  • Adam shares one of the many props he loved building for MythBusters--a speed build of an airplane cockpit that exemplifies the joy of a quick and dirty build. It comes from the episode where Adam and Jamie tested the different plane boarding strategies to find the most efficient boarding process, which you can watch at: • What's the Best Plane ... Special appearance from Adam's dog Maggie!

Did you study the fastest way to DE-board a plane? I've always wished that they would let anyone with an aisle seat who does NOT have anything in an overhead compartment (and the person(s) next to them if they don't either) to zip right off the plane before anyone else is allowed to stand. Would be difficult to enforce, though.

That's what I like about this channel, telling everyone to keep appreciating what you've done (created) in the past, even when it's not the best of the best, but it can be something that brings back good memories or something that brought you where you are right now and still relates to you to day but probably in a different way than it was back than.

17k hrs in commercial cockpit. Retired off of 767. This segment is a smile-good. We used to have great times in the cockpit, up till the mid 90s. Oddly, once they started boarding from mid-plane, it was a detractor for us. We could no lounger do the meet/say goodbye easily. By the early 2000's the job got to be a drag.

Great episode and a great build. I know what you mean about "12-yr-old- self". My cousin and I were close and from ages 10 to 12, we built stuff in his basement. His dad has these ladder/trellises and we would use as the the basis of: Spaceship, airplane, submarine, big rig. And we would make controls out of cardboard, calculators, and general stuff. They all were filled in with our imaginations and it was awesome. Play that kids today don't get.
Oh and for the record, every "play" of each build ended in a "crash" -- that we somehow survived and then we'd make the next build.
Keep these videos coming -- stay safe and healthy.

That's why Southwest generally has less expensive tickets as they do random seat assignment, the quicker they can board the more turnover they can get and the more flights they can fit into a day. which results in more revenue... loved the episode I remember watching it as a kid and honestly is what pushed me into Operations Finance.

This reminds me of the "set" builders on video game motion capture shoots. If a day seems speedy, these particular set builders create tangible sets out of plywood and 2x4s in less than an hour so scenes can continue to be shot throughout the day. Not only that they have to meet certain dimensions based on not real life objects and spaces created in a computer, so when actors touch things like a hand rail in a scene it lines up with the 3D models in the game. They are a wonder to witness at work. And the results often end up similar to this build, and then the actors get to actually play make believe in the scene.

This cockpit made me smile even tho i didn't get to sit at it =) Good job!
It obviously needs to sit on the floor near where you work, so you can sit at it from time to time and have a smile.
