This whole album felt like silent hill . I loved it. I feel like this is more of an art piece than an album. U have to experience it and truly immerse yourself in it.
You actually explained the feeling that Perverts gave me so well. I was on edge, stressed, was trying to control my breathing but it always felt.. not enough. It was an amazing experience listening to this in the dark. Can see however how this album could lose some of the fans, since it's nothing like Preacher's Daughter, and especially to some of her more pop songs, but I feel like everybody should experience this. It's happening to everybody.
Ever since this album came out it’s been on constant repeat for me. I keep reading that art comforts the disturbed and disturbs the comforted. Some people are so scared by the sounds in this album but it fills and soothes my soul in a way no other album has. 10/10.
my only comment on this project is wow. like, us as people are so privileged to see into her mind this way. the way her mind works is so interesting, and im really happy to be able to be around when she is
3:29 comforting?!?! I was sitting in my living room last night listening on headphones and I was so uncomfy 😂 chills the entire time, like being blindfolded in a horror film
SAME! I listened with headphones while lying in my bed in the total darkness. Don't get me wrong-it was an absolutely transcendental experience, but it genuinely got so unsettling at times that I had to hide under my blanket. 🥲
to be honest I absolutely loved this project 😭I was exited to see a project outside the Ethel Cain series and she absolutely delivered I find it insane how she can build this feeling of dread while not using many lyrics but having these very intricate and detailed instrumentals that somehow feel really physically heavy and draining at times and pulling it off so well it’s impressive ! this feels like a piece of art to me and I think it’s beautiful but also scared me 😭I won’t be going and listening every day ofc but I think it’s fantastic and a very thought out project even if it’s not everyone’s cup of tea It’s happening to everybody 🖤
oh my GODDDDD SHE NEEDS A HORROR MOVIE NOW WTFFF I LOVE HER MUSIC SO MUCH! the way she stirs so much emotion and tension is so masterfully well done and she will continue to remain my favorite artist! ♥️
@ FOR SURE!!! omg and what if (since Ethel’s mom i believe is this album with the lore) what if her mom kept seeing Ethel after death?!? and it was a thriller thatd be so sick
@marshmarloweasmr this does not include any connections to preachers daughter, the album about Ethels mom will be called Preachers wife I believe, but this album is outside of that universe!
if you like amber waves, you will LOVE the artist Grouper. she’s one of hayden’s biggest inspirations, and her music sounds very similar to that song. i strongly recommend her albums Dragging a Dead Deer and Shade
the intro from the title song its actually a christian song "nearer my god to thee" and i think it was a great start to an album with such a powerful vibe about religion and depravation and god and sin and it just goes so so well with the synthetic instruments. i do miss more lyrics in her songs but the album itself its some sort of experiment and it just brings a lot of feelings and sensations and thoughts, i think she did so well on this but ofc ill still miss more lyricism
ohhh, thank you! I need to check the song out, cause I love the violin version in Titanic! Agree with you too, I'm such a lyrical person, so while I miss those, I still love this for what it is and what she created. Legit obsessed with pulldrone omg
IT’S HAPPENING TO EVERYBODY. this project floored me it is so amazing even with a lot fewer lyrics than preachers daughter. there is almost nothing to describe my first listen of this album. one of the most haunting listens ever and i absolutely loved it. televangelism was my favorite on preachers daughter which was fully acoustic so i didnt mind the more ambient nature of this project. and amber waves is just one of the best pieces of music i have ever heard like
If this gets her fans to listen to stuff like The Body imma lose it lmao Definetly happy she didn't go the easy way and didn't just repeat the sound of Preacher's Daughter.
@ptrckhnghn7676 it's not a direct comparison, but it's definetly one of the milestones once you go down the ambient/drone/harsh noise road of elements that are all over Perverts. So not saying they sound similar, but The Body is a more extreme version of the sounds and themes found here.
Okay I know this project album is NOT everyone’s cup of tea and that’s okay because it’s mine LMAO. On a real note, this album really reached some part of my mind. Especially that guitar part in Punish. S h i v e r s. Someone said in the comments that Ethel should do soundtrack music for films/shows and I AGREE. The album being dedicated to the Divine Theater that she explained in one of her videos in her UA-cam channel made me TEAR UP because we are listening and experiencing in a way by how it’s referenced.
Christian from instagram lol. I liked this project a lot in its own way. For me I think about all of the sounds we mask our own thoughts with throughout the day to distract us. And it feel like this album peers through the mask into the undercurrent of the dark thoughts we don’t address within ourselves. I know that sounds so extra lol it’s just what the album made me think of personally. Also the swaying is so real I felt like I was on a boat or plane the entire time 😂
after seeing nosferatu, housofpsychoticwomn takes another layer, i feel like it's a toxic love, a love that takes everything, that isn't kind, that isn't trusting; and it circles back to amber waves, it's not loving another person, it's loving something darker, deeper, that is so bad for you. it's also the same voice as isaiah in preacher's daughter, don't know if she just loves distorting voices like that or if it's on purpose, to call back on him and his fucked up way of "loving". anyway. really cool album, it was hard so digest, but so interesting!
what i got from the lyrics of this album and the concepts behind it is the concept of restriction and deprivation as it correlates to reaching god and that is literal. especially considering haydens background and the religious and sexual shame shown in her other works. this is a very common concept and pretty much the overarching theme in christian religion. to deprive yourself of pleasure is to come closer to god. in reference to her writing “the consequence of audience” she speaks about the cycle of deprivation and giving in to pleasure. the thought is that you can either exist inside this cycle, constantly crawling up from pleasure upwards to god and then almost seeing it and then getting dragged back to manhood. or, you can exist outside of it ignoring it entirely. to me, themes of dysfunctional self love, not being able to masturbate without guilt, and sex being an act you can only perform for someone else, are very present. as well as again the fear of vulnerability and love as you try to claw your way back up to godhood. shame cycles exist almost ubiquitously in southern christianity, and I have literally seen with my own eyes how this cycle kills people. but even outside of religion, this really is happening to every-body. everyone has fetishes they are ashamed of, pleasures they secretly indulge in. hiding or ignoring them in order to reach some concept of normalcy. but your humanity, your soul, your curiosity always pulls you back down. that’s what i got from it anyway.
The album is inspired by simulacra and simulations. Many of the lyrics allude to the book’s philosophy in a sense of trying to reach a type of “heaven” through vices(sedative addiction, m*st*rb*tion, etc) instead of reaching “heaven” in the right way-if you can even reach any type of “heaven”
yes exactly, this makes more of a sense or understanding the concept thank you. makes sense with the context of her talking about doing these sort of things before, such as recently getting off to the sight of brutalist architecture and such and viewing them as temples and stuff…. thanks for the insight and furthrr understanding
philosophy kinda reminds me of Hedonism but i guess it really is more akin to Onanism or Perversion lol, always reaching for something but knowing that what you are doing is “wrong” or forbidden and that you may be forsaken but you dont care, its your way of reaching for the divine and god, def a personal work
While it's not something I'd listen in full constantly (not a fan of ambient music) it's definitely going into my sleep and rain playlists. The album was so calming to me lol. It started raining when i was listening to it and the thunderstorm was so in sync with the songs i thought the thunders were from the songs. I also NEED Ethel to keep doing those distorted synths and strings, they're perfect.
I think Punish has very heavy but real lyrics. The vision of someone sick who doesn't have the freedom to heal but when they give in to their impulses, they become a reason for hatred (with reason). I think that ped0s who indulge in bad acts should be punished. But the society should give a chance to those who knows that something is wrong with them and want to free themselves psychologically from this distorted view of love (Not to mention that some people who are 4bus3rs have already been 4bus3d in the past). We have the mindset of “DEATH TO ALL” when it comes to pedophilia which I agree to the ones who act on it and hurt children, but for the ones that don’t act on impulse and live with that shame because there is no room for them to get help in this society needs to be talked about. We can’t sweep it under the rug, this causes more kids to be harmed and people ending their lives because they feel there are no resources for them to rehabilitate.
I’d have to say onanist and pulldrone are my main choices as they just take you somewhere, you’re looking at moments exposed to you in a different light. It’s eerie but it’s real.
I love love LOVE atmospheric tracks on a concept album however I'm only gonna add songs with vocals to a playlist. Love this album as a whole but individually, I will only stream a few tracks regularly. Thats ok though. Great piece genrally and that's why she'll always be Mothercain. ♡ིྀ
Punish gave me the idea that this album was going to be parallel to Preacher's Daughter but a different story. I wasn't expecting to be in my room at midnight terrified 😭Perverts for me will be a rare but good listen. I can imagine on the right day it would be comforting.
I love this project so much, I can't even explain it. It's so comforting to me. Been playing it on loop, especially at night, I turn off the lights, light up a candle and blast this on full volume LOL😩 Ethel gave us another masterpiece! ✨
I absolutely loved this masterpiece. I don’t wanna sound like I’m being dramatic, but listening to the whole album actually made me physically sick. it made my stomach turn. Music has never had such an effect on me before. What an artist she is🤍
If You like dark music like this with elements of industrial electronica, then i highly recommend you the album "WASTEISOLATION" by Black Dresses. I would love to see someone finally react to this masterpiece
Love your reactions. You also NEED to react to "Some People Have Real Problems" album by Sia. This album is masterpiece, and her best album. This album is unique
This one is not for the regular pop listeners. For those looking for texture and soundscapes in music is just perfect, sounds very dark and yet has a warmth to it, sometimes sounds like it's bleeding, if that makes sense. So far, I'm loving it ♥
It sounds to me like the sound in Pulldrone may be a herdigerdi a late medieval early modern instrument? The fact she can create a modern sound scape using a hundred year old instrustument, if thats what it is, is stunning
she's like carolne pólacheck... in the sense that they had that one song that was a bop and the rest of their music is "experimental-almost there songs"
do i wanna listen to most of these tracks again.. well no KAJSKS but do have a lot of respect and amber waves is one of the most beautiful pieces of music i've ever heard
He muffled voice is im guessing from the perspective of the character in preachers daughter who her character was in love with but had this twisted demonic nature built up around him. Like he was the devil.
I love Preacher's Daughter, but I'm not feeling this album at all. Its just like spooky background music. No real melodies or anything memorable. Hopefully her next album is better.
I heard the premise of the album was about a pedophile murderer or something who felt guilty? She’s almost unlistenable but so brilliant. Definitely not buying this one it’s too dark lol
the overall album theme is the actual definition of being perverted, which is to “distort or corrupt the original course, meaning, or state of something”. the song punish is what you’re referring to, she sings in the perspective of a pedophile who was shot by the child’s father, and now stimulates the bullet wound to “punish” himself
Punish is about a pervert that abuses from a child, and it's later killed by the child's father, so now the pervert is in an exile, in which he's forced (I think) to cut the bullet's wound as a punish. At the end of the song, Ethel constantly repeats "I am punished by love" because pedophiles often excuse themselves by saying "It's not a disorder, it's love"
Hey! Great video and channel! We'd love to see you do an album review of our very own Carter Brady's no-skip modern rock record 'Shopping Cart'. All the best and hoping to hear from you!
the biggest take away from this albums is someone needs to get her to score a film or a video game IMMEDIATELY
1000000%
I believe she has talked about wanting to do an Ethel Cain/Preacher's Daughter movie. I think there's a book in the works too
@jmiire books and movies for Preachers Daughter, Perverts and the next album, the last of the trilogy.
she really likes Outlast and RE7 and i can defintely see this soundtrack in those games especially Etienne
Perverts when the clock like noise and drone starts reminds me of Aka Manto I believe
You trying to move and bop along to it is killing me😭
Hahahaha stoppppp 😭😭😭
This whole album felt like silent hill . I loved it.
I feel like this is more of an art piece than an album. U have to experience it and truly immerse yourself in it.

I agree. Tho albums are art pieces

I think the ‘fans’ she may lose aren’t real ones and ones she probably wants to lose 😂
Ever since this album came out it’s been on constant repeat for me. I keep reading that art comforts the disturbed and disturbs the comforted. Some people are so scared by the sounds in this album but it fills and soothes my soul in a way no other album has. 10/10.

@bennshouts fully and truly an incredible mind. I'd give anything to sit with her and just hear her thoughts behind each song.

Love Preachers Daughter, but Perverts is just not for me
I love Preacher's Daughter, but I'm not feeling this album at all. Its just like spooky background music. No real melodies or anything memorable. Hopefully her next album is better.
I heard the premise of the album was about a pedophile murderer or something who felt guilty? She’s almost unlistenable but so brilliant. Definitely not buying this one it’s too dark lol
I think that's punish? Maybe haha
the overall album theme is the actual definition of being perverted, which is to “distort or corrupt the original course, meaning, or state of something”. the song punish is what you’re referring to, she sings in the perspective of a pedophile who was shot by the child’s father, and now stimulates the bullet wound to “punish” himself
That's only Punish. Every song deals with some kind of perversion.
The albums is about perverts (pedophiles, vacillators, addicts, onnanists, etc.)
this is not project real Ethel Cain this is embient album second face ❤
Weirdest album of the year for sure
Lmao already
of course 🖤
Hey! Great video and channel! We'd love to see you do an album review of our very own Carter Brady's no-skip modern rock record 'Shopping Cart'. All the best and hoping to hear from you!
So disappointed I know UA-camrs will say anything for views but I wanted to hear more of her beautiful voice like in punish
So because you didn’t like it, no one else does/can? Righto.
@@bennshouts Er, the poster didn't say that. I'm also disappointed in the album because it's not song-based.
@@thecroft6070 ambient songs are still songs
@@thecroft6070they are all songs?
I was really sad😭😭 im very disappointed we didn't get any real songs cause i was so looking forward to it😔
They're all real songs though? x
@@bennshouts I love this album, but I’m pretty sure u know what Lucy means, even tho the tracks on this album are technically “real songs”
I mean she did market this as an ambient album, but there's always the next project which could be the pd b sides
real songs???
