Burry truly was awesome in this! One thing I hope for is to see Imri and Burry in a chapter in any book. The empathic duo! I feel like the Under-Dweller corrupted the Nameless into what they are. Perhaps they were Protector eggs once...

Love the review as always! Really agree with it starting slow, but taking off at the half way point. Was also very sad about the violence against animals. Seems like the most evil thing I’ve seen in Star Wars somehow

SPOILERS: Hey Lauren! I agree with you 100% on your critique of this book. I think the book was slow to start because Tessa had the hard job of recapping the overarching story for regular readers, giving an overview for new readers, all while progressing the story. The two points of violence you mentioned: While I didn't like either, I thought the first one was useful to remind us of how ruthless a being Marchion Ro is. The second violent act, yes, that went too far. I still think Star Wars should follow the basic fundamentals George Lucas created, and this second violent act definitely did not align for the Star Wars universe. The introduction of the blight was a bit much for me too. In fact, just the re-introduction of the Drengir made my eyes roll (even though I knew it was coming). I also agree with your thoughts on Marchion Ro, although by the end of the book his arc felt on track again. While my comments about Phase 3 so far have been very critical, I will say Temptation of the Force felt like the return of a comfy sweater and it is the first adult novel I have thoroughly enjoyed since Phase 1. I'm honestly just looking forward to things wrapping up. I am a completionist with High Republic content, and three years of reading everything is just becoming exhausting to me. I hope the story continues, but maybe one novel a year plus a few comics.

yes I totally get what you mean!! And totally agree about there being some "rules" that George originally set out, especially with violence, that I would like to see followed. I hope we get to see a more complete wrap up of the drengir this time, I was more willing to revisit them than I was to do this new thing with the blight lol!! But I'm just happy that we made some big progress in other areas so I am staying hopeful. Comparing this book to a comfy sweater is so spot on though!! -Lauren

@@CantinaCast YES! Progress and forward momentum is VERY important at this stage of the story! Not talking comics, but is the next book Tempest Breaker??? But that is December, there has to be something before that right?

I don’t think you mentioned it, and if you did, I’m sorry. But another critical part of the book was Burryaga finding out that the blight are homesick. Maybe if promises can be made to get them back to their home, that could turn this blight problem all the way around.

I just keep thinking about this ghost thing, and I think I'm the only one who notices something weird with it. 🤣
I don't think the old ghost is Marda. Eye of the Storm (issue #1) and the HR Character Encyclopedia say Shalla Ro, Marchion's grandma, is the daughter of the founder of the Nihil, and Eye of Darkness (Chp 17) says Marda is the founder, so Marda should be his great grandma, not his great great grandma.
There's some sneaky writing going on with this ghost character. When Marchion goes in the vault under his throne on the Gaze (TotF Chp 9), he talks about his grandma and his great great grandma (2 greats), but doesn't say anything about his great grandma (Marda). The ghost is also never named, and the name "Marda" is not in the book at all.
And how about how she sometimes showed up with blood coming out of her mouth? Evereni blood? One time, on chp 57, the old one shows up wearing the Path of the Open Hand’s blue robes and waves on her forehead (the Herald wore the blue robes as well as some others). Doesn't sound like something the Marda we know would do in her old age. It's read in the old woman voice in the audio book. Most of the ghost appearances are. I think the young one only appears like 2 or 3 times and they let you know or tell you she's wearing something Marda wore, like the jumpsuit from Tales of Light and Life.

those are good points!! i hadn't considered that but i see what you mean about some different info from what we knew to be what Marda was actually like in real life... either way, the reveal about how she relates to the blight and what exactly happened there is going to be crazy 😬 -Lauren

@@CantinaCast I figure it must have something to do with the Nameless or maybe just the eggs. That's probably why the Underdweller wanted Marda and Bokana to take the eggs. But there's no Blight on Dalna so far, and the only Nameless alive after POV is the Leveler, so who knows. We need more Marda stories!
