What a great interview! Two class acts and talented musicians! Huge Lee sklar fan! Seen him play so many times with James Taylor and Jackson Browne and section 8! What a bassist as is John! Loved the conversation about all the past players and all the good stuff that you never hear. What a blessing tx to Lee and John!
"How about that foreskin???"…at 33:09…..hahaa! I love it! They`re greats! What I really dig is what Sklar said: He always wants to let other people/musicians good so he likes to give compliments - one of the best rules for human encounters one could ever give. Not just musicians. Thank god for UA-cam, and Warwick!
Two extremely influential musicians reliving a past golden era of music recording culture in LA that would be difficult for the average person to know much of anything about. And they talk like they don't realize we're all listening. 10/10
It's a shame this is so short. These guys could go on with gold nugget stories for days, not to mention the stuff you can pick up about character and how to carry yourself in this industry.
Seriously. A couple of soft-spoken badasses-the cats who know, know. When I was at music school, I briefly met John Patitucci in an elevator. For about 2 seconds I was starstruck, but he was just a regular guy without a shred of ego and it was totally disarming. A great encounter.
At 12:16 LMFAO Got to love Lee Sklar for his talent as a musician, versatility & the body of work he has amassed but you have to idolize him for comments like that... PRICELESS...
lol at 10:00 "he was really sad that he had gone" "hes still alive, he killed his mother" "oh" "and went to prison" (quickly changes subject) lee is great, i could listen to him talk for hours.
+Iggy Tubmen checks Lee's interview on the I'd Hit That podcast. Beautiful While you are at it, check out the interviews with Steve Ferrone and Sean Pelton. Lots of good ones.
I enjoyed this interview/dialogue immensely. Almost 35 minutes in its entirety and if you listened to some of the scenarios and name dropping within context you have to be in awe and thoroughly impressed with the careers of both of these legends. I can only imagine how many more stories that they could swap being in the business for so many years. I had absolutely no clue that Lee played bass on "Theme from Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To). His bass parts are simple, and extremely brilliant from a standpoint of providing foundation & feel. Lee can groove and funk too, & as he mentioned, w/o the slap/pop technique. Watch him live on any of the Phil Collins tours on DVD. 'Framus and Warwick' can we get some more parts to this interview? + ChrisJoyeMusic is right. I was hoping that this was a 3 or 4 part series. JP is one of THE BEST Bassplayers on the planet. Guys still study and transcribe his bass solos. You know its good when you feel like 35 minutes of information was too quick.
I really wish I could hear what makes a great bass player. I can appreciate virtuosity, technical ability and groove but I get the feeling when these guys talk about great players they mean something else. Not just feel or soul but something on a different level.
that's actually easy to answer. one word: understanding. training can give you stellar ability, but it all is worthless if you don't "get" what the song requires.
Could listen to these two talk all day, loved it.
2 of my bass heroes, thanks a lot for the video Warwick! :) Best regards from Portugal

This was a great watch, many cool stories and lots of name dropping.
Love the hug at the end, Sklar offers his hand Patitucci "are you kidding?"
Fantastic interview!
I like Warwick`s policy...doing things such as this interview that we all wanted to see years ago but nobody thought of it...good job.

Fantastic to see these 2 great players just getting on and reminicing - ignore the gear and just reliving some great experiences

17:00 So. Fucking. True!!!
17:15 rather
cool
Just Imagine if Devin Townsend would grow a similar hair and beard as Lee and they would play together! Like some epic wizards of music!
