Lovely video. My GSD loves water too but he refuses to actually swim. He goes nuts when the hose pipe comes out and he loves splashing around in lakes and rivers. He gets ear infections only when he eats dog kibble for a lengthy time. He usually eats full raw but occasionally I do not have the funds I need and then add a good kibble to his raw. But the side effect is then problem ears. As soon as he is on full raw again the ear issues dissolve by themselves. I do however clean his ears regularly and use a home made coconut oil infused with garlic to maintain his ears.
Yep my girls both go crazy for the garden hose. That is super super interesting about Lycan's ears and raw food versus kibble. I feed the highest quality kibble I can afford plus as much raw as I can, but like you, for me it depends how much is in the bank. I would prefer to feed all raw but have to compromise if I want to eat as well. I wonder if switching to all raw would fix Mischa's ear problems altogether...?
I live in Colorado. In the high mountains. The yeast infection thing is worrying. What does it smell like? I cant get back to a vet easily so what should i smell for and what can I do to reduce infection if i need to go to town? I know an Aussie can tell me lol
Ha don't know if I've ever tried smelling for it. Usually my Mischa will start folding one ear back, scratching at it excessively, and shaking her head a lot. When it's bad it develops this black waxy substance inside the ear. It's best not to have it get that bad however because sometimes with all the muck it blocks the ear canal and cleaning fluid doesn't reach the infection. Then I'd highly recommend going to a vet. But it's just a bacterial infection usually caused by prolonged moisture in the ear. I don't know if there's a higher chance of infection in different bodies of water - - I guess that makes sense, but I'm not a vet.
Hello!
