Payton Thorne wants to play hero ball while Jarquez is the only hero in that backfield.
I’m going to keep saying it. Hugh is the right guy. He inherited a team with basically 2 missing recruiting classes. Has he made every right decision and play call? No, but no coach does. Kirby doesn’t, Sark doesn’t, Lanning doesn’t, etc. The difference is, when you have a complete roster, it masks coaching and execution mistakes. Auburn has no room for error…..yet. But we will. Look how many plays that he calls that would succeed if executed properly. Dropped passes, missed wide open receivers, interceptions, fumbles. Eliminating those things takes players with skill and experience. He is building a roster that will have that. We’ve got to be patient. War Eagle!

Freeze inherited a very talented team. Harsins recruiting classes ranked 18 and 21. Gus left incredible talent behind. The last few years, Auburn teams have been good enough to win the national championship. The problem is freeze and thorn.

It’s a breath of fresh air not to hear Coach speak anymore. I love the transparency, even if that ruffles some weak minded people out there. this guy is doing the best recruiting job I have seen in my lifetime and I’m 40 if he continues to do what he does, we will be competing for SEC championship sooner than later

Another big problem we've seen consistently is the 'star' cam Coleman LOAFING. Every game. Whether it's a route or blocking. Heck I've seen him on the opposite playside where he's supposed to be a decoy and he didn't do anything. Immediately turned and watched the play just standing there. Idk if Freeze is scared he will leave or what but you CANNOT allow that
Freeze went out and bought a bunch of Lambos, but no one that can drive stick. His really only major mistake was not getting a transfer QB. Yes, these receivers will probably transfer, so get ready for it.

Someone please explain to me how Diego Pavia single-handedly beat AU at home last year. Then went into the portal in December. At what point was Auburn like, "nah, we are good." I have zero doubt, we spend the $250k on this kid and he is not only Auburn's starter, but we are at least two wins better than we are right now.

Payton needs to just run the plays. He's not Peyton Manning. Payton is living on the "My Grandfather and Father were coaches" narrative and Hugh needs to take the making decisions out of his hands. He seems to do well when he does not have to think about it.

Peyton deserved to be called out, he is making rookie mistakes. Look, these players are men now and they have responsibilities just as the coach does. We would be a fool to get rid of Hugh Freeze. I mean Auburn was in shambles when he got there. No other coach not even Nick Saban could have got the recruits that Freeze has recreated to come to Auburn, it's unbelievable what kind of players he has brought in. Next year is going to be our year, Auburn will be a force to be reckoned with. It would be a disaster to bring in a whole new coaching staff, all of our recruits would begin to leave Auburn immediately and next year we wouldn't have any players that could even come close to the ones that we have now. Take a deep breath and think about next year and the rest of this year we should stand with them and root fouf.p to win as many more games this year as possible.

You are absolutely right and it is the main reason why our program will be in the gutter for about 10 years. It stems with Coach Harsin. I was not crazy about his hire, but when he got hired I was going to give him a chance. The problem is our influential alumni never gave him a chance, never gave him any support, and "ate its own" on him. I will tell you, I think he has been more successful than Freeze has been thus far. And Harsin's second year, I do not blame him at all. That was purely alumni. It is our influential alumni's fault. He could not hire any decent assistants because who would want to come work for Harsin when they know the alumni hate him, are working hard to get rid of him and will cause a disastrous year. Then they are out looking for a job coming off a horrible year. Yeah, I would not take the job either. Really, a great fit for Auburn coach wise would have been Stoops from Kentucky.

Freeze isn't wrong. He probably ought to keep it "in house" but he is dealing with a prima donna quarterback who won't hand the ball off when the coaches tell him to. Thorne is the problem and Freeze is to blame because he keeps running him out there. Otherwise, the team continues to show improvement and fought hard.
The reason we are not successful in running the ball when its obvious we are going to run the ball is that we dont give the damn ball to Hunter in those situations. Thorne is keeping the ball every damn time.

If your captains of the team constantly make poor decisions, every game will be up and down. Leader on offense (PT) isn’t any good. Leader on defense (KS) isn’t any good. Translation, bad season.

Athletes are being paid as professionals! Expectations are they should expect perform at a level to earn of expectancy. Peyton has continued to under perform. Freeze is doing a great job building Auburn. Let the man do what he does!

Hell, opposing coaches would be calling out our play before we snapped the ball. They knew exactly where the ball was going! Firing Gus was the best thing Auburn has done in 30yrs.
Firing freeze is not the right call. He told us to give him 3 years to have a good roster and I think we’re closer than what most people think. We’re a few simple mistakes and a threat at qb from winning a lot of these games. If this program isn’t good by end of 2026 I say we let him go. I know a lot of fans don’t have patience and frankly neither do I. Hugh just needs to focus on developing his players right now, cause there is a lot of freshman on that field that can be good

They arnt going to fire him guys, he’s still in good standing with people who make decisions at AU. He will get at the least one more year but will have to get 7 or 8 wins obviously.
People need to get over it, Thorne is the QB and the biggest problem on this team. Ofcourse he is going to be criticized the most by Hugh, who I think is just over it and really regretting not going to the portal. Im glad we don’t have to hear “We just gotta get butter” or “We had a good week of practice” which was Gus every week.
This season for us is over. I think Freeze should just bench Thorne for the rest of the season and go with Hank Brown for the rest of the season. Yes, Brown is a freshman and will make many mistakes, but Throne is going make the same mistakes anyway. Lets just get some experience under Brown's belt because I think he has a lot more potential than Thorne. Anyone else think this way?
I agree. We know what we have with thorn and it’s not great. If Brown can get some experience, it will be of benefit for the future. I don’t think he’ll be the starter in the future, but it would help.
Maybe that was a ploy to get the commitment of a top QB. If the starter is a RS Soph vs a 5th year Sr, you have less chance of winning the starting job next year. And now you have to keep that commitment.

The play calling needs to be evaluated
My only criticism on freeze is his play calling. Thorne can’t run this offense so just feed Hunter and the other backs and only use Thorne to throw screens and play action and running the ball occasionally. Doing the same thing and expecting different results is you know……..

Again, breaks my heart. I called the waaabulance, but they are not resresponding to Aubuurn pain any more. I said this many, many, many times, even tried to warn coach Freeze, do not take this job. It is at best, a step sideways. Get out now while you still have your sanity, and before they trump up some bogus "rumor" to get rid of you, that could cause you pain and affect your future. They don't deserve a good coach
Im no coach but im sick of RPO. Line up in some 12 or 22 and personnel and run the damn ball.
What puts AU over the edge is accountability. Handling any issues internally and letting the players hold other players accountable and that takes leadership. Leaders hold others accountable so those mistakes don’t happen again and again and doing that builds culture but blasting kids on TV whether it’s justified or not from the head coach is not the way. That was the way 20 years ago. Today’s kids respond differently to adversity and you will quickly lose respect among those players with that type of mentality.
I use to look forward to football season, but since 2020 its just miserable. Are there players say from the recruiting class of 2021 or 22,or 23 that can contribute, or is it just plug and play for auburn now.

As an AU alum, if Auburn fires Freeze during this season or just after it, I hope they never win another game. Why does Auburn have to be so terrible with handling situations as compared to other universities? We can't seem to get out of our own way.
Payton is making what several hundred grand he can take the criticism. They wanted to get paid they are not student athletes anymore they are pros
“Stepping up” is a culture issue which is a coaching issue… all for giving HF time but he’s gotta pull out some of these closer games and he has to work on putting his own ego aside and just RUN THE BALL
Everyone is focusing on the wrong things. Problem is HF made PT the captain, and he is one of the most lackluster leaders I have seen wear a C on their jersey at Auburn. They have no real on field offensive leader on this team and that is making a big difference. Should have made 27 the C. He is the best player on offense and it isn't close.

The reason Hunter isnt getting the ball as much is due to Thorne pulling the ball in the RPO and running himself or throwing. Its so damn frustrating watching a less caliber runner choose to run himself than handing it off to a higher-caliber runner. Payton Thorne is the definition of “knowing just enough to be dangerous.” He’s displayed enough knowledge and garnered enough trust to make terrible decisions on the fly and override the coach.

I mean no disrespect, but not turning the ball over through the air for 1 game doesn’t mean that issue has been fixed. Honestly pt didn’t throw a pick but he damn sure caused a crucial turnover to start the 4th Saturday. Did that play lose the game? No. But, had he ran the play that CHF called, we would’ve kept the ball for 3 more down at the very least if not finished only down 11-15. Which looks a lot better than 18.
