The story centers around the relationship of David, a painter living an isolated life in the Florida Keys with sophisticated and openly gay Justin, from Miami. What starts as a date and possibly posing for a painting unravels into a physiological struggle for power and freedom when David decides to “borrow” Justin against his will.

The movie is a metaphor for what many people do in relationships. They try to enslave and capture whom they love, instead of celebrating their freedom. They have excuses by believing they're good and have the best interests at heart. The painting encaptures it as well. In the painting the youngster didn't have a mouth, can't speak. But if you look closely it seemed that there was both the younger and older man in one person.

I just finished watching this movie. In the beginning, I wanted Justin to take every opportunity to escape from David; even if it meant gaining David's trust. Long story short, both these men were hurting on any number of levels. I thought the movie dragged at times, but eventually, my interest returned. The actors were phenomenal and believable. The overall storyline and script were down-to-earth and able to follow. At first, I wasn't sure, but now I know that I want this movie in my DVD/BLU-RAY collection. 3-cheers for all who participated in the making of this exquisite filmwork.❤
Most of the people in the comment section say not to watch the movie. But, I liked it anyway, the acting is top-notch and realistic. The movie has something to make me indulged.
It's very refreshing to watch a gay movie that isn't the usual cliche ridden film that we've become to expect for our audience. I think it's mistakenly headed as a romance drama but it's hardly romantic & will attract the wrong audience. It's not a horror film either as per some reviews. I would say this is much more of a dark gay thriller, much in the same vein as Stephen King's 'Misery', which you could hardly classify as romantic. I really enjoyed it. The alternative storyline is good & the tension builds up slowly between the two actors throughout the movie as to where it's direction is going to ultimately take you, be it with a good, bad, happy or sad ending. You'll have to watch it to find out but if you enjoy a good thriller you might be pleasantly surprised.
I wasn't keen with the constant language changing all the time, which meant the subtitles had to change as well. It's unnecessary & is more off putting on the concentration factor. Otherwise a great job & well done to all.

I feel like this film has a great premise but it kind of went in head scratching moments throughout the film. Character of David is exceptionally well played as he balances the normalcy of his action with the almost tense and unpredictable tension of what he is capable of doing to Justin. The issue I have is the character of Justin. Half the time he could have escaped somehow but the other time it feels like a weird Stockholm synod is held to him against his captor. Fast forward to the ending and we see David's world fall apart. I'm still unclear at the end what his intention with Justin was to begin with - was he kidnaping him to amuse a lover or was he trying to relive moments between his son through borrowed times from the past? I'm open to interpretations. I'm probably not getting something right. In the end - still a great film. It did what set out to do - scared the heck out of me into meeting someone 200 miles in the middle of nowhere.
I am truly disturbed by this movie. I may have felt bad for David had he not kidnapped Justin and tormented him.. Just disturbing...
There were at least 20 times Justin could have overpowered David, so I'm not sure he actually wanted to get away. I think by staying as David's prisoner he was punishing himself for "dishonoring" his parents. The acting was very strong, "David" especially. His breakdown at the fish tank was gripping.

I've been watching Mr Del Arco since his days as Hugh the Borg in Star Trek Next Gen. almost 30 years ago... such a good actor!
I thought he looked familiar but I couldn’t place him. Good eye!

Horrible movie, i mean why kidnap someone in the first place, i thought all humanity was lost while watching the story. The actors were very good, but I thought it was too heavy. Thank God that it is far from the reality, I mean if this was the reality I would not leave home to find love.
I think this isn't a good movie neither a good history.
At the end the victim should look for Justice, because he was kidnapped and there is no reason in the World for a person do this to another and not pay for it.

It IS indeed pretentious of the kidnapper's part. You cannot force someone to save themselves and that was what he was trying to do. It seems to me that this is what the story is about. He didn't save his son so he's trying to save his victim. And he didn't learn his lesson apparently because now he's out looking for him again. The flip side to this is, people make so many bad decisions for their life, and all any of us can do is sit there and watch... for the most part.

"Gay men" is not a fixed category of the human condition. Obviously, for you, "gay" is one set of your prejudices that this film doesn't correspond to.
Not my idea of an inspiring film. Disturbing to say the least. Perverted, crazy. I suppose it's a good warning to not accept dinner dates in someone's home who is a stranger.

I don't care if it's a work of art or not. It's a disturbing film for an already difficult environment, such as the gay environment. It's not a film you can watch at any time. The actors are excellent….however I wouldn’t see it again….

I've now seen this film a few times & continue to enjoy it. At some point I'll have to look up the screenplay that it's based off of as well.
Justin & David were both interesting characters. They had both stalked each other a bit prior to their date ... or so it seemed. Justin himself seemed mostly curious ... switching into survival mode when David locked the door.
Part of me wants to excuse David's actions, given the revelations about his past - his time in the war, his troubled son & their broken relationship ... but other parts of me have trouble excusing him completely. Justin was a young guy who thought he was going on a casual hook up, only to end up handcuffed, scared & in a fight for dominance.
This was my first exposure to Hector Medina & I'm curious to explore what other projects he's been a part of.
As for, Jonathan, it's definitely a much darker role than I'm used to seeing him in.
