My 2014 Escape 1.6T gets 31 mpg all day on my work/kid commutes and just got 35 mpg on a 1000 mile vacation. Recently got from my wife since she needed a minivan and was pleasantly surprised coming from her normal 24-25mpg average before I got it. Shows driving style matters big as I'm slow on acceleration and braking on purpose.
Love my Ford Escape 2017. I am 5'11, absolutely no issues with the seats. Has a more efficient interior than the Crv and a great sync 3 system, not to mention an enjoyable ride that puts a smile in your face.
Thank you for all pros/cons comments. I just bought an used one ,2015 basic Ford Escape 1,6l ,4 c.,certified used car with 32.000km . I didn't get too many information from the dealer ,not any owner manual , so owning the first time a Ford ,SUV.. I am happy with the driving in the worst winter condition in Alberta ,seems to have a good contact with the terrain, and learn the features as I drive. certified used
I have owned my 2017 Escape FWD for over a year. Mine cost just over 24K. It has the base radio and interior but it has the 2.0 with trailer tow package. This Compact SUV is to die for and with my snow tires mounted on steel wheel and factory wheel covers it goes thru the snow very well. Not AWD but at least a 2K savings. I'm so proud this American Company can build a better vehicle than the competition. I know the Japanese car snobs won't accept it but that's there loss.
Ford Escape all the way! I have owned 3 of these over the years, all have performed excellent over 100,000 miles no issues, no problems. Now own a 2.0 Titanium and it will run circles around the CRV in every performance aspect.
Jumperman 1 see you on the side of the road waiting for breakdown recovery. Honda is upper end quality and Japanese premium brand. Ford is a basic domestic run of the mill brand.
The Escape is definitely best to drive, the most power and thankfully no CVT. It's also the best looking one with it's more conservative looking exterior and European interior. Resale value isn't the best unfortunately.
Great job! Love the Escape, but there often seems to be reliability issues. The CRV might be a little boring, but it's rock solid in reliability and resale. I like the looks of the Escape much better, but the CRV grows on you. Fuel economy is excellent with the CRV.
I've driven both of these and the CRV is better overall. However, the Escape Titanium with the 2.0 is more fun to drive overall isn't that bad. Additionally there are big discount's available and financing offers on the Escape. The CRV is the best in this category but the Escape beats out the RAV-4. Great review by the way, these 2 are on my current short list!
I have the auto parallel park in my 2010 Escape that works extremely fast and isn't picky at all. It's weird to hear your complaints about the newer enhanced version being slower and more particular.
I leased a 2017 escape SE awd, eco 2.0l turbo, sport package appearance and tech package. zero down and I really like it so far. the extra torque is nice when you constantly go up big hills. however fuel economy is not the best but worth it to me to be able to accelerate going up hills at any speeds with decent loads in the vehicle. the sport appearance package makes the escape look much more appealing as well.
Am I the only one who misses the boxy design of the Escape? Out of the two; I like the Honda looks better. I am willing to bet it would have more trouble free miles as well. Every Honda I have bought, I have owned for 10 years or more.
I think the Escape is a beautiful vehicle. The CRV is just too much and too busy. If you wanna try to wow me by showing me your Ford can park itself, I'd be wowed by your laziness now impressed. The Escape engine is perfect. I'd definitely choose the Escape.
Very thorough reviews. I have a few comments. I recently took a 2017 Titanium Escape for a lengthy test, being that I'm considering trading in my Fusion. 1) I live on the east coast of Canada and am very familiar with broken pavement, ruts, bumps etc. The Escape I sampled had 10000kms on it, and I found it extremely composed. It swallowed every bump and rut thrown at it. No jarring at all. No rattles. This one was equipped with Michelin Latitude tires. 2) moving from the cloth buckets in my Fusion to the leather seats in the Escape, it did take some time to adjust. I felt like I was sliding around some, and lacked a little lateral support. All things equal, I prefer the seats in the Fusion, but I did get accustomed to the seats in the Escape. The leather is soft and as the drive went on I did "sink into them". No strange bumps or unevenness. I'd have mentioned it to Ford upon returning it. Perhaps there was an issue. 3) Sync 3 is fantastic. Ford has moved away from Microsoft. Blackberry has developed the current product.
F CHINO-jr. Yep. did the same only with our 2015. The 2017 was so much better, we couldn't resist. We are a couple months into ownership and love it. What gets me is it's solidity and materials are BMW X3 territory.

Same here I fucking love this car. Everyone here doesn't know it's a crv. (just came out in my area) everything about it is just perfect. I got mine in that slick af obsidian blue pearl. Looks hot in a sunny day. Love the different gradients of blue it reflects.
My husband and I just bought a 2018 Brand New Ford Escape Titanium as our family car and my work car. I was presently sharing my Sons 2012 Mustang v6 with him and I have to say there is no comparsion between the two vehicles. I was going to buy a Mustang GT but I needed to be practical especially at my age. But the Escape is a nice vehicle: a smooth ride, lots of storage space, love the adjustible seats and I lots of storage. I have to go back to the dealer to go over the vehicles features but I am sure I will love my new Escape. But no Ford vehicle can match a Mustang. I will miss it for its beauty, quick pickup and speed on the road its just the best car Ford ever made.
I compared both and bought the Escape. The Escape was far better on performance and was more fully featured. When I described the Escape’s features to the Honda dealer, he surprisingly said “I can’t match that; I think you’ve found your car”!
The Ford Escape is the best small SUV, it's sporty, fast, peppy, and it's based on a focus so it has car like handling. I have a 2013 model and I love everything about it
I had a Lincoln mkz hybrid, and it was totaled due to a deer. I was hard pressed to find something to replace it that would even begin to compare. I got a 2017 escape titanium and its nice! 38k miles for 20k, I feel like it's a good deal.
THERE'S NOTHING RESPONSIVE ABOUT A CVT I'm test driving a CVT Civic and I mash and let up on the gas a couple times to see the responsiveness and it doesn't do anything. the revs just stay at 1,500 RPM, just like the Altima BUT when I test drove a Jetta and focus the responded and do you wanna know what the focus and Jetta has? . . . 6 speed auto
Don't forget the Escape tows significantly more than the CR-V and is easily negotiated well below the MSRP of the Honda. Good luck getting that kind of a deal on a CR-V
Acceleration is where it's at The ford can get up and go I used to have a 2013 Ford escape but moved up to a 2015 Ford explorer sport with twin turbochargers it's a beast
Good review, WRONG FINAL CHOICE! All of you reviewers have it wrong. When you purchase a vehicle your #1 priority is the ride and handling of a vehicle, not what is practical. What would you choose if you had to marry it?😆
have one too. i dont know why people sometimes complain about the fuel consumption it has a lot of power. A fair comparison will be to do it with vehicles of the same horse power.
7 inch soldier Wether he was correct or not, that doesn't matter to me. I know the exact numbers just by a little research just as you did. I have my own reasons to buy as I'd like. To be quiet honest the Rogue is more appealing to me then the Escape, RAV4, CRV, etc. so thanks for the info but I could of done it myself.
MPG in the teens in a 2.0 Escape? I can’t imagine it unless you hold it to the floor every time you take off. I’ve owned a 2015 Escape AWD for two years with the 2.0 and I’ve never seen under 26mpg. I always get over 30mpg on any trip and have seen as high as 36mpg. (I do always use premium fuel although Ford doesn’t require it, in the eco-boost engines.)
I know this old, but I still see comments like this in newer vids. They drive these cars alot harder than we would normally do. So they're going to see worse average mileage. But they have to put the vehicles to test to get a better review. Look up a website called fuelly. You can see reports of what ever vehicle and engine option. All done by regular people. The over all average for the 2.0 on there is 25mpg. With some showing up to 30. Some as low at 14. But you can click it and many will show what conditions they drive the most in to help you see what makes the economy hit happen
Comparing a refreshed model with an All New model is simply NOT FAIR! IMO. Other than that, the CR-V is really a great SUV and I really like its front end, especially in dark gray!
There are a couple of comparo videos and articles on those two. CX5 looks better and feels faster, but the CRV is actually faster, even in the slalom, while being roomier, more powerful, and more efficient.
I bought a 2017 Escape SE 2.0 front wheel drive use with 30,000 miles, 19" wheels, blind spot, large touch screen, and power rear gate in 09/2019 for $17,200, That same CRV as in an EX model would have cost about $22,000 plus. Go Ford !! Fun and fast ! Oh EX and EXL CRV's had a pretty bad oil consumption issued due to turbo pressure. So if you're a CRV owner CHECK THE OIL ! Honda IS fixing this issue under a warranty.
i actually owned 2014 Escape 2.0 ecoboost and the power was amazing. But the car was uncomfortable on interstates and the value really dropped significantly. I wish Honda had balls and offer an engine with 245+ hp.
The 10 year old Escape is still better than the CR-V, especially in the power and transmission department. I hope Honda ditches the CVT soon, it is a terrible transmission. The Escape feels more road bumps due to its sport tuned suspension, it isn't a touring suspension like the CR-V. Now the Escape is dated, but I still purchased one because it's still a better driving, more powerful, and more European styled vehicle.
Agreed....I got a 2014 1.6 SE 2 years after new for $14k and it's still going strong. Kills the mileage too at 31-32mpg 50/50, so yeah, same here. I don't need to puff my chest for a popular name plate over price.
Like the European premium look and surely better rearward visibility (look at the C pillars) of the Ford but the Honda's more well rounded. 27mpg in the city with the Honda is quite good for this class.
I agree with your assessment of these two very good small SUV crossovers. However Ford is offering rebates at purchase off their products bringing pricing closer to the CR-V on similarly equipped vehicles. Honda is not bargaining as much with their CR-V's as they are very popular. Honda can let the buyer bid as they are moving the CR-v's out of the lots fairly well, even the base LX models. I like the CR-V interior however can live with the Escape "barbarism" interior. The Escape larger engine is certainly a hoot, but with mileage just a mpg or two north of a full sized Jeep Cherokee, and costing as much for the base, well equipped Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, you have to ask why.
Excellent review. I see driven both and I agree with every word. It comes down to preference. The Escape is more fun if s drive and has a panoramic sunroof option that the CR-V does not. Those two things are make or break for me. However , I do admit the more practical option is the CR-V , especially because of it's space and fuel economy.
OK just for the record the mpg on the Escape, he listed is not the true #s. I have a 2018 Escape Titanium 2.0L AWD. I have been on 2 road trips to date my average MPG clocked in at 26.2. Which debunks his report and EPA's #s. We are talking speeds of 65-75 MPH during both trips and having several small towns to pass through dropping speeds to a slow 30 MPH, one trip was 110 miles one way the second trip 145 miles one way. Passing in the Escape cannot be beat, the throttle is very responsive and if not paying attention can get away from you (both hands on the wheel! :) !!) It sort of took me by surprise I wasn't expecting the feedback to be, let's say a bit of an adrenaline rush!. lol. I have approx 995 miles on my odometer, So! this car is still in the break-in stage, over time I am expecting the #s to increase by at least 1-2 mpg respectfully. I looked at the CR-V, CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, I did not even consider the RAV-4, just because it is just plain UGLY and too much cheap inter materials for the price of the others. Not sure what the Toyota SUV design team are thinking. But Toyotas are just not appealing anymore esp their SUV's, The 4 Runner was one of the best now it is just average. I had a 2006 CR-V and loved everything about the vehicle, So can't go wrong with a Honda. When it came down to the final 2 it was the CX-5 and Escape. Mostly due to the driving dynamics. Handling and ride. Escape had the most technology of all of them. The new Sync is a breeze to work, and now! Apple and Android play adaptable. The CX-5 (Mazda does not offer Android or Apple Car play). But! as far as interior the CX-5 was the front-runner, All leather soft panels upscale, one you would find in luxury brands, So! Mazda got an A+ in that category, Mazda does not offer panoramic sunroofs in their vehicles! so a grade point of C-) Ford! B+,(only because the back door panels are hard upscale plastic.) Seating Mazda had the best! bolster support (thigh and torso) were much better than all other ones. AS far as looks (exterior/interior) Well! no competition Mazda! wins! by a landslide. Ford Escape took 2nd place on exterior The decision came down to towing So! being a back to nature guy (camping lake etc.. Hauling trailers etc. have a Jet Ski and I need a vehicle that can tow, Ford was the far front-runner in this cat. 3500LBS, No others manufacturer cam close to this #. (This is only with the 2.0L Ecoboost engine of course) Which as I mentioned a sweet engine, more than enough power for an SUV of this size, many states too much power. . But! Hey! I am loving IT! Again looking at all of them side by side the Escape and CX-5 are the best ooking ones in the segment for different reasons, Sporty looks/styling CX-5, more suddle goes to Escape.
CR-V had no get up and go vs the Escape, but that’s also why it gets better gas mileage. I miss a few features of my CR-V but love my Escape more. The infotainment unit on the CR-V was horrendously outdated, awful to use, and would disconnect from my phone ALL the time. The dealership was less than helpful on trying to fix any issues. Escape’s infotainment unit is where it’s at! Plus since the smart plug was at the bottom of the center console, underneath the stuff you’d naturally put in a center console it was inconvenient and irritating to use, Escapes is much more convenient and thought out. 😆❤️👌
Sure you'd "take" it, but if you were limited on funds and actually had to buy one, the Escape wins. Tough to find a 5 year old Honda anything for less than a brand new competitor. Their resale is truly inflated due to years of great engineering and reliability. The others have caught up and are a better deal by far, especially young used.
It's fucking amazing how big, spacious, powerful, efficient, the new hondas are. It destroys the 1.5 ecoboost in terms of power, efficiency, and reliability even though the CR-V is bigger and slightly heavier. Acura build quality at Honda prices. Amazing.
Oso 11 Yeah of course, but is it always good to be lighter? Except that light always save money in anyways. But for styling, sometimes big thus heavy would look nice as well, not to mention usually larger means more comfortable. It even answers why CRV is more spacious while it's shorter: cuz it puts small and light stuff inside. I heard that the back seats are not very comfortable in CR-V
Pricing isn't exactly accurate when you add in dealer incentives and the financing charge 6 years at Honda costs you 4.5% interest where ford has 0% quite often so that's about the 4000$ in the price difference ..... And you can buy the same escape with out leather and nav for 35 000 at 0% with winter tires, rims and sensors $750 off destination charges. Also can Honda start their car with your smart phone? I don't know but ford does .
WOW! I'm looking now and find the Escape a tleast 4K more expensive!! Ford charges 1300 bucks extra for the adaptive cruise control package and is STD in the CRV. CRV goes for 27k and Escape for 31K ... Hello CRV!
If you;re comparing power ration than you guys should've pick the 1.5T of the Escape vs. the CRV 1.5T for a fair companion. However, even without the 2.0T power of the escape the CRV still win this comparison test. Lastly, the escape will drop in resale value.
Only reason I would choose a Escape over the CRV is the transmission. Why did Honda put that lousy CVT transmission in it starting in 2015. For this reason only I would choose the escape. Pre 2015 I lean slightly towards the CRV
matt34003434 I think the Crv would benefit from being tuned to take premium, but Nana would have kittens if she couldn’t use regular when filling up at costco.
What about the 1.5 Ecoboost? I have the 2017 Ecoboost 1.5...i have to say after months (so far) of owning it, Im getting an average of 28mpg and it last exactly 8 days between every fill up. I have to say my Escape is 4WD as well, so for a SUV that has 4WD and weighs in at around 4,700 pounds, getting 28MPG isnt that bad lol....not only that but the Escape has more technology specs such as auto stop/start, active grill shutters, Android Auto+apple car play, sirusxm, and much more...the rear seats even recline back lol...are you kidding me? lol
D.J. Wheaton I got it by comparing features from similar cars to Lexus cars and Lexus WAY overcharges for their features like a sunroof, AWD, and more. Sorry that the truth hurts 💁
Neat comparison, AutoGuide! Personally, I would go for the more spacious, ergonomic, and stylish CR-V. The Escape seems to remind me of a budget vehicle at times. While, the Escape seems just a step behind the CR-V in its more upscale features. By no means, both vehicles are great. Buyers just have to weigh the pros and cons, and see which they favor or dislike more. I cannot wait to conduct my full in-depth review of these CUV's. Keep it up! 👍 DriveAndBeDriven 🚘 "The Quest To Record The Best!" 📽
in my country escape is a budget vehicle for the 2017 escape you will e paying something aroud 16,500$ and for the 2017 CRV 25,000$ this is aftermarket price and most of the cars sold are from usa actions, Im from Honduras
If you don't want to be late for work and picking up your kids after school, get the CRV. The Escape will take a run to the dealership or garage for repair more too often.
I have a 2014 escape, with the turbo. I love it, gets 27 mph on the highway all the time
I've gotten mine to push 34 on the highway with 93 octane.
How much is that going fault???
My 2014 Escape 1.6T gets 31 mpg all day on my work/kid commutes and just got 35 mpg on a 1000 mile vacation. Recently got from my wife since she needed a minivan and was pleasantly surprised coming from her normal 24-25mpg average before I got it. Pre 2015 the CRV might be better but after that they went to the CVT transmission which is crap.

Love my 17 Escape... hopefully I will be able to experience the CRV somewhere.
have one too. i dont know why people sometimes complain about the fuel consumption it has a lot of power. A fair comparison will be to do it with vehicles of the same horse power.
Shoulda had Craig do this video.
No. He did just fine and stuck to facts.
Christopher Walken i also prefer Craig.
Christopher Walken would normally agree but I loved this comparison. Way more detailed and really helped consumers with there choice
Escape looks the best and runs the best. Way more power and fun.The honda cant even tow anything.
The Honda is a weak little girly car
guy proulx Resale value is big but if you love the vehicle it doesn't matter. What recall for fire hazard? I haven't saw it.
7 inch soldier I'll check it out! Thanks for the info. Either way I think the Escape is better looking and I would choose it over a CRV.
guy proulx Your point is...? Idc that theCRV has all these things. I don't need luxury, I want what I like.
Reading comments as I watch video as usual.
Are you sure the lump at the seat isn't something else?
I say fire all of the other presenters and just give Craig a massive pay increase and let him do every vehicle! He's the best:)
I'm starting to wonder where Craig went.
05Forenza same here.
Kilometer speedo and CN Tower in the distance. Is AutoGuide based out of Toronto now?
Escape pls, thanks
You should compare against the Escape with the smaller engine instead.
If buy it new, the CRV if used Escape. also the Escape is a way more confortable than a CRV it have less gadget.
Finally someone who gets it! You can get alot more car for the money when buying an Escape used.
The CRV is all new? In what universe?
Compare the 2017 CR-V vs 2017 CX-5
AlexTheGreat Stay tuned...
There are a couple of comparo videos and articles on those two. CX5 looks better and feels faster, but the CRV is actually faster, even in the slalom, while being roomier, more powerful, and more efficient.
The escape is a lot better. I DRIVE ONE
Galaxy fanboy
XboxCarsForza I actually love chevy more than ford. I don't drive one now, I got a Equinox!!
like you drove a crv
I test drove a 2017 crv, I loved it but that cvt just annoyed me. I'll stick to an 06 crv
ford escape front design looks like hyundai santa fe
I bought a 2017 Escape SE 2.0 front wheel drive use with 30,000 miles, 19" wheels, blind spot, large touch screen, and power rear gate in 09/2019 for $17,200, That same CRV as in an EX model would have cost about $22,000 plus. Go Ford !! Fun and fast ! Oh EX and EXL CRV's had a pretty bad oil consumption issued due to turbo pressure. So if you're a CRV owner CHECK THE OIL ! Honda IS fixing this issue under a warranty.
please do a crv vs cx5 comparison 2017 version
i actually owned 2014 Escape 2.0 ecoboost and the power was amazing.
Escape all the way!!!!!? Yeah top end Escape is 38k but you can get the 4 cylinder for 20-23k......so whatever on the price thing.
6:46 Wtf is that ring??
definitely a girls hand haha
Watch the original Stargate movie. Should answer your question ;)
My Mom Just Got A Ford
Escape it’s A Gold White Color
The Escape looks two dimensional. Only it's face is handsome.
Why were they listening to freak me by silk in the escape? 4:03
Agree with the conclusion
For the love of internet kittens, please stop playing background music through your entire videos!
B+,(only because the back door panels are hard upscale plastic.)
Seating Mazda had the best! bolster support (thigh and torso) were much better than all other ones.
AS far as looks (exterior/interior) Well! no competition Mazda! wins! by a landslide. Ford Escape took 2nd place on exterior
The decision came down to towing So! being a back to nature guy (camping lake etc..
Chuck S finally, the truth!
it is quite obvious, by now, the 2017 Honda CR-V is the best cross-over 'SUV' in 2017
I'm a Ford guy, but I'd probably take the CR-V
Insane.
Check who wins in the end escape crv engine troubles
It's fucking amazing how big, spacious, powerful, efficient, the new hondas are. It destroys the 1.5 ecoboost in terms of power, efficiency, and reliability even though the CR-V is bigger and slightly heavier. Acura build quality at Honda prices. Amazing.
Chris Sorreda what ? the crv is 200-500 lbs lighter than the escape....
Ford doesn't have a 1.5 Ecoboost engine.
Crv 😎
CR-V all day.
Hello CRV!
It's all his opinion
If you;re comparing power ration than you guys should've pick the 1.5T of the Escape vs. the CRV 1.5T for a fair companion. However, even without the 2.0T power of the escape the CRV still win this comparison test. Lastly, the escape will drop in resale value.
Only reason I would choose a Escape over the CRV is the transmission. Why did Honda put that lousy CVT transmission in it starting in 2015. For this reason only I would choose the escape. Pre 2015 I lean slightly towards the CRV
My biggest beef with these new age compact cars and CUV are the tiny displacement (
matt34003434 I think the Crv would benefit from being tuned to take premium, but Nana would have kittens if she couldn’t use regular when filling up at costco.
2017 Honda CR-V vs 2017 Ford Escape
I have 2018 Crv and never enable Econ mode.
Why
What song is in the background?
I like the escape better
What about the 1.5 Ecoboost? I have the 2017 Ecoboost 1.5...i have to say after months (so far) of owning it, Im getting an average of 28mpg and it last exactly 8 days between every fill up. I have to say my Escape is 4WD as well, so for a SUV that has 4WD and weighs in at around 4,700 pounds, getting 28MPG isnt that bad lol....not only that but the Escape has more technology specs such as auto stop/start, active grill shutters, Android Auto+apple car play, sirusxm, and much more...the rear seats even recline back lol...are you kidding me? lol
Ford escape all the way.
honda wins hands down
honda? no f'n way. have a 09 escape and it pretty bad ass
2011 Escape here.
ESCAPE❤❤❤❤
$38k for an Escape?! With that money you can get a Lexus NX which is superior in every aspect.
Nima Bahrehdar A Lexus has never been superior except for ripping ppl off
Lexus is number one in reliability all around. They're cars are practically indestructible so watch your mouth on how you speak on Lexus.
Ryan V Where get that? Out of your ass?
D.J. Wheaton I got it by comparing features from similar cars to Lexus cars and Lexus WAY overcharges for their features like a sunroof, AWD, and more. Sorry that the truth hurts 💁
Lookout Cam Oh really, how does 1 issue justify for every Lexus? Sorry but Lexus is number 1. Give the Ford some time it will become junk.
Keep it up! 👍

"The Quest To Record The Best!" 📽
in my country escape is a budget vehicle for the 2017 escape you will e paying something aroud 16,500$ and for the 2017 CRV 25,000$ this is aftermarket price and most of the cars sold are from usa actions, Im from Honduras
If you don't want to be late for work and picking up your kids after school, get the CRV. The Escape will take a run to the dealership or garage for repair more too often.
CR-V FTW.
You haven't broken out of the teens with yours? How? I avrage 24.5 in my 2018 Escape Titanium with the 2.0.
