    On the east coast we put the “v” detail down so it becomes the ceiling, loft floor would be flat. Interesting differences between the west and east coasts.

    I don’t think I would cut the over hang off on the flooring TNG. Not until you put up the banister.
    You find you like that over hang as a decorative shelf on the outside of the banister.

    The grooves are just decorative, they are meant to be seen from the underside or on your wall. If you are using them as flooring then the flat side always goes uppermost because it simplifies cleaning, a shame Mrs W didn't notice in time because you wouldn't have realised the issue. I hope just like the misaligned power panel that you'll correct this 🙂

    • @kricketjoy
      @kricketjoy 14 днів тому

      I really, really dislike our log home. It is beautiful and cozy, but everything eats it. It’s going to be a lifetime chore chasing the critters that want to gobble up my home. The settling has opened up cracks in the logs that need to regularly be chinked. Wood roaches are the worst. We finally got ahold on the rodent problem, but I expect to have to replace the poison in the crawl space regularly, even though it’s supposedly “sealed.” We never had anything like this at our slab traditional built house. Nothing got in that sucker. Even though I love this property I find it very hard to be okay with staying here forever. I know how much money is going to be thrown away every year between the pest control, chinking, and refinishing the logs every seven to ten years. The upkeep is just more money than I want to constantly spend.

    We used the same decking for the second floor of my childhood log home. It was awesome, but milled incorrectly so they didn't meet up properly when we put them together, resulting in an uneven surface between each board on the topside. It got carpeted, so you don't see it now, but looks great from below.

    Cody, you may want to consider using BX(sheilded) cable and leaving the Romex for another project. Romex can be chewed by Rodents and can get a bit warm for dry timber making your cabin a giant tinderbox. Just a suggestion. Here in NYC BX cable is required because of rats. I may be an eastcoast sh-thouse handyman but i know a few things because here, an error in judgment can be deadly for all who live above, below, and all sides of the job site. That is an on comming conflict that can certainly be avoided.

    I have to point this out but you installed that T@G upside down 🙃. I’ve milled and installed countless board feet of T@G and with that chamfer being as big as it is will be a dirt collector for a floor. Now there are a million ways to skin a cat as it were so I won’t hold it against you.😊 The only time Ive have seen a chamfer up like that is on prefinished engineered flooring. With just the tiniest bevel. But no harm still looks wonderful and the chances of you ever having to resand and finish that loft flooring are slim to none.
    P.S Great work with the chainsaw, A straight cut freehand is hard enough but with a chainsaw, that shows talent.
