8:12 Brahms' repressed feelings come to light after being hidden for so many years. His insecurity as a composer, especially having Beethoven as his predecessor. All of his resentment towards modern musicians, who accused him of going backwards in his ideas of music. His unrequited loves, his loneliness in old age...
I must admit. I'm a bit of a Beethoven fan boy so I've never really given Brahms the time, credit or attention he rightly deserves.... After listening to every last drop of this though... Wow! What a performance! Absolutely superb.
Yes just lovely in my opinion, too. Precise but rich, and the sound quality is fantastic. Love the camera work as well. I sent this one to a friend of mine who has fallen in love with french horn solos, as it really highlights them in this video.
Sad, pensive yet true...Reminds one of the country song "Love Me Like You Used To" by Tanya Tucker...in fact, for effect, and in the interests of mixing genres (as one would a magic potion), these two pieces should be played together....
Stunningly good performance. The conductor is simply amazing.

I love that the timpani player must retune in this relatively quiet moment.
compares favorably with some of the best interpretations I've heard.

I would suggest the opening horns should be a little softer. Also, later they don't hold out the full notes.
