I’ve been looking all over for this styled potato salad. I wasn’t sure if it was Puerto Rican, Dominican or Cuban style. Dominicans definitely make the best potato salad behind blacks (soul food) potato salad/beet-free. One of my client’s granddaughter made this for me once and it was AMAZING! Them pickled onion add so much flavor and tanginess. My husband is Puerto Rican and I would love to make this for him. Thank you for this lovely recipe, I’m going to subscribe to your channel.
Yay so happy that you like! Remember, that you can add carrots and peas. I made my grandmother's recipe which doesn't include it because my uncle isn't a fan lol. Also, if you feel like the vinegar is too tart, a sprinkle of sugar will help balance it out. Enjoy!
When I saw you cutting the egg in your hand, I had to laugh. I'm Dominican too and I cut many things like that when I'm cooking. My Mexican husband is always worried that I'm going to cut myself 😁
I use an egg slicer to cut my eggs into uniform square pieces. I slice it one way put it back slice it another way and turn it up right and slice it the third time. Voilà perfect little squares
a tip for hardboiled eggs-- don't use eggs you just bought today. Use eggs that you've had for about a week. Fresh eggs don't peel as easily as older ones do
Haha don't call it boring! If it's good then it's a win lol Potato Salad is one of those dishes that varies from house to house. It's what I look forward to trying whenever I'm in a new place because of all of the variations. Thank you so much for watching. Happy Thanksgiving.
Love your videos! My very 1st memories, when I was dating my husband, was my mother in law's potato salad! OMG! the eggs, the onions, the vinegar! Absolutely delicious! Now that we've been together for almost 20 yrs and married for 8, I cherish her recipe and make it all the time for our holidays or whenver we feel like it!! Thanks for sharing yours! Pretty please...Can I request a video on how you make coquito (or ponche), if you have one? :)
Beautiful memories!!! This just made me smile :) I won't have time to share a coquito or ponche recipe this year but definitely on my list for next year :)
You're so right, in all Dominican gatherings the first invite is ensalada de papa, ensalada Rusa, and now we have made our own nick, "Dominican potato salad" 🤣🤣🤣 My sisters always offer me to do it, "ay, tu haces la ensalada de papa" 😂😂😂😉
Your recipe is so different from my moms. I love to see how many different ways you can make the same thing. I will definitely try this ❤️ keep these videos coming! Your recipes are the bomb !
Los Dominicano le añaden remolacha y sanaoria y algunos le dicen ensalada rusa. Yo la hago así mismo como la haces tú solo que no le añado mucho vinagre felicitaciones por tu contenido está de show lo que haces. Bendiciones
Nice, I don't dig too much of the vinegar flavor tho. what I do is I put some finely diced fancy red peppers(Pickled red peppers) and diced onions and I also add half of the container of the red pepper juice. The diced potatoes, diced boiled eggs, mayo, salt and pepper to taste.
I feel you. When I'm cooking for clients, I make sure to use cutting boards and gloves.... when it comes to family, I like to keep it traditional to keep the tradition alive 😊
Chef Zee! Love your videos and thank you for sharing and passing on your family traditions and secret recipes. I do have to ask- why not peel, chop, soak rinse and drain the potatoes before boiling? This seems easier than holding a hot potato and peeling. I’m not a chef nor dietician but some soak the potato to remove starch. . Please share your feedback.
I love Dominican potatoe salad!! I make it but I don't marinate the onions. I also add carrots and a little bit of finelly diced celery for some crunch. Dress it with mayo, drizzle with olive oil, salt and lemon juice to taste. Then refrigerate. So delicious!!
If you don't have olive oil you can skip the oil altogether. It's not a necessary ingredient. I like to add olive oil to all of my salads just to give it that subtle earthy flavor :) Thanks for watching! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
Thanks for watching! I mention in the video that my grandmother never added peas or carrots because my uncle doesn't like them, although a traditional Dominican Potato Salad does have peas & carrots. Totally up to you if you want to use frozen or fresh peas. If using fresh peas, you can boil the carrots & peas with the potatoes or in a separate pot. The choice is up to you. I hope this helps.
Definitely a traditional thing lol Also when you peel and dice the potatoes beforehand they soften up too much and lose their shape whenever you're mixing in the onions & mayo.
I made it tonight & turned out amazing! Thank you!
haha nice! So happy that you liked. Happy Thanksgiving!
Okay, i seriously love you like you are making me seem like a great cook! Hahah! Thanks girl ❤️❤️
You're welcome... and P.S.-- you are a great cook! Lol Happy Thanksgiving!

I use an egg slicer to cut my eggs into uniform square pieces. I slice it one way put it back slice it another way and turn it up right and slice it the third time. Voilà perfect little squares

My mother in law adds beets to it also to make it "Russian".
a tip for hardboiled eggs-- don't use eggs you just bought today. Use eggs that you've had for about a week. Fresh eggs don't peel as easily as older ones do
Very very true!!! Thanks for sharing that tip! And thanks for watching :)
So interesting.

That’s so cool! I personally like my potato salad tho with a little bit more texture and I add carrots.

Bendiciones
I've been looking for this recipe everywhere! Asked my Hispanic/Caribbean friends and they apparently never heard of this. Thank youuuu
This was always out on thanksgiving and birthdays and holidays lol
Nice, I don't dig too much of the vinegar flavor tho. what I do is I put some finely diced fancy red peppers(Pickled red peppers) and diced onions and I also add half of the container of the red pepper juice. The diced potatoes, diced boiled eggs, mayo, salt and pepper to taste.
You my friend are on to something. I need to try this! It sounds amazing. Thanks for sharing!!!!
Yes!! That red pepper juice is EVERYTHING! It's my secret ingredient at home when I'm making my potato salad. 🙂
In addition to what you've done, I also add a tablespoon of sugar, diced beets and add a little beet juice. Delicious!
I actually filmed that version of this potato yesterday!!! I'll be sharing it in time for Thanksgiving! ^_^

My grandma used to cut like this... im a chef and i use a cutting board and so many more useless equipment cause of health code
I feel you. When I'm cooking for clients, I make sure to use cutting boards and gloves.... when it comes to family, I like to keep it traditional to keep the tradition alive 😊

Looks like all black people make potato salad and bring it to the party. Oh!! You better not mess it up, because everybody is going to talk about you.

I like the potatoes bigger, this ones look more like mashed. But I do make it similar but I add apples is so good. Your salad look so beautiful!
Mmm Adding apples must make it taste amazing! I have to try that. thanks for sharing :) Happy Holidays!
Amy Duran apples on potatoes salad sounds so gross.. some people put raisins ...which I find gross too 😩
the secret to not making mashed potatoes is to let the potatoes cool down before chopping them. its a trick that works everytime!
I dont add peas either love my moms potatoes. Im hoping to make them Sunday using ur recipe tfs
My mom adds carrots and apple, tastes amazing.
Yerundi yes apples are bomb in a potato salad

Where’s the remolacha😩
And green apples lol
Lol that's version 2 of a Dominican Salad... filming that TODAY!!! ^_^
Why not peel the potatoes prior to boiling and cut them in smaller pieces so they can boil faster??
i'v always thought that but my grand mother just would not do that i think its just a traditional thing
Definitely a traditional thing lol Also when you peel and dice the potatoes beforehand they soften up too much and lose their shape whenever you're mixing in the onions & mayo.
Made To Order very true because i have done it that way! Lol every dominican video ive watched does it your way
