I moved drys and nymphs to Plano Edge, quite a bit of space and magnetic tray with desk and pouch holder. Couldn’t ask for anything more.

I've been doing this thing lately where I will try to identify a flying insect upon landing on my sleeve, or a tree branch. Then I will tie on a pattern that imitates the larvae, pupa, or nymph state of that bug if doing subsurface work. A common house fly landed on my sleeve a while back while at the river; the color on the top of the insect was a shinny bluish hue, and it was relatively wide. Luckily I had a nymph which had a blue glass bead, a thorax with black dubbing, the body of the fly was black thread, and a shank length tail with a slight dark green hue to it. That one fly caught about ten fish within an hour or so until it finally turned into Linus' blanket after Pigpen got a hold of it. Great video.

Went to BiMart looking for flys, they some how only had foam spiders and copper nymphs, turns out to be the best trout lure combo for PNW stockers in the northwest area, Albany, Salem, Gervas ponds for sure hit the spiders( I also put a dab of shrimp gel for rainy days )

Life is funny. I was feeling mildly depressed after a VERY rainy day here in NorCal (the first of many so won't see the Sun for a while) and trying to get my little old doggie to go out and do her business. Harder than fly fishing! We finally got a 15 minute break and I got her out and mission accomplished. So I was feeling a bit better about things and decided to put on your podcast. It was solid content and reminded me of all I have learned from these great programs you guys do. Thank you. Nearing the end, I spotted a note on my desk. It was the directions to that spot in the story. I set it in a place of honor to remember that day. I had no idea that three seconds later, "Dave from California," would share a Reel Life Moment. I frankly had figured you'd decided not to use it (too long, doesn't really mention you guys and how awesome you are) and no worries on my end. My face must be a lot happier looking right now than it was two hours ago! Thanks again Spencer (Alex too!).

That's awesome! Yeah we've been using the LRL moments in the order they got submitted to us, so it's taking a bit to get through 'em all! But yours was fantastic!

@venturesflyco They have all been fun. Way to build community and not just content!

    Hey!
I feel like there are 2 worlds existing paralerly when it comes to fly selection: the old school felas who match the hatch. Than there are the newschool guys, euronimphers mainly who do not give a damn and tie on the fly that looks fancy.
The interesting thing is that both of them catch fish...
The oldschool guys often say you cannot catch fish on a pheasant tail during a caddis hatch.. well I did exactly that with a garish pink peaded p. tail.
I practise match the hatch though because I like things a little more complicated that they really are!

Thanks for a great episode Spencer. Do you plan to make any fly tying videos around these 15? I know a few of them exists in videos early on with Alex giving some tutorials. The step by step in those videos are great and even the links to each item that needs to be purchased are super helpful. I have tied 5 flys so far and all have been from those VFC videos. Would love some more content around tying some of the others in your list of 15. Thank you so much for everything!

Thanks for the valuable info. But, I'm surprised a perdigon didn't make your list. Is that because it's less of a realistic pattern?
    Same question for ant patterns.

It's less about whether it's realistic or not, and just what all I use on a regular basis. I use Perdigons a lot more than I used to, but I rarely use ants.

The slide on midges says "BIG!" yet the verbal commentary says "tiny". Hmmm. Maybe a correction needs to be made?? 🙂

Yeah that’s my bad. Copy and pasted the text from the stonefly slide while building the graphics… looks like I forgot to update it. - Alex, VFC
