabs on trucks. If you're going to get one like that, might as well just get an SUV because you didn't need a truck in the first place.
Consider this, when range doubles and battery pack weight drops - gas vehicles won't be able to compete. No spark plugs, no oil / oil filter, no radiator, no exhaust, no belts, no hoses, no ignition coils, no timing belt/chain, no transmission / trans fluid, no u-joints, no radiator / radiator fluid, brakes never wear out due to regen, no catalytic converter, no fuel pump, no clutch / torque converter, no water pump / thermostat, no O2 sensors, no air filter, no fuel tank. The vehicle will be a battery standby for your home, and you'll almost never refuel bc of at home charging. If you run out of charge on the road, you'll be able to charge from another EV. Some EVs already can do this (CyberTruck, F150's, Lucid), all Tesla's will have this feature by 2025. I bought a Tesla M3 2023 and it says it can go 272 mi, but in reality it's more like 220 to 250. The new 2024's can go 380 miles, real world tested. It's coming.
Funny how you say that ev trucks shouldn't look like Cybertrux while the Cybertrux is selling more than the Lightning, R1T, Silverodo, and Hummer combined
I personally have no interest in owning an EV, between my love of car and my lifestyle there's too many drawbacks. With that being said it does seem as tho the technology has reached a point that I can for applications and some car buyers it would be a decent option.
Most of your concerns are addressed in the Flash model. Which currently has up $18k is discounts. I priced it out for $65k Canadian. Also the range is just guessing based on the trailer setup. If the last trailer was 9000lbs it based the range on that. Best to monitor your battery percentage. Take the range with a grain of salt.
Instead of making the new smartphones look like an old last century brick phone, flip phone or Blackberry, they made them as Samsung and iPhone smartphones. They also made those new smartphones without a bunch of buttons, switches and knobs. Adults are especially slow in learning new tasks and how to continue personal growth. Adults should learn from smart children. It's not too hard, U can do it. Really. Hopefully things that look completely new and different don't frighten and repulse U too badly. U'll survive.
Your comments about keeping things normal are dead on. We test drove a Model Y when they had the 0.99% financing incentive and I hated it because it was not at all normal compared to every car I've ever driven since I got my license in the 80s. The side mirror controls are in the center screen, how can that possibly be legal? I had to pull off the road to adjust them. Has no speedometer right in front of the driver, you have to look at the center screen. They could mitigate that complaint with a heads up display I suppose, but it doesn't have one. Plus it rode badly and rattles were coming from the cargo area, on a brand new car with 1100 miles on it. Combine this with no Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and we were out. We went and drove the Mach-E and liked it, ended up buying it, the extremely large incentives didn't hurt. It's my wife's daily, we still have my older Navigator as our ICE vehicle, but yeah, I never get tired of the gonzo acceleration of the Mach-E. We have the Premium AWD and it's not the fastest one, but it's plenty fast, saw one magazine article with our exact config and they did 0-60mph in 4.8. It would need stickier tires if it was any faster than it was, I'm at the limit of traction on a hard launch with the stock Michelin all season tires.. Anyway good review - subscribed!
i love my Lightning and will never buy another ICE vehicle. They are stupid. On that older F150, it has over 20K moving parts and that Lightning has like 40 moving parts. Oh, On my Lariat trim has an electric tail gate, Heated wheel and heated and cooled seats that are fully electric. Great stereo and because it has no solid rear axle so it rides like a Cadillac. And also, large battery, 320 mile range.
Not a bad rig I suppose. Unfortunately, the energy still has to come from somewhere. In my opinion, as far as carbon footprint is concerned, electric vehicles are not any better than gasoline powered ones. You can't just dig cobalt out of your back yard and our Canadian climate may play a role as far as efficiency is concerned. I'm not sold on it yet.
Welll....there are alot of scientific facts/studies about the footprint and theres been alot of drillin in the backyard thats for sure. The Canadian climate is definitely something to look into
Although bigger batteries is short term gain, i believe the infrastructure is the biggest issue for future EV owners! There are gas stations on every corner practically, but "good/fast" charging stations are not! At least not here in Canada!
@@mikeyytube00 I agree with the Tesla statement, but not all EVs are Tesla's. For example, I live in a community with approximately 5-7000 people and there is only 1 non-Tesla charging station in town and zero Tesla chargers.
They are definitely not the future, Try and drive across Canada and let me know how long it takes. For that matter any long trip. Most electric chargers are being powered by diesel generators.
It's bullshit that the chargers are run by generators. And I'd bet you could get across Canada in about the same amount of time.... but honestly, how often do you driver across Canada?
@@StevelsCamping I did reply, not sure where it went... There are plenty of chargers all across the country, especially on the Trans-Canada highway. Besides, maybe basing which vehicle to purchase on something you've done twice in your entire life isn't the brightest move.

You said it! Love the power!
5 years ago I said if manufacturers want folks to buy more EVs, they need 3 things:
1. Equal or lesser purchase price
2. Equal or greater range on top up
3. Not to look ugly or different
These lightning’s have hit all three, yet still not selling as well as the Dumpster truck!
Another issue is the battery has a 8 year warranty if you need to replace it you could be looking at $25,000
I will never forget my first launch in a EV. Kind regards from a redneck EV owner.
Thank you for your average guy honest review! I love my Lightning & its cool to see others feel the same. Enjoy good sir!
You nailed it, the grin is contagious!
Thanks, that’s good info!
I wouldn't go that far!
@@OldeCarrGuy …I dunno.
Maybe a crate battery pack in the future! 🤣
I own a lariat extended range in upstate ny and do my best to keep on top of all information related to Evs in general. I briefly owned a plug in hybrid, but hated the tech involved
I’ve used my truck to power my house when we lost power for a few days this summer during a heat wave, which was extremely useful (used my bed power outlets; lariat has a power tailgate)
I really enjoyed this review- you gave it a fair shot and frankly I laughed really hard at the acceleration portion
I haven’t towed anything with my truck yet (I don’t really know if I’ll have any need to tbh) but found that portion of the video really interesting
Thanks for making this! Y’all seem like great people
Thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate it!
That manual open-close tailgate is in the XLT and Pro trims, but my Lariat trim version has powered open and close for the tailgate.
Thank you!
You’re making me want to get rid of my gas truck! Kinda!
Good to know!
Super entertaining! Picking up a f350 with a HO 6.7 next week , can’t wait to experience that kind of power.
That's going to be awesome!
That sounds like a fun night!
@OldeCarrGuy so much fun every day 😎
I have a 2023 F150 Lariat. It has a powered tailgate, and the recline is electric. I am pleased with your review, I also hate the Cybertruck.
Thanks! Much appreciated!
In Ok pso is 2.5cents per kw 11 pm to 6 am . Fillups cost me less than 3 bucks 0-100 and I easily go 260 miles at full speed . That sold me . And the gas version was over 10k more for my lariat . Sold!
That’s an amazing price to charge!
“My feet were off the floor!”
I have solar panels and with a few more kWhs of battery storage, I’ll be functionally off grid. I need an affordable, reliable, and very basic work truck. I’d love a very basic, Ranger sized, pickup for my business.
EV work truck that is!
@@OldeCarrGuy I'll bet that 2022 sold for more than MSRP given the insane time period. That's a big hit to take.

I went from a 2015 5.0 f-150 to a lightning a year ago. Don’t think I would ever go back
I am glad they didn't go full nutty with the Lighting, body repairs are going to be more sensible, no "self presenting" door handles and I hear the ride is tough to beat.
I am glad they toned down the jewelry (ie rear light bar) and I suspect it wouldn't be to hard to swap the front grill for something from a gasser.
Be interesting to see someone do a grille swap!
@@OldeCarrGuy I think it would expose the contents in the Frunk to the elements. That would be the downside. Maybe they could make a closed grille that looks like it’s open when standing from a distance

The Platinum Edition of the Lightning has a few of those features that are missing in the XLT trim level starting at around $85k
For anyone considering a lightning, i recommend the extended range. It's even faster, has more range and will probably have better resale. I got my 23 XLT ER leftover sticker at 73k down to 53k. Happy hunting.
Good tip!
I'm leasing a 2023 Lightning XLT and love that it's quiet and that I save $2500 a year in energy costs (notice I didn't say gas.costs). I'm 64 years old.. I guess I'm a hip baby boomer.
LOL Careful with that Hip!
@OldeCarrGuy Your right..My hip does act up from time to time.
Evs are great for a lot of things, I daily one and do long roadtrips, but long range towing is terrible still. A hybrid truck is probably the sweet spot for many right now. Like the F150 hybrid you can power equipment but have the gas engine for the range when towing.
Thanks for sharing!
I have a 2023 Ford Lightning Lariat ER and I think most of your complaints about the XLT interior is why Ford released the "Flash" version in 2024. I had a Tesla 3 and a RAM1500 prior to my Lightning. Just a quick retort:
1) Grill is all about aerodynamics to solve drag to extend range.
That's all great info Scott. Thanks for sharing!
I agree about the one pedal driving. In around town driving, it extends my range by leaps and bounds and significantly reduces brake wear.

I have not driven a cybertruck. Maybe one day!

I have noticed that people are judging EVs by features that are not exclusively EV, that are or can be on ice vehicles
“Wicked!” … well done :-)
Thanks!
Good point!
Everyone has their preference!
Great contractor truck...charge it overnight, put the tools in the frunk, materials and other tools in the back.
Makes sense!
I get what you're saying!

No, but he did build it to look like a horses buggy! Smart feller!
I personally have no interest in owning an EV, between my love of car and my lifestyle there's too many drawbacks. With that being said it does seem as tho the technology has reached a point that I can for applications and some car buyers it would be a decent option.
I would agree with you on both parts.

Great truck. Shit towing especially when cold. Ford needs to go the Chevy route and double up that battery size.
Although bigger batteries is short term gain, i believe the infrastructure is the biggest issue for future EV owners! There are gas stations on every corner practically, but "good/fast" charging stations are not! At least not here in Canada!
