  • Key Points of Fail - 2 years old, control panel malfunction. Fan and pump will not stay on together. Turn both on, one will shut off, so one or other does. $50 panel replacement charge, you have to install yourself. Tech said part may not work due to some different panel (or something). NO serial, NO identification of model could be found externally. Summary: Typical scam of junk workmanship with goal to get $$$ from planned failure of parts.

The control module is made by Shendou noke, in Guangdong China. There are several reasons the control module fails : the rectifier circuit overheats over time ( 1-2 years ) then burns out. the control circuit on the modules board is not designed to ground out voltage spikes, so even little ones can fry the microchips. the Electronic parts on the board are low quality and the manufacturer is constantly changing suppliers. you can place ten boards on a table and you can see that on every board, the parts are soldered in place differently. there are no heat sinks or vent on the control module housing to dissapate heat.

We've had a window Bionaire cooler in Vegas for 7 years now. It's had no problems. We haven't had to replace anything, it's made in Australia. Not all places can use a swamp cooler, but here in the arid 120 degree west, it's great.

You can use them in a human area as long as you have a dehumidifier or a air conditioner. It cuts your bill by 40%. Only run the air conditioner part-time.

I had the same issue. I took the front apart and bought some taps for electrical wires. Ran 1 cord to the motor and one to the pump. I lost high and low. BUT, I put each plug into a smart outlet. Now I can tell Alexa - turn on pump to soak the membranes. Then turn on motor a few minutes later. I have each programmed to run for 30 minutes every hour at night. That and and an UpDUX in the attic keep our house in the 60's at night. So at first I was annoyed with the cooler, but with my improvement, its actually better for us.

I'd like to know more about this. Cause I'm sure an old style 3 way switch like the Old coolers had would be a good fix for this issue. Just bypass all the electronic relays and switches.

    • @bcbslc6942
      @bcbslc6942 3 роки тому

@@DabblelyDiddly it was really simple, just open that control panel and you will see several quick connect plug ins. I hooked up a 3 prong wire with female quick connects and plugged those into the motor connects (for high speed). The pump was already a 3 prong, so I just ran that out with the other wire. Plugged those into some Kasa smart plugs. and boom one smart swamp cooler.

Interesting, I've been running mine for a few years now and haven't had a panel problem yet.. Of course, I have replaced the pump twice (also around $50). In case you care, the connections inside are standard 110v plugs (like extensions cords) so it would be super easy to just purchase an evaporative cooler thermostat, hack up a couple of extension cords to plug into the pump and fan, and use it instead. I plan on doing this and posting it to my channel just to get the thermostat features.

Mine had the same problem where only one would stay on at a time. Factory replacement control module was warranted for only 90 days which is not one season. The hell with that. Removed the front grill and did the separate cord idea to the pump and the unit works fine. Now the control module only controls the fan. THANKS!

At least you got to use your cooler for a couple of years. I just bought a MCP44 this last July 2021 and got it all installed, plugged it in and ....NOTHING! Right out of the box and it didn't even work. I called their support number and told them what happened and they said the same thing, must be the control module. So she said she would requestion me a new one and it has been 3 weeks and still no replacement. I am seriously considering replacing the control with a Dial manufacturing cooler thermostat 7617 which can be done very easy and quick and will last for years because it is not made in China. I give them a little longer to send a replacement then I will tear this old junk out and replace it. I used to live in the high desert in California in Lancaster and it got hot there glad I didn't have one of these coolers then..

  • @koumasgrl3286

I had one of these coolers too. It was problems from the get go. There was control panel issues, motor issues, and fan blade issues. We had to replace the control panel and compacitor out of the box. The fan blade would rub the sides if on high. Before the first year was over, the fan motor needed to be replaced. They sent a defective replacement so I had to get another one. In the middle of the second season hubby pulled to fan blade off to change the fan motor again only to have the clips break from being brittle. The thing constantly leaked around the screws that hold the cover on. I had to add screen to keep bugs out of my house since they would come through the media. I gave up and went back to a regular metal cooler and have been happy since.

I've had my MCP44 going on 4 years now. It was great for the first 3 years. Since I started using it 3 weeks ago, it has been acting up like it has a mind of its own. It will only run on high speed with the pump on. If you put it on any other speeds, it will automatically start switching speeds, turning off and on, turning the pump on and off and eventually completely shut down. At first I was thinking that it was getting some IR interference from the new LED light bulbs I put in on the light over the dining room table. But after some researching, it shouldn't be that. What I have been finding a lot online is that the control module fails on these coolers. And you really can't find replacement parts for them. As a result, I'm looking to see how I can possibly wire it for a manual switch for fan speeds and pump on and off.

I bought my Master Cool in June of 2013 and I began having issues with control module starting around 2015. In 2018 that lead to auto shut down of fan at any speed or pump. as a temporary, perhaps permanent solution I ran a power cord inside the unit (use the bottom-right corner..cut a little channel if you want the lid shut flush)...then find the two power cables inside one of which is the pump, connect this one to the cable you just ran inside, leave the other connected to the Control unit...this allows to run the pump (you will not see the LED on for it, obviously, but you can hear it running), then you can use the Control to run the fan at the desired speed...give it a shot, please give feedback if it works to confirm so that others can benefit

Jose Ortiz I've already did that and it works except you can only run the motor on high if you put it on medium or low it goes back to shutting itself off and turning the pump on correction it turns the pump light on not the pump the pumps plugged into its own cord and if you leave the pump light on eventually it will shut down the high setting also plus your Purge pump isn't working so your pads get all built up within a day or two good luck!!

I called to order a pump, that you can't find anywhere else, not Home Depot, not Lowes, not Grainer, and everyone was in a sales meeting. No one called back from my voicemail. I called to order again and it was too late to ship that day. So what you have here is all proprietary parts.
This is not a good unit to buy, I got it free from SCE and the maintenance on it has been way too much to be worth the price.

Blaming China is like blaming a dog that poops after it eats. The problem is American companies who go to China to have their stuff made for less. It is an American company who designed this and makes the money from selling it. The American company that doesn't want to pay American workers a fair wage. So it's 'cheaper' to farm out the work to somewhere else. The blame China thing helps to keep Americans hateful and no better off. American worker owned businesses are almonst illegal and are 'certainly' anti-American because they are 'socialist'. We are in love with capitalism where you know, the people who do the work, have no say in how the product is designed, manufactured, marketed etc. We have a fetish that only a tiny few people at the top of our food chain called predatory capitalism deserve to make money on the backs of the people that actually do the work.

ok I had my Mastercool for 8 years only been changing the pump the last 3 years twice. Now my Module been acting up the same exact way so I figure it might be my pump causing it cuz its not the same kind of pump it came with cuz my fan would stay on alone without pump being used no problem but once I turned on pump starts acting up. I was using the UL11000 cooler pump, 11000 cfm. So I went to lowes and bought the mastercool pump mcp44 it goes for 49.98$ it was working great the first night module not switching to different speed or shutting off but the next day it started acting up again. so now im thinking I need to buy a new module. but before I did that, I got the idea to run the fan alone and unplug the pump and plug that in it own outlet and bam problem solved.....the only thing is you have to plug in and pullout the plug when you use the pump but will save you a lot of money. All you have to do is pull out the round rubber circles and unscrew the front panel and all the plugs are right there unplug the pump from the module and pull it through the front and cut a little slot for the wire so it wont get pinched. if your outlet aint close you might have to use a extension cord but don't use a cheap one. I went to lowes and return my new pump and got my money back and just used my old pump. so I didn't have to waste money to do this. hope this helped...good luck

It worked well, it was a hassle to fix, but I did fix it. Pretty strange how you get those 100° temperatures and humidity to get so high right? I can't afford the AC right now so I've got a fan in my face practically. I turn on the cooler when it's maybe 5:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. . But today it's 100° so I don't know WHEN I'm going to turn it on.

Evaporative cooler requires a window to be opened. You're blowing water into the room. You can open a window wherever you want. If you want to cool down a bedroom, then open the window in that room. Assuming that the evaporative cooler is installed in the living room. I first turn on the pump and let it run at least one minute. This is because water runs over dry pads that get wet. Then you can turn on the fan. Note the air temperature and humidity in the air directly impacts the cooling aspect.
I suggest you do an internet search on how an evaporative cooler works. But I pretty much just explained it. It is not an air conditioner. That's why you have to crack a window open and make sure that it's open enough where the air that's coming in can exit comfortably.

I bought one of these and some major design flaws are as follows. The overflow tube has another tube connected to the pump supply. The directions tell you to leave this supply tube even with the bottom of the overflow. This tube will continuously dump water on the ground. STUPID directions. Also the screws that hold the bottom pan to the top leaks water. Stupid design to put the screws where water is present knowing it will leak.

    • @seanfinkel9621

I returned My Master Cooler after 3 weeks. Now I already have a large normal big square swamp cooler at my other home. It is like an ice box. But this mater cooler is such garbage, besides the cheap plastic body, and the large cooling cardboard pads which cost $90 to replace and have large enough holes to let bugs in when not useing during the winter. The Fan design compared to a squirrel cage fan is not ideal. Also the surface area of the pads is not enough to cool much down compared to a large square box (Swamp Coolers) that has three large pad areas compare to Master Cooler one large pad area. The unit says it cools down 2000sq' but not even close. The only thing good about this unite is besides the control display, everything is easy to work on and disconnect.
