The Philippines should stop giving government projects to Chinese contractors. The Philippines should also start decreasing reliance on China by slowly starting to find alternative trade partners for different products. When the Philippines don't rely on China for anything and when the Philippines stop giving money to the Chinese contractors, then the Philippines would have already won without a drop of blood. I live on the west coast of Palawan and operated a small fishing boat and then passenger boat for tourism from 2005 - 2014. When I first started, the sea was so alive with big schools of fish, dolphin, turtles and sea birds. I went out to the Spratlies a couple times for fishing, and I woke up at dawn to find hundreds of dolphins swimming every which way all around my tiny little boat feeding on schools of tuna. It was the most amazing sight ever! Shortly after that the Chinese moved in and from then on, the schools of fish and sea birds have all disappeared, and it looks like a dead sea.
That is China's objective in the first place which is to wipe out fishes in the area since they think fishing is the only basis Filipinos have for that area!

The US Failed in detering China from the Scarborough Shoals and it's one of the reason why Duerte tried to befriend China and abandon the US. If the US doesn't do anything about the spratley Islands and just let the Chinese settle there like they let them in the Scarborough Shoals... Chinese navy sail to south china sea to receive surrender by Japanese under Allied supreme commands in 1947. They occupy the Taiping island. Declare sovereign over Spratly Island. In 1947, Philippine was not a sovereign state. It is an US colony (US. defeat Spain in Spanish American war). When China made its claim, there simply no sovereign state around south china sea other than China. All other country we saw today were western colony. They are not sovereign states.

The Philippines should also start decreasing reliance on China by slowly starting to find alternative trade partners for different products. When the Philippines don't rely on China for anything and when the Philippines stop giving money to the Chinese contractors, then the Philippines would have already won without a drop of blood. That is how you defeat China. China's economy is already in trouble and the normal Chinese citizen is already struggling including their pension system. If you stop relying on China and stop doing business with China, they will start collapsing from within.

I live on the west coast of Palawan and operated a small fishing boat and then passenger boat for tourism from 2005 - 2014.
When I first started, the sea was so alive with big schools of fish, dolphin, turtles and sea birds.
I went out to the Spratlies a couple times for fishing, and I woke up at dawn to find hundreds of dolphins swimming every which way all around my tiny little boat feeding on schools of tuna.
It was the most amazing sight ever!
Shortly after that the Chinese moved in and from then on, the schools of fish and sea birds have all disappeared, and it looks like a dead sea.

The metric for sizing a navy is tonnage, not number of ships, having a dozen of corvettes is not a match for having 6 destroyers. The US Navy is nearly three times the size of the Chinese Navy in terms of tonnage, and in terms of deliverable missile payload, the gap is even bigger. China is building a lot, but it has a big gap to close.
It should be measured through displacement as well. The US has more in this case.

The laws governing international waters, established by the UN, were not in place when China made its claims. The south china sea island was controlled by Japan during world war II. Chinese navy sail to south china sea to receive surrender by Japanese under Allied supreme commands in 1947. They occupy the Taiping island. Declare sovereign over Spratly Island. In 1947, Philippine was not a sovereign state. It is an US colony (US. defeat Spain in Spanish American war). When China made its claim, there simply no sovereign state around south china sea other than China. All other country we saw today were western colony. They are not sovereign states.

Upgrading the Mutual Defense Treaty (the Manila Treaty of 1951) to a Compact of Free Association between the Philippines and the United States is the obvious best solution for the purpose of deterring further PRC cartographic aggression.

And until its expulsion during the term of Cory Aquino. The bullying started during the presidency of Noynoy Aquino and its Obama friend in 2012.
