Yanis Varoufakis in conversation with Richard D. Wolff | DiEM25

  • The coronavirus crisis is revealing that the powers that be of the European Union have learned nothing from the Eurocrisis.
They are currently betraying the interests of the majority of Europeans in the same way that they have done so in 2010 -- by failing to mobilize existing money and public financial instruments in the interests of the many. With their current decisions, they are jeopardizing public health, public goods and the interests of Europeans.
We call it TV because we like retro-futurism. But it's much more than TV. In times of global pandemics, DiEM25 is launching a special online and completely free program to understand the current crisis and offer tools and hope to get out of it stronger and more united in building the World After Coronavirus. Everyone will be able to join and pose questions, suggest next topics and next guests!

I think that's so beautiful that Dr. Wolff's father wanted him to learn Greek, Latin, Plato, Aristotle, and Marx. What a gift to have a parent that instills the love of understanding the world.

@@kkay3784 When I listened to Yanis in the past, I thought he was on the honest side of politics. After watching this video I realize that he is controlled opposition, which means he is following the dictates of the ruling elites.
'Democratic' countries are controlled by the establishment. The leaders of the establishment are the owners of the world cartel of private central banks. The same cabal own the multinationals, the world mainstream media (including Google and social platforms like UA-cam) and they control governments. View the realzionistnews website if you want detail of who the leaders of the establishment are.
Yanis ignores the existance of the establishment and pretends the government is in control.
The people that give me hope are those that expose the corruption of politicians who are puppets of the establishment.
The current 'plandemic' is being used by the establishment to accelerate UN agenda 21, which has the aim of increasing the power and control of the establishment.

This 76 year old learned Marx at my fathers knee just like Dr. Wolff. So delighted to hear this broadcast by two of my favourite intellectuals. Thank you. Rather than searching out opportunities at recognized institution to develop courses, why not begin international online universities offering a far larger audience with greater participation and opportunity to support and build an international movement developing leaders with support to form real political parties in many countries. Don’t exclude the wide range of interest and talent already available but currently frustrated without massive support.

    Two of my favorites together.
As a woman of almost 66 years and one who had always been "apolitical," I finally voted for the first time ever in the 2016 election First for Bernie Sanders in the primaries, then for Jill Stein in the general. I told my family and friends (who were somewhat appalled that I didn't vote " against" the man who is now #45) that I didn't believe in voting for the least worst. I quoted Malcolm X to anybody who would listen--because I am old enough to remember that firebrand truth-teller--"they show you the wolf to get you to vote for the fox."
This election will be the same, a dreary coda to might have been. Although these days I am now in the streets working for movements of demand rather than a political campaign. Joe Biden is emblematic of everything wrong with both political parties and with the Dems in particular. When will the true progressive left realize (as Kshama Sawant aptly says) that the Democratic party is the graveyard of progressive policies? It has ever been so, from when we were given Harry Truman instead of Henry Wallace. and then with the two recent neo-liberals instead of Bernie Sanders. [They failed to realize that even Bernie was a concession choice for many of us]. And they've systematically unraveled our meager progressive gains ever since.
Third party or revolution. My pitchfork is ready. It's "Serf's up" time.

This is such an enjoyable conversation, though I have heard Professor Wolff say all this before. There are some of us who are left over from the old left. There are old people who are veterans of trying to expose lies fed us by high school teachers, union struggles, the Mc Carthy witch hunts, Viet Nam, civil rights, housing advocacy and all the other causes around which we organized, we still hang around and try to learn, and apply it. It is a joy to hear two dedicated Marxists talk together in easy to understand language. Some of us were never given college educations but learned Marx ourselves because it made sense, but it was hard slogging without some interpretation. It is so enlightening.
No, during the McCarthy Era internationalism was all but killed off. At one time the left, or that part of it that I was familiar with, was frightened, jailed economically deprived enough that they had a hard time nurturing the next generation of leftists. The left had to reinvent itself and one of the taboos of left discourse on the street was to discuss international alliances. "International communism" was a terrible bugaboo. Now we might begin to talk less obliquely when we organize around local and national issues.

I have seen, enjoyed, and been educated by many of Dr. Wolff's lectures/videos. This has been the most moving and revelatory. I had not heard his family history in such depth, and found his memories as much, or even more valuable and insightful than his formal lectures.

The young are going to be the front line for a better future. I'm proud to have been a part of teaching them to think for themselves and then lead not follow. Words backed by actions! I am so proud to follow their lead into a better world for everyone.

I try to follow Prof. Wolff frequently and it would be interesting to know his frank opinion regarding present China. Yanis who while he was finance minister used to move around in motor bike which does not come in wildest dreams in India, can set an example to whole of Europe. All the best for DiEM25.
