"Lets Relate" absolutely S L A P S. I actually haven't listened to Of Montreal in years. I listened a lot in high school, then stopped in 2014ish and haven't picked them back up until now. I am sad that I missed the release of this album, but I am happy I am listening to it now :D
As usual, after the second listen of a totally new sound from yet another album, I've come to adore this album already. You'd think after 14 albums, a band (well, ... A Kevin) would grow stale. He always keeps it fresh. Hoping for 14 more.
absolutely amazed by this album, im kind of sad i wasnt there for the release but im happy that i discovered them this year. definetely a woke group by its time, it seems like they were ahead of its time, just compliments and joy to give, congrats polyvinyl records for having the honor to record for them
So I just got introduced to this band by my new roommates. Holy shit!!! I'm in love with this band. Although my mistake was listening to "The Past is a Grotesque Animal" on 4 tabs for the first time lol. Also Kevin is super gorgeous 😳
It's as if Kevin took influences from his old vocals and acoustic styles and upgraded them with new unique use of effects vocoder and synth. You can tell Kevin was really feeling this in the studio. :)
Its different for girls will always hit the hardest for me. The lyrics and beat are just amazing. It basically perfectly describes what I go through and have had a shit ton of problems getting past in my life. The fact that a non-female got the lyrics so accurate is amazing
thanks Kevin! I feel as if I'm sparring with the void trying to show you appreciation, love, or connection through this virtual medium in which i am a voiceless square photo from my own past [so unimaginable to yourself!} inspiration
Been waiting for this album and not disappointed, reminds me of false preist and skeletal lamping meshed. Though i kinda wish the songs would flow with each other like in past albums.
This is taking a while to grow on me, but that's usually the case. I miss the sound of Lousy and I think Aureate Gloom was a glorious expansion on that sound. I'm sure I just need to re-calibrate to this record and I look forward to doing so!
The summer before highschool until I met the band that frozen night in which we waited 3 hours in the cold confirmed the stage presence breakdown, emotionally. Oh, poop. I love everything from all the early steps. Psychedlia goddess bless all
***** Chill out man. No one is saying oM is derivative of Crystal Castles, just that it sounds reminiscent of them, which is notable as this is the first oM song that sounds like this.
Remarkable. Remarkable lyrics. Remarkable performers. Remarkable songwriters. Remarkable artists. Remarkable humans. This group is one of the brightest most brilliant team of intelligence ever collectively gathered into one group of talented musicians. They are remarkable. They're even remarkable live because they're authentic through and through.
@@AliceYobby I realize that. And kind of passed through my 'of Montreal' phase with them helping to affirm things I felt 'alone' with or to verbalize my thoughts. Still think the lyrics are stupendous.
My happiness and overall well-being increases every time I listen to this album. I listened to it on LSD, and it was like a mental fireworks show. I want to have romantic sex to a sport and a pastime. #grateful
It's interesting that every disco-influenced endeavor is hated by some fans, because that influence is part of what made Hissing Fauna one of their best albums ever. I'm glad to see them return to that influence somewhat here. Kevin seems to be at home in that, and makes some of his best songs. The Beatles-derived songs are always the most cliche and bland in my opinion, because look at the Beatles, they were literally a reduction of every other rock-and-roll, psychedelic, and hard-rock act out during that time, yet they get the credit. There were tech innovations in disco that we still use today in music, and people look down on disco so it's not appreciated. By the way, this album is great so far!!!
It's not that the Beatles were a reduction of every other band, it's that every other band was taking cues from the Beatles. They were that influential.
haters of this album be like "in my cracked kingdom, in my terror hive of brutal nostalgia, on some self-imposed house arrest of the mind that's useless, trying to numb the fear, the fear that deforms the negatives and makes all memories pathetic, so pathetic"
@@contexted unlike some people i don't see of montreal post-Hissing Fauna as a straight downward trajectory, i don't know how anyone could see it that way. Skeletal Lamping, Paralytic Stalks, Lousy With Sylvianbriar and Ur Fun are all favorites of mine. This album felt more like it was about taking the piss out of critics as the #1 priority and idgaf because i'm not one of those critics (different kind of critic)
Lol you cited two of my personal worst songs on the album (les chants and def pacts - for me les chants sounds like a leftover from aureate and def pacts has these two sections/moods that are not properly glued together, a bad version of Wintered Debts or som out of Paralytic Stalks) Interesting how opinions diverge

Tracks like Let's Relate, A Sport and a Pasttime, Trashed Exes show me what really good production sounds like
Kevin you've done it again. One of the greatest songwriters--period!

Polyvinyl Records is killing piracy.
I buy your fantastic retro cd editions ☺
Sorry Kevin Barnes this is a Masterpiece.
Let’s relate live is magical. David gets so into it! ❤
Of montreal never ever let's us down. With each one of their albums they manage to make something unique and familiar

you're my kind of listener. always give an album every chance.
I do dig this one.
I am even more glad about this that there is a song named les chants du maldoror
Wow another French poetry fanatic.. cool.
I fell in love with the first cute girl that I met who could appreciate Pierre Reverdy
Of Montreal rocks!!!
Enjoyed them live in Northampton, MA. Best party all year period.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this♥
Through 2 listens faves are Sport, Ambassador, Chaos and Chap. Sure I'll be adding more. oM is for of Montreal, oM is for of Music.
haters gonna hate? whether or not I enjoy myself is not the point of the creation. but, I love this

Always something different, and always something fucking brilliant!

Is Kevin the new Bowie?
My Fair Lady is too fucking good
Anybody else hear Syd Barrett in the beginning of Chaos Arpeggiating?
why no "gratuitous abysses" upload?
my opinion of this album has fluctuated to a dizzying degree, but i think i've settled on it being awesome.
it's right here ;) ua-cam.com/video/2N_YA6KjWkE/v-deo.html
waiting on the return of kay kay and his weathered underground, and instead I get this
slay slay slay
Thank you God!
great great album oh my god.
The last great one?
nice
First song reminds me of crystal castles
That was my first thought too
+Dustin Huntington damn right

lol i do what the hell i wanna do
This album isn't very good from the first spin. not that impressed so far. going to have to listen a few more times.
lmc if you got the cassette
Not sure how I feel
you will. you will see.
of montreal can do no wrong
O que é isso?

Holy guacamole, finally a delightful album in this era of blackened white kids and folk traditional bullshit
Second half > first half
Album is really bottom heavy.
Depends on your taste

More Georgie Fruit-type monologues I thought we were past this. Good album though, great except for the lyrics.
how do you feel now, 4 years later?

Totally better than the last one.
The first track reminds me of Kraftwerk.
Half of these views = me
lmaoooooooooooo is this fucking chilwave Wtf only on the first track so dont worry about replying to this
Not as good as Skeletal Lamping or Paralytic Stalks. Best songs are My Fair Lady, Def Pacts, Nursing Slopes, Trashed Exes, and Chap Pilot.
Losing Advata those two are my favourites too :-)
Personally thought "it's different for girls" was the best.
I guess im in the minority. Not a big fan of the change in sound on this record
Too bad crystal castles had mastered this sound years before Kevin stole their ideas.
5/10
No one gives a fuck what Fantano thinks
I was really taken off guard by how absolutely awful this is. What a twist, someone call Shyamalan
Oh man. I'm totally bummed. I'm so disappointed in this album. This is the first one in many years that I haven't liked. :-(
You took the words right out of my head.

No; mainly alcoholic 30 year olds.
I'm too into this.
