Great demoing of the matrix and controller! Which one do you use: Gigli 1.16 or 1.20 firmware? I have the same controller, but think of the bigger programmer or the alpes machines!
Nice! Just got my Matrix 1000 (with OS 1.16 upgrade) and love the sound. What OS do you have? Apparently the Stereoping works better with this (or the 1.2) upgrade.
Not sure if I should sell my matrix 6 and get a deepmind 12, or get this and the upgraded eprom and keep the matrix. Any thoughts? Does it wake up the matrix synths enough to make up for the original crappy editing?
Well there's ZERO editing on a m-1000 and I think the 6/6R is super hard to deal with so the answer is yes this opens up EVERYTHING. I think these machines sound much richer and fuller than a Deepmind and I'm not a Behringer hater....there's a lot to a Deepmind...and a lot of value but these are higher quality sound engines and have better character IMO. That being said I've never owned a Deepmind. I can't recommend these controllers enough though and the guy that makes them is really awesome to ask questions and support wise. They're built really well. Course, this is a sysex editor so it'll never be an actual circuit connected to the synth itself. The EPROM update is ridiculously simple to put in and less than $35 or so. The decision is yours!
@@cdwhiley Ah I didn't even realize the videos I was commenting on were both yours. hah! Thanks for the well thought out responses! I really appreciate it. I'm at least going to attempt the EPROM upgrade since it's so cheap. My matrix is acting up a bit in other ways though, so hopefully I can sort that out as well. (possibly a bad battery, which doesn't seem to complicated to replace) I think the deepmind looks like a really fun synth for exploring sounds on a budget. But maybe I can swing getting the matrix up to date with some hands on controls and get a rack mount deepmind in the future. I haven't had a working hardware synth for about a year since my cat peed on my jx3p. All the options out there these days is overwhelming! I can't believe how many awesome synths there are to choose from! Another question, I've never soldered a board together before. Would the Synth Controller be a good project to learn or do you think it's too complicated for a beginner?
@@RedneckSavant I sure wouldn't attempt it as a beginner. There's a lot of components and they are pretty small. I bought mine fully assembled for around $350. Yep, I've secondhand rack deepmind 12's fir less than 500...450 or so. Yep, hardware synths are experiencing a renaissance so there are an unbelievable number of options these days.

I have 1.16. It is optimized and allows for smoother filter sweeps and better overall processing of the sysex information streaming in.
Did you just plug and play or did you have to set something up? I'm having trouble getting my Matrix 6 to respond.
