Would like to point out that under transfer of residence@ the time of entry first time in any North American port of clearance if jewellery is declared with customs, a receipt is issued duly stamped & a printout is given to the person emigrating(with photographs included ) of items , then if travelling again this can be carried to show again. No taxes are charged by customs. Better safe than sorry. Bank instruments like drafts/ bankers cheques also need to be declared to customs as they are legal documents.
