The Philippines should stop giving government projects to Chinese contractors. The Philippines should also start decreasing reliance on China by slowly starting to find alternative trade partners for different products. When the Philippines don't rely on China for anything and when the Philippines stop giving money to the Chinese contractors, then the Philippines would have already won without a drop of blood. That is how you defeat China. China's economy is already in trouble and the normal Chinese citizen is already struggling including their pension system. If you stop relying on China and stop doing business with China, they will start collapsing from within.

I live on the west coast of Palawan and operated a small fishing boat and then passenger boat for tourism from 2005 - 2014. When I first started, the sea was so alive with big schools of fish, dolphin, turtles and sea birds. I went out to the Spratlies a couple times for fishing, and I woke up at dawn to find hundreds of dolphins swimming every which way all around my tiny little boat feeding on schools of tuna. It was the most amazing sight ever! Shortly after that the Chinese moved in and from then on, the schools of fish and sea birds have all disappeared, and it looks like a dead sea.
That is China's objective in the first place which is to wipe out fishes in the area since they think fishing is the only basis Filipinos have for that area!

The metric for sizing a navy is tonnage, not number of ships, having a dozen of corvettes is not a match for having 6 destroyers. The US Navy is nearly three times the size of the Chinese Navy in terms of tonnage, and in terms of deliverable missile payload, the gap is even bigger. China is building a lot, but it has a big gap to close.
@@elmohead The fact that naval strategy is “built strategy” means that you can’t just overcome your deficiencies once you get into a war, because navies take a long time to build & staff.
Any armed conflict in the region would come from only one country, China. China is in violation of UNCLOS and despite losing the case in an international tribunal, China continues its unlawful and highly provocative behavior in international waters and economic exclusion zones of other countries. However, if China starts a kinetic war in the region, it will definitely lose more in the long run not only in military terms, but it may also find itself isolated on the international stage politically and economically because of its contempt for international norms of behavior. If China's neighbors and the international community firmly stand up to China's lawlessness, China may reconsider its position and abide by UNCLOS.

The Philippines' claims in the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea) are supported by a robust foundation of historical treaties, international law, and geographical factors: 1. Historical Boundaries: - Treaty of Paris (1898): Defined the initial boundaries of the Philippines, including areas up to 118 degrees east longitude in the West Philippine Sea. Spain ceded the Philippines to the United States for $20 million. - Treaty of Washington (1900): Also known as the Spanish-American Treaty of Friendship and General Relations, it ceded additional islands to the U.S. that were not explicitly included in the Treaty of Paris. - Cession Treaty between Spain and the US (1900): Signed in November, this treaty transferred any remaining Spanish possessions in the Philippine archipelago to the United States, ensuring comprehensive territorial coverage. - US-UK Convention (1930): Also known as the Treaty of Washington of 1930, this agreement further clarified the territorial boundaries of the Philippines, particularly in relation to British North Borneo (now part of Malaysia). 2. United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS): - The Philippines ratified UNCLOS in 1984, granting it rights as a signatory nation. - UNCLOS provides for a 12 nautical mile territorial sea and a 200 nautical mile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) from the coastal baseline. - The EEZ grants the Philippines sovereign rights for exploring, exploiting, conserving, and managing natural resources in this area. 3. International Recognition: - The 2016 Permanent Court of Arbitration Ruling in The Hague overwhelmingly favored the Philippines' position. - The ruling invalidated China's "nine-dash line" claim and affirmed the Philippines' rights within its EEZ. - It also clarified the status of various maritime features, determining that none of the Spratly Islands are legally "islands" capable of generating their own EEZ. 4. Geographical Factors: - Proximity and continuity: Many of the disputed features are significantly closer to the Philippines than to other claimant countries. - The principle of continuity of territory supports the Philippines' claims, as these areas can be seen as natural prolongations of the Philippine archipelago. 5. National Legislation: - Republic Act 3046 (1961), amended by Republic Act 5446 (1968): These laws defined the Philippines' territorial sea baselines, incorporating the Treaty of Paris limits. - Presidential Decree No. 1596 (1978): Established the Kalayaan Island Group as part of Philippine territory, asserting sovereignty over these features in the West Philippine Sea. - Republic Act 9522 (2009): Defined the Philippines' archipelagic baselines and maritime zones in alignment with UNCLOS, including areas in the West Philippine Sea. This law aimed to harmonize domestic legislation with international maritime law. 6. Traditional Usage: - Historical fishing rights: Filipino fishermen have operated in these waters for generations, establishing a pattern of traditional use. - This long-standing practice supports claims based on historical usage and cultural connection to the area. These six points, supported by both historical documents and modern legal frameworks, collectively form the basis of the Philippines' claims in the West Philippine Sea. They demonstrate a continuous line of sovereignty and rights from the late 19th century to the present day, encompassing historical cession, international law, geographical realities, traditional usage, and national legislation. The Philippine government maintains that its claims are consistent with international law and are vital for protecting its national interests, including economic resources, maritime security, and territorial integrity. Ongoing discussions and negotiations at bilateral and multilateral levels aim to peacefully resolve these disputes while upholding the principles of international law and regional stability.

This is just sad
That is China's objective in the first place which is to wipe out fishes in the area since they think fishing is the only basis Filipinos have for that area!

The metric for sizing a navy is tonnage, not number of ships, having a dozen of corvettes is not a match for having 6 destroyers. The US Navy is nearly three times the size of the Chinese Navy in terms of tonnage, and in terms of deliverable missile payload, the gap is even bigger. China is building a lot, but it has a big gap to close.
It should be measured through displacement as well. The US has more in this case.

The Philippines' claims in the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea) are supported by a robust foundation of historical treaties, international law, and geographical factors:
1. Historical Boundaries:
- Treaty of Paris (1898): Defined the initial boundaries of the Philippines, including areas up to 118 degrees east longitude in the West Philippine Sea.
2. United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS):
- The Philippines ratified UNCLOS in 1984, granting it rights as a signatory nation.
3. International Recognition:
- The 2016 Permanent Court of Arbitration Ruling in The Hague overwhelmingly favored the Philippines' position.
- The ruling invalidated China's "nine-dash line" claim and affirmed the Philippines' rights within its EEZ.
- It also clarified the status of various maritime features, determining that none of the Spratly Islands are legally "islands" capable of generating their own EEZ.
4. Geographical Factors:
- Proximity and continuity: Many of the disputed features are significantly closer to the Philippines than to other claimant countries.
- The principle of continuity of territory supports the Philippines' claims, as these areas can be seen as natural prolongations of the Philippine archipelago.
5. National Legislation:
- Republic Act 3046 (1961), amended by Republic Act 5446 (1968): These laws defined the Philippines' territorial sea baselines, incorporating the Treaty of Paris limits.
6. Traditional Usage:
- Historical fishing rights: Filipino fishermen have operated in these waters for generations, establishing a pattern of traditional use.

Yes more yrs Philippines will become the strongest in south east asia.philippines was more trained than the Chinese when it comes in comebat
Dreaming. PH will always be the weakest in Asia. Poor and weak.
I can't really see the point other Filipinos saying they will defend the island and should not let the bully bullied you. I mean its okay for other situation but this matter is way different. If the war break out are fellow Filipinos even willing to be deployed to defend the country against China? Most people keep saying that Philippine has a lot friends. Are you even sure that they will help when that day happen aside from donating aide? They better reflect what's happening to Ukraine now. I am a Filipino but if the cost of this war are the lives of many Filipinos then I am willing to let go the island instead and our government should look for other ways to improve the country. We can always be like Singapore if we have the right leaders with great mindset and loves the country so much.
And the other day the get another island
Chinese are interrupting his signal 😂😂😂😂

Then Chinese Government claimed South China Sea ,Philippine no existed yet, only thousand tribes 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.go check Philippine history 👏👏👏👏👏.Guam locals in Philippine sea,👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍Filipinos go get it (what will happen?)🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
UNCLOS, Continental Shelves & EEZs is the name of the game. Historical events are not constant. History tells us that conquerors come and go, territories come and go. Massive continental movements involving millions of years can occur but these catastrophic events dictates a new continental shelf therefore new EEZs.@@carltan1526
@@carltan1526 On 12 July 2016, an arbitral tribunal concluded that China's claim of historic rights over high seas has no lawful effect where they exceed the terms of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). One of the arguments was that China had not exercised exclusive control over these waters and resources. so how tf do they own it when they have not done any activity in those waters until then.
Mam i am a indigent stroke p.w.d Filipino, im so worried in what was going on in South China Sea or West Philippine Sea. War is destructive to mankind and other living things. World War 2 history.Peace is what we need. thank you..
So giving in this case or scenario, how would you maintain peace? Please specify your plan so our government will follow your advice.
Tell that China. Its China who want to go to war.
Tell that China. Its China who want to go to war.
Upgrading the Mutual Defense Treaty (the Manila Treaty of 1951) to a Compact of Free Association between the Philippines and the United States is the obvious best solution for the purpose of deterring further PRC cartographic aggression.
What the communists don't understand or know is the Philippines is a red line foe the USA. We don't fight just for economic power. We fight for freedom
PH and USA can talk about all the defense treaty they want and China do not give any fcuk to the treaty. That treaty is btwn USA and PH. In asia, USA can forget about fighting with chinese as they will lose badly.
But those islands are disputed territory not Philippines territory. It is actually Vietnam that occupies the most islands in disputed Spratly Islands. Taiwan’s 11 dash line is even larger than China’s 9 dash line.
Eez is not Philippines territory. It's international waters. Eez Entitlement to resources does not meant entitlement to the territory of others.
@@LeeSkJohn-sv8wi who claimed it did? thank you for bringing this up on your program. 🇵🇭
It will be a David Vs Goliath battle like all these networks are saying. Us Filipinos will come out on top.
Like in the Korean War, Vietnam War, Afghanistan War, Iraq War. . . Ah! The Ukraine War. How's that going? Next in line, Philippines.
USA Will not let China to grab Philippines territory just like that USA will come to the rescue you will see
China has so many territorial disputes with many neighboring countries, even Japan, and India, etc.
China lost 1/5 of its land in the last 120 years
China have not try to use Military Force to recover it

@@carltan1526 yes. Even when Spain and USA ruled philipines, they do not owned SCS. They specifically stated Philippines territorial limits in the treaty of Paris and Washington. None in spratlies Scarborough and China's SCS.
That's why there was no conflict until Philippines under Marcos stole China's spratlies in the 70s.
I'm from philippines thank you for bringing up this issue
China never did bullying to Philippines during the reign of Apo Lakay, the father of our Elected President BB Marcos. This incident happens just recently after Dutertes administration.
I believe you were born yesterday to comment as it is. During the Marcos Sr., the US is guarding the vast ocean in the South China Sea/West Philippine Sea. And until its expulsion during the term of Cory Aquino. The bullying started during the presidency of Noynoy Aquino and its Obama friend in 2012. The illegal construction of islands began in that era as well. Eventually, the bullying was dramatically lessened if not stopped when Duterte assumed office and its US counterpart Donald Trump. So don't twist the story.

Its pretty clever Richard incorporating humor on such serious topic, very nice of you Richard
Good useful talk with educated and friendly guests. Thanks DW!
I find the "poll" moot. Isn't there already conflict between China and the Phillipines, and China and Taiwan already?
The Philippines is not crossing the line and we just stand firmly only for our own territory..we don't want war and we are peace advocates..
The statement made by president marcos is as accurate as it can be. Few decades ago the mistake of a service man which president marcos referring to was committed by china against Vietnamese sailors. The same action is the primary concern of the Philippines because china is known to escalate in favor of their claim. If the same incident happens in the west Philippine sea there will be tremendous consequences for the world not only for the Philippines, and that's why Filipinos are starting to prepare for the worst.
Meaning preparing for the unfortunate action that china will cause.
To arms.. period
there can be no peace if you can never defend
Nobody wins in war. Why can't we just be friends? 😢
But friends don't do those things to a friend.
You can't be friends with someone who bullies you.
Thank you for this conversation. Our position in the West Philippines Sea gets its attention not only within SEA but there in Europe.
No such thing as WPS.

The issue I believe is not the historical claim but by the united nation law of the sea .treaty must be respect. All historical claim was already superseded by by the UNCLOS treaty.
dont be silly. UNCLOS has no jurisdiction over sovereignty and terrorital claims. Only martime. Who are you kidding.
Historical claim. In 1946 when Philippines became a country? Or carbon dated document from Tang Dynasty of naming the islands that the two Japanese judges ignored?
Backing from behind is a mighty country that's not even signatory to the "law of the sea."
1946 is to freed the Philippines but on the intl map law the history of the Philippines has recorded early as 1700 or early map that what Philippines own territories
@@louisevaldez3751 British whaling captain Richard Spratly sighted Spratly Island in 1843. Philippines became "a country" in 1946. But if you're going to go that direction. Then Compared it to China's 900A.D. record when they were named Nansha (the Spratly Islands) and Xisha (the Paracel Islands). Philippines doesn't get to win by using history. You get to win when you have bias Japanese judges to decide it in UNCLOS.
I'll give you another example. Playing in front of our very eyes, we see how UN can't even stop the genocide in Gaza because of the powerful veto by the United States. Is it right? Same baloney.
