I very much enjoyed Vadim's playing of two other nocturnes, op. 9 1-2. But here it is my feeling that at beginning it's a little loud, a little unrestrained, with excessive rubato or shall we say the kind of mannerisms that work so well in the other two nocturnes. This sensitive playing with tempo and asymmetries between left and right hand, two things that are essential to good Chopin playing, perhaps continue to be a bit excessive. Perhaps, Vadim, a slightly 'stricter' adherence to the score, if that even makes sense here, and a more restrained and muted 'nocturnal' approach, might work better, including offering more contrast to what should be a rather fiery restatement of the theme on p. 3 or so. Perhaps compare with Rubenstein's performance somewhere here.
