- In this video, Aotearoa/New Zealand-born creator Richard Fairgray (BLACK SAND BEACH, BLASTOSAURUS) discusses the inspiration behind releasing the LGBTQIA+ coming-of-age graphic novel FOUR-COLOR HEROES digitally in te reo Māori.
FOUR-COLOR HEROES is an LGBTQIA+, Upper YA graphic novel written and illustrated by Fairgray. It is a touching love story which follows two star-crossed young men who - in spite of their disparate backgrounds - find escape and one another through the pages of a comic book. The coming-of-age romance is set in a New Zealand high school prior to the passing of the Civil Union Act 2004 (which allowed same-sex couples to enter into a civil union).
In light of Fairgray’s New Zealand roots and given the Māori heritage of one of FOUR-COLOR HEROES ’ protagonists, FOUR-COLOR HEROES will be released digitally in te reo Māori via Hoopla on Monday, September 11th, 2023, and via ComicsPlus, Google Books, Google Play, and Kindle Direct on Wednesday, September 13th, 2023.
The English-language edition of the book is currently available in print from Fanbase Press and digitally on Hoopla, Comics Plus, Kindle Direct, Google Books, and Google Play.
