Makes me want to buy a replica just to rework it so that it reclines. Tie some pivot brackets into the spider seat pan mount, a simple multi notch style recline system and you're there. Other ways of course but keep it simple.
I have one, and honestly, there's no need. The chair sits at the ideal angle, leaned back enough to be relaxing, but just upright enough to do whatever you want. You can sit in it with your feet on the floor, or up on the footstool in perfect comfort, and you can read a book, watch TV, carry on a conversation with someone else in the room, whatever. I've had recliners before, and I was reluctant to get one of these because, while I love chair's iconic good looks, I too wanted the recline feature, and I was reluctant to have the stool permanently taking up space in my living room. I bought one of the better knockoffs on the market, I've had it nearly ten years now, and I'll never go back to a recliner. The Eames chair not only looks great, but it's the most comfortable lounge chair I've ever sat in. I'd love to have an original, but on my income, I can't justify upward of six grand for a chair, no matter how iconic it is.
Notice the ottoman swivels in this video. Not sure how many of those they made but it was discontinued in fairly short order. I happen to have one of those early chairs.
