- Slim Jim Phantom, legendary drummer of the rockabilly band Stray Cats, joined Matt Pinfield for this episode of New & Approved.
Slim Jim first tells Matt all about how he first developed an interest in music during his childhood. When he found the drums, he became addicted and couldn't stop practicing. He then talks about how the Stray Cats came together and eventually helped pioneer the neo-rockabilly movement of the 1980s.
Slim Jim takes us on a journey from how the Stray Cats went from almost homeless trying desperately to break a record deal, to exploding all over the radio and MTV. He also tells us some wild stories involving Dave Edmunds, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, and many more iconic rockstars.

Grew up 30 minutes from Stray Cats, as a little kid in 1982 i had no idea.
Watch the Stray Cats set at the US Festival from 1983. Talk about winning a crowd over. Legends.
I was there. They kind of woke up the crowd a little. It was a very early start when the first bands came on, was super hot, dusty and very smoggy and everyone was probably dehydrated that afternoon. But, when the Cats came on I seem to recall starting to get my second wind listening to them. We needed some faster rockin' tunes at that time of the day there.
