Add a spare wick and keep 4 flints inside the lighter . Use a piece of bicycle inner tube to cover the seam where the lid meets the body and this will Greatly reduce fuel loss from evaporation . The proper size inner tube with fit like a sleeve around the lighter . The inner tube will burn while floating in water or on snow . A small eye drops bottle holds enough fuel for at least 4 refills . Use Ronsonol fluid - Zippo fluid sucks and is not as pure as Ronsonol . Funny how many people just use their zippo without properly fixing the wick in a S shape, because they assumed it was good to go from the factory and all they had to do was pour in fuel :P Well, maybe we should view this as Zippo's way of telling us to f*cking get in there and learn the components and how to fix it if you want to use it. Because while Zippos last for life, they also need a fair bit of maintenance. By the way, you might want to properly prepare and write up what you want to say so that you have an idea of things beforehand. +VicariousReality7 It makes sense. If a high polish chrome zippo gets one tiny scratch, it can annoy you for months. Ike, yep they last really long though. Your best bet is to never let it run dry to avoid burning the wick. When you have to advance it only pull it up 1/8 of an inch...
The comments on this are just stupid! Why is everyone so negative? I liked it and learned something. I'm 50+ and never thought about the wick. I always kept an extra flint under the felt though. Here's another tip, don't throw away that empty disposable lighter. The flint in them last longer than Zippo replacement flints usually, you just may need to trim it down a little if it's too long.
Hello, I realize I am late to your party, but I wanted you to know that your video gave me the courage to change the wick on my slim Zippo. I had done regular sized Zippo lighters, but becausse of the small wick hole in the slim lighter I hesitated. The only things I would add is that the wick has to be twisted to about one half of its original size and it is much easier to work from the top down. It took a little time, but it finally works like new! Thanks! Keep up the great work!!!
I put a extra flint under the original flint in the zippo. The tension on the spring become Harder but thats no problems. The flint is very small and easy to use up.
I just got a zippo. Not my first by any means. I have never done this and never will. Mine works just fine. Just keep a can of fuel and a few extra flints and you will be fine.
I don't recomend doing this! I've tried it, and the flame is too strong, and my lighter runs out of fluid even faster! I will try to cut the wick in half and place it just on top and a bit on the side (forget the S shape).I think the real problem is this new zippo fluid. It is crap! I remember that old fluid (about 15 years ago) lasted much longer. I refilled my ligher every 3 weeks, now I have to refill it every week. It behaved better when windy, and it had that nice smell. Why did they have to change it?!!
+DexRares Yes, I figured that out. Well, cutting the wick (approx. 1 inch total lenght) does help. Not much, but the fluid lasts a bit longer and the flame is a bit more stable. I would still prefer the old fluid!
+Franjo Posilović You are supposed to adjust the flame by the length of the burning part of the wick if the flame is too strong for you. You can make it as small as you want. I like the wick long enough to work well in the wind and catch all the sparks for good ignition.
Hey dude, enjoyed your video, now to my problem, my Zippo keeps pushing up (the insert) when i open it a few times... is there any way to fix it? I tried out alot, but nothing is working :( shall i go to a shop and get support there?
Hello.. You can send it to Zippo for repair, but this is a problem that's appears some times. If you take a coin and pry it in the bottom of the insert and twist it, then the insert will bee widen out. That should solve the problem.
Rank One Lama Instead of widening the insert, you can also pull the insert out, and squeeze the larger sides of the case ever so slightly together. That will narrow the width of the case, and hold the insert a little tighter. I hope that helps! 😉
I dont smoke, but I have a Zippo that i found about 10 years ago and checked the wick, and yes, it was right up the top! I re packed it as on the video, so although i never use it, at least i know it's good to go if i do !
Although I see that your method would ensure the wick is "in the fuel" when it comes time to pull out more wick , you need to disassemble again . I suggest keeping the wick to one side of the insert , that way more wick can be pulled out when required. Just sayin ....
+matico tim The wick can still be pulled out regardless of how it is snaked around the rayon balls. Just grip the wick with pliers and pull. It is not as if it's anchored to a tree stump in there.
dont be rude guys obviously this man is not a native english, i think is a norway because that flag in the beginning, thats why he is so slowly pd. i not a native english
I did that to one of my lighters, and it was a good thing. When I took it apart I found that most of the wick was all around the metal sleeve that the flint fits in. Now the wick meanders throughout the packing, allowing it to better wick up the fuel.
Thanks for the tip I will do the S pattern rimbel packing now all my zippos are at the top new like you showed in the beginning of this video. You are right having the wick going all the way down to the bottom of the case makes much more sense for a more dependable light each time you strike the flint wheel.
low grade zippo, get the highest grade for the best use, have had one for over 25yrs and never had to do all that shit to it before use. good tip though is to use the flints from a bic as they are longer than zippo flints.
@@hoi5162 the armoured one's have the same insert as well, just thicker casing. The only difference is the slim which still uses the same parts but has a thinner insert
A neat trick to help keep a Zippo burning in high wind is to spread out the wick in the Flume. Doing this makes it harder for a strong gust of wind to blow it out.
Thank you for the feedback. Yes it helps, but many think this is just bullshit. So let them believe that. Glad I could help. Have a nice day, and Zippo on 😃

The only thing you can guarantee is that a Zippo lighter will ALWAYS be out of fuel when you need it most.
You should get a fuel canister, I have it and it's a life saver
+angelskates17 hmmm, seems like a lot of prep and hassle. Butane lighters will always give you a flame even when you thought they were empty.
I found that out when I went camping without matches. Ended up having to use a fresnel lens to start my fires.

I know people use 3rd party cotton. But is there any 3rd party wicks that are better than Zippo?
This guy ummmmmm, talks to slow ummmmmm and takes to long to ummmmmmm, get to the point. SO UMMMMMM ANNOYING!!
Robert Torres i bet his english is way better than your norwegian. Stop bitching around about people doing their best speaking a second language.
I bet you are just a rave at parties
And yet you took the time to compose a comment with all those m's. Lol troll
English probably isn’t his first language asshole
I've just had one given to me so that advice is helpful to know. Thank you.
thank you man! good video
+manosmack Thanks for the nice feedback
Thanks for the tip I will do the S pattern rimbel packing now all my zippos are at the top new like you showed in the beginning of this video. You are right having the wick going all the way down to the bottom of the case makes much more sense for a more dependable light each time you strike the flint wheel.
low grade zippo, get the highest grade for the best use, have had one for over 25yrs and never had to do all that shit to it before use. good tip though is to use the flints from a bic as they are longer than zippo flints.
Bic flint wears the flint wheel out, Ronson and Zippo flint are softer and spark harder.
All zippo inserts are the same, when you pay more it's just the paintjob/finish you're paying for. So what do you mean "get the highest grade" ?
@@hoi5162 the armoured one's have the same insert as well, just thicker casing. The only difference is the slim which still uses the same parts but has a thinner insert
I would assume he meant an armor zippo for the strong hinge area and thickness, the insert doesn't matter.
@@greasemonkey258 he wasn't talking about the hinges, he was talking about the stuff shown in the video like the Flint, which is the same across all
Nice video man pretty helpful!
thanks for the tip mine was all the way up

love the look on a girls face when she asks for a light and i pull out my $20 brass 1937 replica lol
I pull out my brass zippo from 1974 and it is not a replica from anything, but now its a vintage one lol
An interesting point l wonder if that will increase your burn time.
han er norsk det hører man
this is the entry in the dictionary under "7 and a half minute videos that should be 1 minute"
Thank you. Good to know.
this is not approved by TastyPoop .. this is useless
+TastyPoop Fuck Yeah!
I just bought a zippo literally just because I love fire
Hector Aguilar lol an original response thank goodness
Hector Aguilar I’m so proud of us for coming full circle😌
A neat trick to help keep a Zippo burning in high wind is to spread out the wick in the Flume. Doing this makes it harder for a strong gust of wind to blow it out.
Man-skills 101!
But why did I find this AFTER I refilled my Zippos??
In Zippo factory are a idiots when you must do that?
You can use denatured Alcohol for cleaning burning fuel
@1:31 what youre trying to say is hurry the fuck up
Thank You for showing this.
Just got my first ever Zippo as a gift. :-)

Thank you for the nice feedback. 😃 Congratulation with your lighter.
Can you still do it with used zippos?
What's the music at the beginning of the video
Every time he said wick I thought of John Wick
This is actually a good tip. Thanks
I got my hands on a few zippos that I’ve bought from a flee market. This was quite useful.
Great video! Enjoyed it very much
found a brand new zippo awhile ago and never even knew the lighter part pops out!
Hey T.B ! I ‘tuned up’ my zippo , WHAT A HUGE DIFFERENCE !! Thx again ! Keep up the good work !
Thank you for the feedback. Yes it helps, but many think this is just bullshit. So let them believe that. Glad I could help. Have a nice day, and Zippo on 😃
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I hate myself, I went to repack it and lost the flint 😭 good thing Amazon sells a pack of 12 zippo flints for like eight bucks
We have the same table
A lotta people hate the slowness and tiredness of his voice, but hey, I fuckin enjoy the ez pz listening. At least it ain’t Ali-A yelling WHAT IS UP GUYS! I HAVE JUST GOT A GOLDEN SCAR! IN FORTNITE! LET’S DO THIS!
3am, Intriguing title, probably not the same thing I'm doing with my 10-year-old Zippo... Dammit Man I know nothing of emojis and the like. I wanted to have a maniacal little cat who's playing the long game, so that not only does he get his own canary that day, but eventually every canary from every coal mine East of Ackerman Mississippi. Wait do they still use canaries living early warning gas monitors?
