I read it and I thought it is a great book. In a world who was mainly dominated by 2 big ideology Christianity and Judaism it was interesting for me as a Muslim to see what islam brought to the world. I think it is a very serious and well writing book well done to him.
HI! So I just finished this book last night ... and started to dig into the Peter a bit more on the internet. I stumbled across your review and appreciated that someone else also found it utterly fascinating to connect the dots ... and WOW given the situation in Ukraine and Russia's current interest in saying ok - we'll take the Donbas basin (OIL!) I hope you know there is a follow up book - The New Silk Roads : The New Asia and the Remaking of the World Order. I ACTUALLY saw this book at the booksellers first and went - HEY that sounds intriguing and then realized there was a volume ahead of it to read. So I am excited to now get on with the follow up. TO much of the world wants a quick history lesson ... as you discovered this really isn't feasible (yes I agree you now want to know MORE about a lot!) It took me 2 months of on and off reading to get through this - I felt I was in a 3 semester course on history and was a lot heavier than the fair I normally read. I think the world needs to take 2 months and become better informed - we may start to empathize with each other more.
