My cover/reinterpretation of Tangerine Dream's 'Ricochet', mostly a cover of part 2 with some improvised and live performed parts. Created with a combination of software and hardware. This was a tough one to figure out, due to the complexity of the sequences and the live played feel to it, which I tried to capture with my own live performance and improvisation. Hope you enjoy it, feedback is welcome!
High quality .wav available to download on my Soundcloud page here: / tangerine-dream-ricoch...
Thanks to Data Rebel for the mastering.
Credit to Mike Winkelmann for the VJ Loop.
Recorded direct to SD card on the Zoom R16. Some compression and limiting was added in post.
Please like and subscribe if you enjoyed the music, and want to be notified of new uploads.

This is an amazing cover. I think that some people are missing the small fact that by covering this they are keeping the original sound and feel of TD alive. Considering the path the band has taken in recent years I welcome the covers that State Azure has done, and hope that they continue to be inspired by the early works of TD and create new original works in the same spirit. In no way will these covers replace the originals, but like a newborn artist learning to play Mozart before going on to make their own contribution to the world, we must celebrate this effort to introduce TD to a new generation who can by hooked by State Azure, and then go back to the originals, and then load their musical library in both directions to make a fulfilled collection of awesome ear candy.
To the haters : Edgar Froese is dead. We need to pass on his legacy along with the respect to the remaining original members and those who have lit their torches from the fire of the people who have brought us such amazing music since 1967. We need this music , and music like it, in the future. We owe it to those who will come later looking for this sound the way we did : with discovery and awe.

I couldn't agree with you more. A really balanced view point. State Azure has done a beautiful cover TD for us older ones to enjoy again (I was born in 1950) and absolutely love Psy-Trance music. State Azure and Dreamstate Logic are right at the top of my choices.

I wore out my 1975 vinyl eventually. When I got married in 1977 my new wife and I sat up all night listening to this on my Transcriptors Reference turntable. Both she and Edgar are together now on the great cosmic journey. Thank you so much for this wonderful rendition of the most beautiful piece of music ever composed.

"Ninooo" And I discovered TD in 88 when I was the age of 9!!! Picture a child sitting in the passenger side of a vintage "1984 Jeep CJ-7 Laredo" with no hard top cover accelerated at the speed of (95mp-h) at 1:30am on a pitch black highway road with no cars in sight for miles! Now here comes the irony moment the TD track was "LIVEMILES" which was recorded at night live in Albuquerque Mexico and I was just mesmerized/hypnotized in the most deepest parts of my consciousness traveling to unknown places/worlds I swear to the fkn Universe I never experienced anything else like that in my entire being!. So I feel your statement!

Seen a comment saying no one should ever try to cover this absolute masterpiece from TD. Well, they are wrong. This cover captures the essence of the original. I agree, no one will ever produce a carbon copy of the original. Ricochet was conceived, written and recorded once, using the tech of the day, using unique sounds. It happened once. This cover is the only one that captures the essence, the sequences as near as possible by a new master. Brilliantly.

Fan-tas-tic. Thank you for making this.I've no idea how long you've been doing this - I've just stumbled across you this morning.
I know how Ricochet was made - Yeah,I'm old enough to have been around, then - and your version focuses on the right side/part of the album. And you have more than done it justice.I just wish you would make an almost identical version, but 2 or 3 times longer.
I'm sure you know this, but not everyone here will : Ricochet was made from several parts of a late 1975 European tour.I was lucky enough to see them live - the 1st of 3 times - the following year, and this was very much just how they sounded,as I remember.
I kept that - treasured - ticket, until it was lost in our most recent house move, around 8 years ago,or I'd still have it,but the Album being so similar to the concert helped to always remember that particular concert,of many, the SPECTACULAR light/laser show, aside.
Tangerine Dream ,at the Glasgow Apollo, 1976 [I was 14 at the time ,and it was one of my first dozen or so concerts]. Magical days / magical memories. And all for the princley sum of 2.5 UK Pounds [that's no misprint - £2.50]. I wore the Tour T-shirt [also only £2.50],till it practically disintegrated. Shows how things have changed.
I've loved TD since '75, when I first heard "Sorcerer" ,"Rubycon" and "Richochet" - the birth of a whole new musical world for me, and I still think, their best ever work, especially the side of the Ricochet album that you focused on. After not having followed them for several years [last 5 - 6 or 7 years],I was deeply sadenned to ,just this last week, read of Edgar's passing. So,finding this gem is all the more special.I have no doubt, whatsoever, that he would be delighted by this fantastic rendition, and your obvious devotion, and fantastic skill and talent.
I can offer no higher compliment. I rarely comment, but this demanded it. Subscribed.

Shortly after that I discovered TD and instantly became a fan, but had to slowly play catch up with a lot of their music! And it all led to me getting very interested in synths and electronic music production. Anyway, I'm really happy you like my rendition. It is a great work of yours!
Everyone would have to acknowledge your achievement, they are interpretations of masterpieces - just like in classical music: The old masters are gone, their music lives on - and that's a good thing: in diverse interpretations.
This is how the current TANGERINE DREAM can be seen - creative musicians continue to pursue the ambitious goal: music, spherically floating, without limits.
Anyone who criticizes this has the right to do so, but limits himself!
I also enjoy all the TD (live) interpretations of the old classics ...
But what TQ & his team are now doing has what it takes to achieve further peaks ...
HANSEATIC HARBOUR LIGHTS is (for me) another TD masterpiece

The first time I heard Tangerine Dream was precisely the Ricochet album in 1976, at the time there were other groups in the current known as German rock. Without a doubt, Ricochet for me was the maximum exponent, despite having been

Plugged in my Koss head set for this one, yes you were brave to attempt this TD/Chris Franke piece of sequencing master work, I think you made an excellent job of it though, it captures the essence of the TD classic, once again, many thanks.

This is near to the classic TD version, I realise Ricochet is difficult to emulate, but you've done an amazing alternative. The original TD version is renowned for its sequencing complexity, but you've done an amazing job of capturing that complexity, many thanks,.

Thorsten is brilliant! Ever since he joined TD in 2005, whenever a new TD album was announced, my first question would be "how much involvement does Thorsten have in this one?" and the more he was involved, the more excited I'd get. He's also turning TD back into the TD I fell in love with. The Sessions albums are truly phenomenal, and Thorsten is a very worthy successor to Edgar. In fact, I think of the two, Thorsten is the better composer.

You did a good job in "distilling" the essence of Ricochet (Part 2, as it sounds) into a more concentrated cover! Maybe you could bring more of your own interpretation if future TD covers, could be interesting.

I used to listen to TD Ricochet while learning to program on my 8088 XT back in 1987, 32 years later I'm doing the very same thing. On a 64 bit monster with more memory than the entire planet had in the 1960's. And of course instead of a 8 track tape, I'm having the computer play the music while I write my software. The TD future is NOW.
