Hi GG, I have watched all your videos. AMAZING! It’s insightful, concise and just direct, which I love. Keep making these as I’m sure a lot of people are finding it incredibly useful, as am I.
Hi Gigi, thank you for creating these videos, super helpful to gain perspectives from the lens of an Amazon interviewer and a bar raiser to top it :) Wanted to ask you a question which always comes to my mind while preparing - Is it a dealbreaker (for hire or no-hire decision) if the candidate does not have past experience stories which are at the level of the work being done at Amazon. Even though the candidate has the knowledge to back up his/her experience and answer all the supporting questions from the interviewer. Basically, are Amazon interviewers looking for over the top past experiences only?
If I've understood your question properly, you're asking, if your examples don't reflect the scale and complexity of the work being done by current Amazonians at the level you are interviewing, is it a deal breaker? I would say in the majority of cases yes. As a Bar Raiser I would be concerned if you haven't operated at the scale and complexity of the team. Sometimes candidates show a history of rapid growth and the panel may decide it's worth a risk because they believe the person can cope with an extraordinary growth curve. But this would, in my experience, be the exception rather than rule. Hope that helps. 🧙♀️

The only reason they would be at odds, is if they can't agree that the candidate is Raising The Bar. That can happen for any number of variations of 1) they don't agree the behaviours evidenced in Key LPs are above average 2) they don't agree that the scope and complexity of the examples are reflective of the level 3) one see flags that are "concerns" in LPs. Graduates have to use examples from University. So if you're only a year or two away from graduation thats ok. See my "how far back should my examples go" video. If you don't have a good answer then it's ok to ask for a new question. But I warn against doing that more than once, at most twice at Panel.
Hello GG, what happens if I’ve used an example twice - one with bar raiser and the other with one of the other interviewers? Will this effect the decision?
What are the pointers on areas that we might have to work on after a rejection on interview. Although the interview was very decent , and mostly interviewee was very positive that it will go through
The HR was the third party team for my team, she asked me in 2 principles each one two questions, I can’t get any clue if she liked my answers or not she was neutral, but for my it wasn’t the best interview I’ve performed at the panel. Is this an indicator? It has been 5 days now without a response and the status is still under consideration
Studies show there is little correlation between how candidates feel an interview went and how interviewers feel it went. There’s no lint in trying to second guess. If you haven’t heard in 7 working days follow up with your recruiter.

Hello GG. I have completed my loop interview yesterday. I have really did well in 1st 4 rounds gave excellent examples for each questions but in the final round with hiring manager out of 5 questions I couldn't come up with good examples for two questions...What are my chances of getting selected ?
Hi Bryann- I personally always felt a bit awkward when people asked me that. That's aside what benefit is it to you to know that? Are you going to try to do a better job just because you're sat in front of the Bar Raiser? Of course you're not! You're going to try to nail every interview. So what's the point of asking? Good luck.
I'm afraid I avoid giving specific guidance on what LPs to focus on. It really can differ between team, manager and countries. My best advice is captured in my video "Which Leadership Principles to Focus On"- Good Luck.
After 4 rounds of interview. I got feedback from recruiter that the position is on hold and they will keep my application open for 6 months and contact me if position is open. Will they really call me or its just another way of saying NO?
Hi Arman- more often than not the Bar Raiser is not from the team you are applying for a role in. But that's not always easy to work out from job titles, so that's a bit of a hit and miss methodology. So if an interviewer tells you they aren't able to answer specific questions about the role as they aren't on the team, or words to that effect, chances are they are the BR. BUT that's not 100% reliable. Sometimes people from outside teams will get drafted into a panel, if the Recruitment Co-ordinator is having a hard time finding interviewers. So in summary, there's no 100% fool proof methodology. 🧙♀️
@@amazoninterviewwhizzdayone503 Thank you very much GG to taking care of my question and sharing this valuable information with everyone here. All best,
So, why are the hiring managers kept till the end as a part of the panel interview if they have the final decision on whether to hire a candidate or not? (A part from the Bar raiser). Why not have an interview first with the hiring manager? And depending on this interview outcome, the candidate is to be invited to a panel interview!
@@amazoninterviewwhizzdayone503 thank you for your reply. It had just happened to me today! The hiring manager was one of the panel interviewers, scheduled on the last day of the panel interview. But then I wonder why bother doing 5 panel interviews a part from the first 2 (total 7), and wasting everyone's time by not scheduling the HM interview before the panel interview 🤷🏻♂️ Thanks anyway GG!
I just had my two first loop interviews! The one with my hiring manager was GREAT and he even recognised me so. However, the interview with the bar raiser was more tricky and I believe It wasn't my best interview although I somehow did good. At the end of the interview the bar raiser literally told me that he will inform the Hiring Manager as he will decide. Does that mean in your experience that the bar raiser is not that sure about me fitting the company and relies on the Hiring Manager for the final decision?
Understood, thanks! Perhaps the interviewer was not the bar raiser then. Is is possible that I have no bar raiser in the loop interview as this is for a L6 position?@@amazoninterviewwhizzdayone503
Hey Hema- they ask exactly the same kind of questions as every other interviewer ask. And like every other interviewer they're looking for evidence that the candidate is Bar Raising in the LP they're testing for. Don't believe the nonsense you read elsewhere that there are special strategies and questions from the Bar Raiser. Their role, when they interview you is exactly the same as every other interviewer. It's what they do in the rest of the process is different.
@@amazoninterviewwhizzdayone503 thank you so much for the quick reply! My virtual loop got scheduled for 3rd week of this month. I am a bit nervous. I have a question regarding LP stories. Are those stories always should be technical or something related to process changes in the team etc.,? What if my stories are simple? Do they judge me based on my stories, though my stories are related to my work experience? And how long the story should be when the interviewer asks me a question on LP in final loop? On an average how much % of people will make until final loop and how much % of candidates will succeed in final loop? Once again thank you very much! Your videos helped me to make until final round.
Hey Hema- it's important your examples match the complexity of the type of work required in that role. Lots of candidates get rejected because it's clear from their examples that they don't have the experience of dealing with the type of complexity they'd face at Amazon. Please see my video on "how long should my examples be". The early rounds and loop conversion rates differs wildly between teams. Hope that helps. 🧙♀️

Hi, GG very helpful content. I have my final interviews next week. I have a question. The phone screen ( obviously I just passed) interviewer is a team member of the hiring manager ( I found out when I asked him the questions at the end), I assume he will not be one of the 5 people who will do my interviews. Will he be at the final panel that will decide I will be hired or not? One of the reasons why I ask this is the two stories/examples I shared with him were quite strong, can I repeat them in the final interviews? Does his opinion and data count at the final decision? Thank you!
The same person is pretty likely to also be at loop. Standard practice. Yes you can use the same examples again. I'd recommended making sure if you do, you reshape them for a different LP.
@@amazoninterviewwhizzdayone503 thanks for the prompt reply! You mean he will interview me again for another 45-60 minutes? And he will be one of the 5 people at the panel?
The format of the final interviews is similar to the phone screen, right? If the phone screen person also interview me at the loop, which data (from the phone screen or the loop) that he will use at the panel meeting? I can reshape the example, the body of the example is good, I used it in phone screen as an example try to avoid missing deadlines/failure, but I can twist it to say I failed the first and what I did to avoid the failure again ( in case they ask me about the failure questions- and at work I did not have significant failure). I told the phone screener I avoid the failure ( which is true), if I say in the loop interview that I failed at the beginning, it is not exactly consistent, although the really important part is how and what I did to be successful. Thank you so much for your insights!
@@brian65971 Phone screen and loop interviews are the same format. Anyone who interviews you again, should be assigned different Lps the second time. Make sure your stories are consistent when you reshape them. All data gathered from all of your interviews is stored centrally and visible to EVERYONE interviewing you, so they'll spot inconsistencies. Evidence at early rounds is used to get you to the next round- it isn't used as a matter of course to make the decision at the final round. Sometimes it is referred back to if they feel they need more validation on evidence gathered at final round- but in the main it is not brought into the final round de-brief.

if there is a question but i didn't faced in my jobs or maybe i faced during my study in university so it is better to ask interview if he can skip question or it is better to think about the any answer even if i faced when i was student in school or university
Probably not going to swing it against you if everything else is great
After a month, I finally made it to the final round which comes 3 weeks from now :D - huge amount of time to prepare. Intense!
Goid Luck
What are the pointers on areas that we might have to work on after a rejection on interview. Although the interview was very decent , and mostly interviewee was very positive that it will go through
There’s no way for me to answer that without actually having experience of your interview performance.
Based on your experience, how many people actually get interviews solely from applying online? Not recommended from a referral.
I'm sorry I don't have that data.
@@amazoninterviewwhizzdayone503 someone who refers me in this position, asked one of the people who made the panel with me that they did the debierf and should have been notified by now, is there any something confidential to retrieve the result of the debrief? As he answered generically not specifically
Only your recruiter is permitted to give you the outcome. It would be a massive confidentiality breach for someone else on the panel to share the outcome with you/your friend.
@@ranaelhussein8414 sorry to hear that. This video explains how it works. It focuses on the Bar Raiser but the process is the same for all interviewers.

Hello GG. I have completed my loop interview yesterday. I have really did well in 1st 4 rounds gave excellent examples for each questions but in the final round with hiring manager out of 5 questions I couldn't come up with good examples for two questions...What are my chances of getting selected ?
The decision to hire is based on the total evidence gathered. If you really did excel in 4 interviews, 1 porcine is unlikely to sink you.
@@amazoninterviewwhizzdayone503 Thank you GG..This gave some hope..Fingers crossed :p ...Keep you posted on the outcome.
@@harimanoj1 please do
Hello GG, can I ask my interviewer directly "Are you the bar raiser?" Would that reflect negatively on me or am I overthinking?
Hi Bryann- I personally always felt a bit awkward when people asked me that. That's aside what benefit is it to you to know that? Are you going to try to do a better job just because you're sat in front of the Bar Raiser? Of course you're not! You're going to try to nail every interview. So what's the point of asking? Good luck.
Which areas/types of questions to focus for the pathways role ?
I'm afraid I avoid giving specific guidance on what LPs to focus on. It really can differ between team, manager and countries. My best advice is captured in my video "Which Leadership Principles to Focus On"- Good Luck.
After 4 rounds of interview. I got feedback from recruiter that the position is on hold and they will keep my application open for 6 months and contact me if position is open. Will they really call me or its just another way of saying NO?
It’s not a lie. If it was a no they’d say no. Amazon isn’t afraid of telling candidates no.
@@amazoninterviewwhizzdayone503 Thanks Gigi Your videos helped me throught out the process. 😇
You’re welcome
Now I got an email asking for documents to create an offer. Do they also ask for documents if position is on hold?
@bhaktikhare7388 it sounds promising
What would be a rule of thumb that we can use to recognize the bar riser?
All best,
@@armanmokhtarpour my absolute pleasure..🧙♀️
So, why are the hiring managers kept till the end as a part of the panel interview if they have the final decision on whether to hire a candidate or not? (A part from the Bar raiser). Why not have an interview first with the hiring manager? And depending on this interview outcome, the candidate is to be invited to a panel interview!
That’s normally exactly what happens. If an HM hadn’t met the candidate before loop as a BR I’d be asking why not!
@@amazoninterviewwhizzdayone503 thank you for your reply. It had just happened to me today!
The hiring manager was one of the panel interviewers, scheduled on the last day of the panel interview. I feel that the HM interview didn't go well. But then I wonder why bother doing 5 panel interviews a part from the first 2 (total 7), and wasting everyone's time by not scheduling the HM interview before the panel interview 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks anyway GG!
There must have been a reason they couldn’t make early rounds. Maybe vacation
How do you know which loop interviewer is the bar raiser? Do they let it be known they are the bar raiser?
How To Recognise The Bar Raiser
ua-cam.com/video/JrxXn5T1nic/v-deo.html
I just had my two first loop interviews! The one with my hiring manager was GREAT and he even recognised me so. However, the interview with the bar raiser was more tricky and I believe It wasn't my best interview although I somehow did good. At the end of the interview the bar raiser literally told me that he will inform the Hiring Manager as he will decide. Does that mean in your experience that the bar raiser is not that sure about me fitting the company and relies on the Hiring Manager for the final decision?
No the Bar Raiser is the final decision maker after they’ve conducted a full de-brief of all the interviewers.
Understood, thanks! Perhaps the interviewer was not the bar raiser then. Is is possible that I have no bar raiser in the loop interview as this is for a L6 position?@@amazoninterviewwhizzdayone503
Sorry I missed this question YT has stopped notifying me. No L6 would get hired without a Bar Raisers involvement
@GG, may I know what kind of questions the bar riser asks? What does he/she look for in the candidate who applied
@@amazoninterviewwhizzdayone503 thanks GG. I will definitely watch your video once again
@@amazoninterviewwhizzdayone503 could you please make videos on salary negotiation in pre-interview call and post final loop? I got pre-interview call scheduled for sometime next week and Sr. Recruiter said it is my chance to discuss compensation and HR related items along with interview preparation guidelines
I should’ve watched this video
It’s not something you can control- so don’t worry about it
Hi GG if I only got the final interview and I was not interviewed by the hiring manager, what does it mean?
It means nothing about you. It’s just something about their process.
Why would someone make it to the panel interview if the hiring manager does not want to work that person?
Because they may have thought they were a good prospect when they first interviewed them, but after an additional 5-7hrs worth of evidence gathered on them, they may change their mind.
@@amazoninterviewwhizzdayone503 thank you for the clarification. Great content. Very helpful!
My pleasure
By the way I got the job that I was applying for. Your content really helped. Thanks a bunch again.
Hi
What is a "bar raiser"?
ua-cam.com/video/TBoiAgoqU4E/v-deo.html
@@brian65971 very likely
Thank you GG! This content is really helpful . Helped me succeed in loop ,and be an Amazonian ❤
Congratulations 🙌
