Refreshing change for someone to actually play the damn thing . Great demo. I have one with the early BA662 filter Man its a dark moody old thing and love it to bit’s. Haunting .
@@MrKeys57 Yes I am aware. They are expensive because everyone wants them and they're rare. And everyone wanting them means that everyone is making music with vintage analogue synths at the moment, or at least soft/hard replications. OP doesn't seem to be aware that this is a very popular style of music/sound at the moment especially with the popularity of mainstream shows like Stranger Things. If you need examples of current synthwave, etc, let me know.
@@joyusachoobarb I think he meant wish synthpop and new wave would come back, a darker synth music which isnt quite the same stuff today, synthwave sounds very bright and commercial.
@@maccagee693 There's still heaps of music like that out there. Bandcamp is awash with it. Or if you want an example of a better-known artist using them to make moodier music, Sharon Van Etten literally has a song called Jupiter 4 and its incredible. There's also artists like Chromatics, Boy Harsher, Exploded View, John Maus and Beak that are all making darker, synth-driven music influenced by the post-punk and new-wave sounds of the late 70s.
To those complaining of no arpeggiator demonstration, he was arpeggiating all on his own. Amen. And I encourage you. It's basic requirement keyboard stuff. I know, I know. Arpegiators are cool, and great. But so is self-arpeggiating.
That's the modern electronic generation who don't know how to actually play, and who think keys are just an impediment to making their 4/4 repetitive, sequenced dance music. Some dolt on the demo of the Memorymoog I just watched commented that it sounded like a VST... *Eye roll*
The Jp4 is a hugely under-appreciated synth. For me it's THE funky Roland sound of yore, the closest thing to a poly SH-2, which is stellar in its own right.
Traded mine in in '86 but remember it like it was yesterday, this brings a lot of memories back. It got to the point where I couldn't tune it anymore, those Philip's head screws on the back just sent the pitch all over the place.
I found one of these in a dumpster last year from a house flipping job. Status?: Half the keys work, and most of the controls work. Hoping to get it worked on. Thanks for the demo!
Amazing richness of sound. Only recent releases to come close are OB-6 and Moog One. OB-6 nails vintage tone but the originals like this JP4 are other-worldly. Must be superior specs of the original components. Downside is maintenance and repairs ... and price!!
Best sounding Roland.

perfect demo. no bs, just raw info. i like that.
Great synth and still sounds out of this world. Wish music would come back using these synths again. Good days. Thanks for a great demo.
lol, are you serious?
@@joyusachoobarb its a vintage synth, very expensive and sought after, prices round 3000€ not unusual

JP4 is the epitome of pure raw analogue power. One of the best sounding synth ever built.

that low end is fantastic ..you can also go pretty dramatic on a jp4 as for strings
it has the sub sound of a Jupiter 8 but sounds waaaaay better

The early Duran Duran/Nick Rhodes sound!
This was used for the middle 8 section of the 80s cover of the doctor who theme song performed by peter howell
wow....that first filter sweep is so bad ass lol thats all you need....
Many years ago i had Jupiter 4, great synth!

Pure analog beauty.
You guys do the best demos.
Man this sounds cool.
You didn't demo either the arpeggiator or the chorus fx? Aren't those among the most desirable and unique features of this synth? Strange.
you're a goat my friend? Strange.
YES!! DURAN DURAN!! NICK RHODES! RIO!
Nice demo.
Roland used to make cool shit! :)
ZOMG @ the filter test. That is the real deal.
I like this!!
I just bought one! hahahahaha OH YEAH BABY

What a beast. 🎹
Used by Gary Numan to great effect on the 1980 album Telekon. ?
Check it on 'A Game Called Echo'
Gary Numan used this on his song"Shes got Claws".
Sounds of the early 80s right there
Does somebody know how many Jupiter 4 were build ?
This synth is a 70s time capsule
Love this!!!
Was it a dream we shared?
3:20-3:50
this is what they used to make the bojack horseman "back in the 90's i was in a very famous tv show" song
How much does one of these bought?
At least 2000.
@@bigPianist99 2 years later twice the price
cuanto vale
Gisselle Barajas 2000 usd
What's that smell? Ah yes, it's that 80's cheese! Yes, please! :)
At least it was nice cheese, unlike much of today's rotten, smelly cheese
Gary Numan Telekon
It has a nice fat and juicy sound.
the 16 haters are Jupiter-8 owners
Fuck me dead Jupiter 4.
damn 4:43
Clearly the synth from BoJack Horseman intro song
I love all you analog fanboys. But I love my System 1 and would not ever want this for a few reasons.
Digital shit
Sgreat sounding synth ... but not arpeggio demo
