Kernel Popcorn, the Sarcastic Dreadsteed is a bad card as is. Unless you build a deck around filling your board with Dreadsteed using Baron Rivendare, Umbra, or KelThuzad. At which point you have a like tier 3 meme deck. End of turn activation kills that combo because you can't summon 4+ Dreadsteed from 1
Blizzard just need to script it so that if defile is cast. The dreadsteads only appear after the effect is done. They've done this before with other cards. Wild pyromancer and silver hand spells are an example. Just the opposite effect. You cast, they summon then pyromancer triggers. Just do it like this. Cast defile. After it kills, then resummon. Just like C'thun works with dreadstead. The dreadsteads only get summoned after he is done casting. If they go through with this nerf atleast nerf the mana of dreadstead to 2-3
Malohn but it DOES only appear after defile is cast. yhe problem is that of defile kills something. it REcasts itself. so it goes. "defile" "steed respawn" "defile" steed respawn" etc etc
Why? It's a bad card. No one plays it. The dreadsteed DOES appear after the effect is done. That's why it breaks the game, because the effect finishes, the deathrattles trigger, and defile's effect triggers and re-casts the spell.

Honestly, they could have addressed the issue by making Dreadsteed a 1/2. But nope, inelegant solutions is what Hearthstone is all about.

Did anyone else notice that in this video the change to dreadstead would be a buff? It removes the danger of filling your board with 1/1s and it still works with Spiritsinger Umbra. It's only a nerf if you are trying to use Kel Thuzad, Baron Rivendare, and you only have 1 dreadsteed.

They should just change the effect of defile to trigger all it's instances before deathrattles activates
Then it'd be worse against stuff like Possessed Villager. They could hardcode an interaction with Dreadsteed, but then it'd be inconsistent.

you can even argue it should act like the old bugged lightbomb where it did damage to one enemy at time and the deathrattles only triggered after the effect ended
No, Arcane Missiles finishes it's effect, and then the deathrattles go off. Defile is a re-cast, which means the effect finishes every time.
The effect needs to finish in order for the system to know if it's killed a minion.

acutally the dreadsteed umbra thing still works, its just that all the dreadsteeds will summon at the end of your turn... i think?
This is positive, if you fill your board with dreadsteeds, it no longers lock your board... but it truely just adds dust to your collection, which is useful

Jacqueline I think its because of the new warlock card in LotFT that deals one damage to all minions and if a minion dies it casts itself again. With Dreadsteed it would be an infinit loop and the game would never end
So that it doesn't glitch defile, I would guess.
+Kerem Seker Hearthstone handles potential infinite loops by putting a hard cap on how many times it can repeat the same action. Defile would, at best, almost kill anything that can be played (save for priest health buff shenanigans).
Are we not going ot address the fact that that ungoro pack had two sharazins in it?
I wouldnt have been suprised if they nerfed Major Noggenfogger and said that the random emotes including old 'Sorry!' emote is having too good results in ladder ...

i got to legend with dreadsteed warlock the december before the first standard rotation. i will miss it dearly
@Kripparrian There is an extremely simple solution to this "conundrum". Simply make it so that the Defile spell resolves before Dreadsteed's deathrattle effect triggers. This would cause Dreadsteed to only give Defile 1 extra cast.
Remember when Blizzard briefly changed Poison Seeds to resolve BEFORE Explosive Sheep's Deathrattle would trigger? It would be exactly like that.
CoffeeCaveman it's not the same because defile is literally casting a spell multiple times. Deathrattles generally trigger after spells, in which case of course defile casts, kills, deathrattle triggers, then defile casts again due to getting a kill, and so on. Poison seeds killing things and triggering a deathrattle afterwards was a strange interaction that was likely not intended since it doesn't follow the order of most other spells resolutions

This game is going to die because of these changes killing fun cards in the game.
I already stopped playing a few months ago. Theres too much bullshit going around over and over again. I remember finally gettin genough dust for a legendary a few days after they nerfed Yogg. Yogg was the most fun most interesting card in the game and they nerfed it because it was too much fun. I never had a yogg yet it was the one card I hoped an opponent would play because it as so fun to play against. It feels like they want ot stream line the already simplified card game to make it more uninteresting and bland. All of the best decks are always the most boring and cliche aggro archetype.
Treachery plus Fel Reaver. You have to make this deck Kripp. Toss in all 8 0 cost minions. Mill for 24 cards, on turn 10 this will deal 28 to 36 damage minimum depending on who went first. Just from fatigue.
I wonder if the interaction with Umbra will still work, just it'll only happen at end of turn?

The real thing to ask is when you get by randon the bad prince legendary while everyone else have good hero cards
Dreadsteed is obviously being nerfed because of the crazy potential for the death rattle combination with frozen throne. I imagine there's a card or two in the expansion that gets buffed or have bonuses when summoning a death rattle, or even triggering one. Bride even spoke about a key term returning would be death rattle.
So long dreadsteed, we had... occasionally giddy times.

I'm happy to have helped contribute to your new awesome place :) However I wanted to see you beaten so badly at the end of the second clip. Got so cocky with taking 2 turns not casting anything but attacking w/ random dreadsteeds due to mayor noggenfogger. All in all maybe it gave this game a better feel watching you have to get serious at the end. I guess you can't be super serious mode 24/7 and it did make for a great clip :)
Why couldn't they just make Dreadsteed resummon after spell effects end, or even make an exception for Defile specifically? This nerf seems way over the top for one silly interaction. Rip one of my favorite cards. :(
On the bright side at least with a full board of Dreadsteeds we'll be able to sacrifice some to play more minions, though why you would want anything other than Dreadsteed I don't know.
The solution is just an internal stop on Defile that makes it stop going off if the only minion on the board is Dreadsteed. That way, Dreadsteed is still cool, and the Defile + Dreadsteed combo in Wild will kill all non-Dreadsteed minions.

i dont see why the change was even needed? the way i understand the rules and interactions of hearthstone, dreadsteed's deathrattle wouldnt even trigger until *after* the defile effect ends.
Defile's effect does end. Then the deathrattles trigger. Then Defile does a check to see if anything has died. Then it re-casts.
Watching the effect of Curse of Rafaam, I wish the effect of the 'Cursed!' card was 'add a Cursed! card to your opponent's hand'. That way you could hot potato Rafaam for hilarious shenanigans.

I think dreadsteed isn't the only card that could break the game with defile, take grim patron as an example, a 1 health patron, a 2 health one and a 3 health one.. it would go on a loop forever if i'm not mistaken
Well in all reality there is a four card instant win combo with Dreadsteed. Dreadsteed + Knife Juggler + Deathspeaker + Defile. GG.

So, the first game would be pretty much un-affected by the nerf, right?
The first steed would just spawn at the end of turn, creating the summon-all cycle, and from there, the only difference would be that you would get your steeds at end of turn instead immediately, which would be actually better since it would allow you to play a minion in steed's place.
The Steeds are still going to summon at the end of opponents turn if he kills them right? So they will be able to attack, right?
I believe the only time it would make a difference in the first game is from 7:05 - 7:45. Steed dying would cause less possible targets for the darkbomb. Pretty much unaffected though.
Would be a different story if his opponent had 2 minions that could attack while noggen was alive and the first one attacked a steed.

You would summon the dreadsteed, Umbra would trigger its deathrattle, which wouldnt resolve until the end of the turn, and when the second steed is summoned it's deatrattle would trigger, since its already the end of the turn and so on until the board is full.
Or are you saying the second steed that comes at the end of your turn wouldnt have its deathrattle trigger until the end of your oppenents turn? Then you would at least get 3 total steeds, unless Umbra was still alive at the start of your turn. In which it would cycle for another 2 steeds for each turn Umbra is alive.
Its prob being nerfed because in the knights of the frozen throne there is a card that does 1 damage to all minions but if it kills a minion the spell will be recast. Since dreadsteed would just die infinitely, the effect would clear the whole board and would keep going forever
When are you doing the cruel Dinomancer combo? It sucks but it's pretty fun.

I don't get it. Sure, Defile interaction is a problem, but why not make it that the minions don't get removed from the board and activate their deathrattles until after Defile stops casting? I mean, If minions die while casting Defile, wouldn't Grim Patrons pose an infinite loop issue as well?

I suppose you can't sac pac/coil twice or trade and sac pac/coil or trade/sac pac/coil and ravenous pterodax. I think Baron should still work the same, just delayed.
Spirit Singer I'm not sure about though. When you summon a Dreadsteed with her on board, a new one will be summoned at the end of the turn, will the one summoned at the end of the turn summon another one immediately? And then fill the board?
All this said, I think they could find a workaround to keep old Dreadsteed. Like resummon the steed after defile resolves. But that's probably too much effort for a Wild card.
TacitIron Hav It is a big nerf, for example you can't hit with it, then taunt it up, can't multiply several of them with Kelthuzad and if your board is full at the end of the turn it wont come back. You can say these are niche situations, but the entire card is niche, if it loses any positive interactions it gets even more unplayable. Not to mention the change didn't need to be this way, they could've made an exemption with the card, like with Bouncing blade (hits only 60 times maximum, not billion against a card with billions of hp)

Also if Spirit Singer combo still works then hopefully losing bigger KT ones won't hurt too much. Is Kripp even running KT in this video?

It's cause they're too lazy to change card interactions, if they left it as is it would literally break the game with defile.
Seems like they could simply trigger the effect of defile immediately before deathrattles occur. But I guess they want to get damage on the deathrattle-summons that occur.

Mike B, The minions need to die in order for defile to check if it should be recast. Since deathrattles happen immediately after a minion dies, defile must happen after deathrattles occur. Changing this would require a massive overhaul of the phasing system that's been in place since the game was first released.

I think this is a buff to dreadsteed and it doesn't break cards like defile. Its only worse in a few fringe cases like as a wall with noggenfogger.
For all of you who don't understand the nerf, it's caus of the new card (spoilers!) "Defile": "Deal 1 damage to all minions. If any die, cast this again." if Dreadsteed wouldn't get nerfed you would break the game in an endless loop: spell->dmg -> death-> revive ->repeat. Loops like that are one of the main reasons cards get changed, cause that is much simpler than change aktivation order or reprogramm a bigger part of the game.
Isn't the effect taking place at the end of the turn better? ... You can play a new card to keep it from coming back if you don't want it

Well, they just cant make a delay for dreadsteed. For example they will respawn after ending of defile interactions.

When they nerf cards, they usually let you dust them for their full worth. So you won't lose out on any dust. Still, the card being nerfed this way is dumb. There were several better options than making it useless.
I am not bitching about dust. I am bitching about fun deck that will be just destroyed.
