@The Broken Sword I think the reason why their are more orcs than Uruk hai might be because orcs might be easier to master produce than Uruk hai. Kinda like in star wars how it's easier/cheaper for the Separatists movement / CIS to mast produce B1 battle droids than it is to master produce stronger more deadly droids like the BX commando droids.

I like how Tolkien wrote the orcs, implying the existance of these diffrent tribes of orcs, and showing a bit of them, but not explainng a lot about them. It ads good mystery and room for speculation about middle earth.
I suspect the Uruks were used in the most vicious fighting in any battles, which would cause more of them to be killed in battle. They may also not have reproduced as quickly as the average orc.
In The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy by Peter Jackson, Saruman appeared to believe that the Uruks were his invention. The Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf mentions Saruman breeding the Uruks to possess the traits of "Orc and goblin men" without the two races' weakness. However, the film-lore book The Lord of the Rings: Weapons and Warfare clears up this discrepancy by explaining that Saruman was in fact only replicating Sauron's method. Sauron's Uruks, seen in The Return of the King, have noticeably rougher features than Saruman's. Saruman's Uruk-hai are shown as being released from a kind of membrane in the mud deep under Isengard (special commentary on the DVD edition explained that they were trying to base the scene on an early description of Tolkien's that Orcs "worm their way out of the ground like maggots").

Even the Mouth said words to the effect of "Dwarf mail, Elvish cloak and sword of the fallen West, a conspiracy surely ". The Mouth would have known the difference between an Elvish blade and an Arnorean long knife on sight.

Can you please do a video talking about the different orc armies of Mordor which include the strongest orcs due to armour, durability, skill etc. Mordor Orcs, Morannon Orcs, Morgal Orcs, Misty Mountain Orcs, Black Uruks. Then maybe combine with Uruk Hai with Isengard. It would be interesting to see which orc armies are the strongest as they are all trained, bred, armoured differently. Another great idea is Men Swordsmen vs Elves Sword capabilities. Then Men Archers vs Elve archers as we know elves already are the better archers but then again Men (Rohirrim) are far superior cavalry and as foot soldiers I’d think are more superior too.

They seemed to report directly to Sarumen, whereas Sauron's uruks seemed report to greater beings like Nazgul and the Mouth of Sauron, etc.,who were much more powerful henchmen Sauron. Saruman doesn't seem to have been able to collect similarly powerful henchmen, although that would have been the case if he'd successfully recruited Gandalf. Despite having a high opinion of themselves, the Uruk-hi on Sauron were no match for the Rohirim. Boromir was half-dead with orc arrows and still killing Uruk-hai. So while they appeared to be the most powerful orcs, they appear still to be inferior warriors to humans.
What-if video idea for you to do: What if Gandalf never fell at the Bridge of Khazad-dum and continued with the Fellowship to Lothlorien and on forward?
Also would like to add that the normal Orc probably can breed a lot faster than the specialized Uruk. After all, look at the thousands upon thousands of Misty Mountain breed of Orc.
I always felt that the sun would remind the orcs' bodies of their elfishness, and it was incompatable with what they had become in some way. They forgot how to elf, and it was oddly rising to the top again in the sun.
According to one theory, the Uruk-hai race is formed by combining orc and human pairs. This creation is connected with the spiritual incarnations of divine beings, who are essentially Maia, such as Sauron and Saruman. In addition to the difficulty of creating orc creation, Uruk-hai creation probably requires more use of force (spiritual incarnation) and therefore the Uruk-hai race is less common in the hordes of evil forces than the orc race.
I always thought there were more orcs purely because they were easier to breed? Although saying that Sauron did have like 3000 years so maybe he just got a good bulk buy deal on orcs
So the real question should be, where does the 45-70 come into play in Middle Earth. I think it’s when you’re dealing with the Fighting Uruk-hai , I mean, I’m not worried too much about the regular Orc’s. I know I can easily smoke an Orc with a 5.56 but when you’re dealing with a Fighting Uruk-hai , they’re bigger and more aggressive for the 5.56. So yeah the 45-70 is a great choice to take them down. It definitely has a place. Trust me I’m a Rangers of Ithilien
45-60 is slightly better. Less recoil, weighs a bit less so more can be carried, and BP so reloads might be possible; assuming primers. Still, the Remington-Lee would be a good choice, any version. (The Mausers would be my second choice.)
@@TheBrokenSword in the movies, while in Rivendell and before the Council, Gandalf tells Elrond Saruman was crossing "orcs with goblin-men". Since in the books "gonlin-men" is already a crossbreeding of orcs and Men, applying this to the movies, Sarumans was crossbreeding orcs with an already hybrid creature, trying to improve it.
I remember reading the battle of moria that when they saw a uruk-hia they said they were very rare and far between I don't remember the exact quote but like for every 100 orcs you might find 1 or 10 uruks at the most
I definitely think they were superior physically and mentally, I would assume the reason for them being far fewer in number could be due to the extra time and energy their creator would take making them vs normal orcs. And possibly due to this process they cannot procreate like normal orcs.
I would be extremally concerned if I could not watch Lord Of The Rings since I have both a digital and physical Extended Editions of the trilogy and also have the theatrical cuts on DVD.

Is Uruk-hai the name of their race? Because from what i remeber only the ones from Isenguard are written with the hai in the end, while those from Mordor are only called Uruks. Regarding the question of the day, Uruks do seem supperior to normal orcs in every way. Treebeard guesses that Saruman's Uruk-hai are the result of some twisted union between man and orc, which appears to be something new and unknown. Thus the process of creating orcs must be diffrent from creating Uruk-hai, mabey its even harder to make Uruk-hai. If the two procedures do not interfere with each other, then Sauron would have no reason to not make orcs as well as Uruks, he does rely on supperior numbers a lot.
The way I seem to understand it is the Uruk-Hai are the ones bred by Saruman in Isengard, and the Black Uruks are the ones bred by Sauron in Mordor. So Uruks to be me is just the general name for all!
I got a feeling they were the result of a eugenics system similar to one of Sparta along with selective breeding. Basically any scrawny orc babies were eliminated or tossed in to the general rabble.

Saruman's uruks were portrayed too menacing in the films. They were just slightly improved orks. Uruk means ork. And like all orks they were short with crooked legs and long arms like an orangutan. They were all shorter than humans, not over 2m tall like in the films.
the uruk-hai and the larger Uruks of Mordor were superior to common orcs. BUT They were obviously comparatively rare, I assume they were harder to breed or train or whatever so the majority of Orcs were the 'lesser' variety. So they can be superior, but even then, not decisive due to lower numbers. the other option is they are superior to common Orcs, but inferior to their enemies, just not to the degree that the regular Orcs were. Couple that with their evident rarity and they could shift the balance of things, but only if used correctly by their superiors.
I feel you're basically spot on then! Definitely in terms of the book! It is just the movies that powered them a bit more making them more powerful than say a Rohan warrior.
As a race and fighting force, they might hold the top spot, but on an individual level, I think the Dark Númenorians might be better, just not nearly as plentiful.
I genuinely like the Uruk Hai in the films more than the books as they truly feel far more dangerous as foes than the often bumbling and cowardly portrayal of the Uruks in the novels. The film version of the Uruk Hai definitely feel..."perfected"

Uruks are basically a special breed of Orc, probably with a minimal amount of their elf heritage within them.
Also would like to add that the normal Orc probably can breed a lot faster than the specialized Uruk. After all, look at the thousands upon thousands of Misty Mountain breed of Orc.

They are at the top of the pile for Orcs, but still orcs and lower in the pile for enemies.
I always felt that the sun would remind the orcs' bodies of their elfishness, and it was incompatable with what they had become in some way. They forgot how to elf, and it was oddly rising to the top again in the sun.

According to one theory, the Uruk-hai race is formed by combining orc and human pairs. This creation is connected with the spiritual incarnations of divine beings, who are essentially Maia, such as Sauron and Saruman. In addition to the difficulty of creating orc creation, Uruk-hai creation probably requires more use of force (spiritual incarnation) and therefore the Uruk-hai race is less common in the hordes of evil forces than the orc race.

So the real question should be, where does the 45-70 come into play in Middle Earth. I think it’s when you’re dealing with the Fighting Uruk-hai , I mean, I’m not worried too much about the regular Orc’s. I know I can easily smoke an Orc with a 5.56 but when you’re dealing with a Fighting Uruk-hai , they’re bigger and more aggressive for the 5.56. So yeah the 45-70 is a great choice to take them down. It definitely has a place. Trust me I’m a Rangers of Ithilien
45-60 is slightly better. Less recoil, weighs a bit less so more can be carried, and BP so reloads might be possible; assuming primers. Still, the Remington-Lee would be a good choice, any version. (The Mausers would be my second choice.)
If I remember correctly, the movies mention that Saruman bred orcs and goblins to create the Uruk-Hai. Is this correct? Is it cannon or movie only?
I believe the movies mention they are bred between orcs and men or elves, the orcs and goblins are realistically the same thing :)
Movie only. In 'canon' both Sauron and Saruman had Uruk-hai. Saruman also bred half-orcs (which are different).
@@TheBrokenSword in the movies, while in Rivendell and before the Council, Gandalf tells Elrond Saruman was crossing "orcs with goblin-men". Since in the books "gonlin-men" is already a crossbreeding of orcs and Men, applying this to the movies, Sarumans was crossbreeding orcs with an already hybrid creature, trying to improve it.

I remember reading the battle of moria that when they saw a uruk-hia they said they were very rare and far between I don't remember the exact quote but like for every 100 orcs you might find 1 or 10 uruks at the most
That is something I don’t know, but it would be cool to know exactly how many more orcs than Uruks there were!

I definitely think they were superior physically and mentally, I would assume the reason for them being far fewer in number could be due to the extra time and energy their creator would take making them vs normal orcs. And possibly due to this process they cannot procreate like normal orcs.

Is Uruk-hai the name of their race? Because from what i remeber only the ones from Isenguard are written with the hai in the end, while those from Mordor are only called Uruks. Regarding the question of the day, Uruks do seem supperior to normal orcs in every way. Treebeard guesses that Saruman's Uruk-hai are the result of some twisted union between man and orc, which appears to be something new and unknown. Thus the process of creating orcs must be diffrent from creating Uruk-hai, mabey its even harder to make Uruk-hai. If the two procedures do not interfere with each other, then Sauron would have no reason to not make orcs as well as Uruks, he does rely on supperior numbers a lot.
The way I seem to understand it is the Uruk-Hai are the ones bred by Saruman in Isengard, and the Black Uruks are the ones bred by Sauron in Mordor. So Uruks to be me is just the general name for all!

Treebeard speculates, but the half-orcs are a separate thing from the Uruk-hai.
I got a feeling they were the result of a eugenics system similar to one of Sparta along with selective breeding. Basically any scrawny orc babies were eliminated or tossed in to the general rabble.

Saruman's uruks were portrayed too menacing in the films. They were just slightly improved orks. Uruk means ork. And like all orks they were short with crooked legs and long arms like an orangutan. They were all shorter than humans, not over 2m tall like in the films.

the uruk-hai and the larger Uruks of Mordor were superior to common orcs. BUT They were obviously comparatively rare, I assume they were harder to breed or train or whatever so the majority of Orcs were the 'lesser' variety.
So they can be superior, but even then, not decisive due to lower numbers. the other option is they are superior to common Orcs, but inferior to their enemies, just not to the degree that the regular Orcs were. Couple that with their evident rarity and they could shift the balance of things, but only if used correctly by their superiors.
I feel you're basically spot on then! Definitely in terms of the book! It is just the movies that powered them a bit more making them more powerful than say a Rohan warrior.

As a race and fighting force, they might hold the top spot, but on an individual level, I think the Dark Númenorians might be better, just not nearly as plentiful.
That seems to be the case with many, the better they are, the fewer you get!
I genuinely like the Uruk Hai in the films more than the books as they truly feel far more dangerous as foes than the often bumbling and cowardly portrayal of the Uruks in the novels.
