    if you want free food grade buckets, go to a bakery, especially bigger ones, and they will have them left over from icing... sometimes, they even leave a little icing..... sometimes they even leave alot :)...... they are usually 2 or 3 gallons instead of 5, and some times square, but otherwise the same.

    Me and my wife have this same setup with an extra chlorine filter attached to the bottom of the filters on top and it's worked great!!! We use it to filter our tap water for drinking and cooking. Unfortunately the top (ceramic I think) filters got broken by a nasty fall off of the drier where we keep the setup on. Lol we love it though and the water tastes great! 100% would recommend this to anyone looking for a reasonably priced filter to get away from the disgusting tap water we're told is "ok to drink"! ( gimme a break)

      Haha, “it’s okay to drink” really had me so confused! Water is supposed to be pure, it’s contaminated if it has so many things inside of it that it’s affecting the flavor. In which world is contaminated water ever okay??

    BPA free plastic is a must, if your in a SHTF situation, and you find yourself sick the added chemicals leaching out of the plastic could really harm you, things that a healthy person's body wouldn't be as affected by all at once. Just a thought, great video!

      @Geo Jeff - Late replay, but "Food Grade" buckets are almost certainly BPA free if made in the last 5 years.
      @Bradley Boulton - Search is your friend, the "Evidence" is years old by now, you must be living under a rock to not now what BPA Free is about. BPA is a component of plastic that has been found to be extremely harmful to life. Google BPA Free instead of expecting someone to do it for you.

    This can also be done using stainless steel, stock pots (cooking) & using Doulton filters that also filter out fluoride, which Berkey filters do not. And IMHO, a better spigot, nothing plastic, is in order here for precious water.
    Harley Wood, I'd really appreciate hearing your comparison of the filters.
    Great, short video! Not a minute of wasted time. I'll certainly share this one!

      Carl Brown there are a bunch of different filters you can attack together to cover a broad range of contaminants. Just search Amazon and I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for. Unfortunately there are a few things such as Fluoride that you'd need a more sophisticated filtration system to get out.

    • @Komadin
      @Komadin 4 роки тому

      They are ceramic filters. If you want to get very specific, you need to know the micron level that you're filtering. but generally these types of ceramic filters will filter out most pathogens and bacteria, metals and other contaminants.

    I’ve been banging my head off the wall, trying to keep the price of water filtration low, by trying to figure out if a couple of five gallon buckets would do the job, instead of buying the overpriced big berkly (spelled wrong on purpose) type of system. I just did a search to try and find out if anyone else already figured it out. And VWALLA !! Here you are 😁👍🏻 Thank you for this video.

    Quite nice. I am thinking of doing something similar with 3-gallon buckets and 2x7 filter element(s). As a single male with limited counter space/height 3 gallon buckets should be more than sufficient. And while the 10" candles might JUST fit in that size bucket (11" tall, so maybe 10.25" clear) why not use the cheaper 7" candles as the water would not go to the top of the 10" ones anyway? Has anyone tried the trick with adding the hose to the filter to create a siphon and increase the flow rate?

      No need to boil. If you read the stats on those filters, they filter out like 99.9% of dangerous elements. Is you suspect viral contamination, you could get a more expensive set that has even higher protection. Viral contamination is rare though so might not be necessary

    Just looked at the filters from link and they are exactly what I bought except mine are the 10” filters. They do not filter fluoride. What about adding a third filter in the bucket that filters fluoride? I’ve heard mixed things about that. If you have any thoughts about it, I’d appreciate your input. Thanks Harley!

    • @HarleyWood23
      @HarleyWood23  4 роки тому

      Thanks man. Your plan may differ, but for me these are intended for a scenario where city water is not available and I’d need to filter from creeks or lakes. As such, I wasn’t terribly worried about fluoride. Adding a third filter that removes fluoride won’t stop the other two from letting it through. You may want to return those two and buy the ones that filter fluoride.

    * IDEA to keep SPIGOT from getting lost/separated:
    Drill a hole in the lid that you've drilled the holes for the filters to protrude thru for the SPIGOT, so during transport /storage SPIGOT does not get lost.
    BTW: Best to use Food Grade buckets at this point in time as it's projected the entire power grid will be going down long term (months /years) if or should I say when a EMP attack is launched.
    Google "EMP attack". While reading the various hits keep in mind that the "real" threat is not so much a "Military attack: from "nations" /nationstates as in a military attack as our military could respond in kind, but from those dedicated individuals who've chopped off peoples heads while wearing masks that want to kill as many of us as they can.
    (Google Solar Flare /Carrnington Event of 1859)
