Derek, love your videos -thanks. 1. I respond to personal emails 2. I NEVER respond to canned/auto-generated emails, or emails that have been sent to me but it's a (LONG) cut/paste job! Meaning, if you want my attention give it to me first! Thanks, Derek, I'm slowly becoming a BIG fan of yours!
Send stupid email senders a link to this video - brilliant Derek! Love your content and style. It's exciting to watch, fascinating to think about and with relevant and uncommon subject headings. Nigerian [mostly] email scams asking for money, or we have a ban account full of cash, wind me up big time. Unsolicited sales emails where all they do is talk about themselves without once asking if I have a problem related to their product or service that needs solving anger me too. If they're polite, humble and short they might get a 'no thank you' even if I'm not interested. We all know how demoralising it is to receive no feedback.
Hate rambling, unfocused emails, just as you described. Get to the point quickly. Such good advice. Love the psychology behind the information gap! Thanks.
A PDF too? All of this free high-quality content has my internet panhandler senses tingling. Thanks for helping me promote my business with these tips, your information is great!!
Hey, Just found out about you thru Marie Forleo. Love this video. I have always known that in order to get someone's interest, you don't dance all around them telling them how awesome you are....you need to create desire. What I like about this video is that you're showing us an EXAMPLE of how to do it. Sometimes it's hard to think of ways to put the principle into actions. I'll definitely be checking out some more of your vids. Thanks!
I stumbled across some research from the University of Phoenix that says we should collaborate on a video together. My audience would love your energy, expertise, AND sense of humor. It's all in the article.
always have to insta-ignore the 20 paragraph life story e-mails. also i don't typically go thu e-mails that are sent from iphones, generally a well thought out e-mail is going to be written from a computer, mobile devices tend to bring more rambles, or emotionally packed messages. those are my personal thoughts at least :)
Love the hard hitting, "in your face style". Dumbest emails - asking to feature my work (without paying me for it) for a business I've never heard of in a far off or initially undisclosed place.
As far as unsolicited emails go, there's no specific limit as to how much of them I'll read before trashing them or how long or short they are. It really comes down to how quickly my bullshit meter goes off. Awesome video, btw! =)
Thank you Derek! I was hiding out and not feeling confident about reaching out so some influential people that I want to start a dialogue with. This video and the pdf are really helpful.
Great video! I know that I won't read a long email from people I don't know. Heck... Even people I DO know! If it's too much, I'm skimming. Thanks for the link to your free PDF. I will check it out.
Love the strategy, the mindset and also the tips. I love the "information gap" pitch. So elegant! I ignore emails from people who pitch me about technical help, normally website design and/or SEO. I know very well that my site needs redesigning and that I need to get better at SEO. But I have someone who can do that - and web design is really a commodity I could get sorted on Fiverr - in my perception (I may be wrong of course but my perception is what drives it). I MAY respond to people who help me solve ongoing problems -in my case, I run a business podcast for a specific niche. I have two issues: creating quality content; and getting traffic (podcast downloads and blog visits). SO if they are somebody with a decent reputation and they can convince me they can help with solving both issues, I'll consider them. They may need to reach out 2-3 times. If they can ping over a link to them doing an interview on another podcast in the same or related niche (social proof, I guess - and also jealousy, FOMO - powerful motivations), they have a good chance of coming on the show. However, If they were introduced by a previous guest or a trusted friend in the same space, I'm almost certain to have them on. Being introduced still works. Derek, keep up your excellent energy and giving no-BS, highly effective advice.
OMG!! Fruit Ninja is my game!!! Great video. I think I have reached a gold mine with Social Triggers. I respond to short concise emails. Emails that get directly to the point with what they want or what they are offering. I don't respond well to and often delete emails that are long and drawn out. These emails often remind me of those sales pitchy windows that pop up when you are trying to close a page on the internet. You know the one..."Wait, we have a special offer..."
A very useful tutorial, cause I am rigt now pitching blog posts to HuffPo editors. A big note to not sending a direct link in the first email. In my case - not a word file attachment. I am gonna use your smart tactics and see if they work in my particular case. I try to pitch an articlein a pice of writing but essentially they are the same. Thank you #emailmarketingtips
Thanks so much for a great video & for sharing the PDF. I'll let you know how it works! I've been talking to my team all week about getting out of their comfort zone and going after leaders they know online or in their community! And thanks for making your video very entertaining as well! Marion Mehrer
Love your videos. My 17 years old son used to hit his hand to his forehead just like you when he was little and his older brothers were teasing him. Did you also have older brothers and do the same thing?
My blog isn't popular enough to attract a lot of unwanted emails, but I recall at least one person who requested a book review...outside my tastes. First of all, I only review on my own accord. Even then, I'm not a book blogger. I'm a writer blogger who reviews books occasionally with a purpose.
Your short comment tells us more about you than just your opinion. Derek has 100,000 on his list with over 14,000 subscribers. How does that compare with your figures? (Oh! I wonder why?)
I find mails to get your mobile recharge absolutely free the dumbest of all!! I wonder y anybody would do that?!! Yes, I really liked the two points you mentioned in your video and have already started sharing :)
I don`t like when I get a long email with a problem from someone I don`t know, especially when that person is asking for the solution. So, I ignore these. Another tip for writting to a busy person you don`t know is to start with some nice words about their work and how it helped you. I`m more likely to respond to that than to an email filled with someones problems. Great video, thank you!
What I respond to: Emails from people that I know; emails with subject lines that interest me, emails that seem to offer ME something I want What I ignore: Long emails, emails from PR people who clearly don't know what I write about, emails that don't ask for a response.
I delete emails with subject line "urgent" anything. I don't even open them anymore and I get about 20 or more "urgent" emails every few hours. I also put the sender on the spam list
Hai derek i love your video, true i didn't read long email, but it takes a long way if we should send them short email to make them do send a request and after that send them a journal and after that ask them to buy something, how to make it short?
I always ignore emails with images embedded in the email. If you're going to attach something please attach it normally! But honestly no one should be sending a photo in their initial outreach email.
do you have a special account? I don't see it on mine? In fact our mutual friend James Wedmore has taught many ways to TRY to manipulate the thumbnail, but there is no guarantee. I see that both you and Ramit Sethi have custom thumbnails. But I havn't seen anyone else witht htis feature. (thanks for answering- ha)
Hi :) thanks for the informative vid. I didnt know that one must pay for a site review. I have a webcomic that I'd like bloggers to feature, does that mean I'll have to pay them?
OK how are you getting a customized thumbnail on your video? hummm..... (I don't expect you to answer this) And BTW another great vid. Truth is, I'm running out of ways to compliment / thank you... (I figure a like and comment will help)
Alright there! Have you ever seen - Amazing AR Mail Genie (google it)? I've heard some pretty positive stories about it from people who have benefited from the contents. It appears to be that it really can reduce the time and effort required to write your own emails to send to your list
the dumbest email that I ever saw was, pop ups showing these flash animations saying click here click there with long bla bla bla stuff that I wouldn't care to read and just shove the damn email in the trash!
I don't like them and don't read them. Some very well known marketers write the longest stuff. These same people tell us to be productive by not getting sucked into the email vortex. Please help, the sound that plays with the brain is ear piercing. Would it be possible to lower it by say 5-10 decibels? Pretty please?
Donation requests without mentioning anything about my site, my products, me. "Give me" is what I hear...not, "Love what you're doing"...I probably would respond if I was asked "do you ever give donations to...". All of that to say...I cringed when I watched the video and read the reviews, I'm guilty too!
Hello, I enjoyed some of your videos but in this one and some others I experience you as a bit aggressive and arrogant. I like you in the one about before and after photos and AB split testing - more genial and friendly and sincere. Easier to watch than this one as less extreme facial expressions and emphatic speaking! Thought might be helpful feedback. Kat
I write long emails. I don't even know I am doing it when I do it until I get curious and read email in my SENT BOX.Then I want to throw up. Oh my God what was I thinking. Its my personality too. I have serous trouble getting to the point and I actually am a good salesman. Perhaps it ADHD. I don't freak-en know! See here I go again, writing a long email! SEE WHAT I MEAN!
I unsubscribe immediately from email lists where the list owner sends me a proposal and then - when I don't show any interest in their offering - they write an email asking if everything is ok; hoping nothing bad has happened! - No, the only bad thing was an unintresting offer/email!!! Talk about people thinking that the people once on their list has nothing else to do than sit and wait for (not very enticing) offers from them.
+Devin Goodman - I knew there was something about him. I love Tommy Boy and this guy too - I could listen to him all day. Hilarious and informative at the same time - Win, Win!
I love how this is a video about making an information gap... and then without hesitation, he creates an information gap. Well done sir.
I did exactly what you said, followed the PDF. Got a response in 15 minutes. Thank you.
Wow finally some one that knows something about social dynamics!
Derek, love your videos -thanks.

Im worried for the two people who unliked this video...maybe they're still waiting for their free site review.
I love the information you provide. As for myself, short emails - direct and to the point. Thanks for the insights!
Love the job you are doing in those videos, informational and fun - following on new videos like crazy! Big inspiration, thank you! :)
It's because you're sincere.

It's the long emails that are the best ones!
I hate to say it, but I delete anything that comes from Aweber as an autoresponder. If it's not personal, I immediately delete it.
Great video Derek - shared with my colleagues!
Your short comment tells us more about you than just your opinion. Derek has 100,000 on his list with over 14,000 subscribers. How does that compare with your figures? (Oh! I wonder why?)

So what about long you tube videos?
Thanks Derek! Gives me plenty to think about!
Great video. Thanks ;-)
I read long email if the first and last paragraph are great, in speed reading mode.
I don`t like when I get a long email with a problem from someone I don`t know, especially when that person is asking for the solution. So, I ignore these.

Jelena Pantic WOW! "Ignore people with problems" - that sounds almost evil! :)

Great video :) i don't like reading long emails either.
You remind me of "Ari" from Entourage :) Keep it up dude , good points !

I never respond to emails that start with "Dear sir or madam". Haha.. Good tips!
This info is awesome Derek
Very useful tips man, thanks
sending emails to people you don't know results in getting right into their spam folder. It's not 1997 any more.
"fo' free" hahahahah

First view! :) Short emails every time please...
it's an option on my youtube account.
Jajajaja I hesitate between the Beatle look or the Roman Emperator look 😘
Can you share the link on the website design research
Thank you Derek 🤗
I love the bacon on his shoulders.
Derek always makes me crack up.
Thanks for another great video! Dumbest email? From the sales guy whose company's service would make me more "proffessional."
Great video derek
the dumbest email that I ever saw was, pop ups showing these flash animations saying click here click there with long bla bla bla stuff that I wouldn't care to read and just shove the damn email in the trash!
So, tried to download the pdf, got a big " The page you are looking for cannot be found". Twice. So....That sucks....oh well....

I only read emails from clients interested in my graphic design services.
I have an intellectual crush on you . . . your so on the money! I sell B2B and my emails are typical 3 sentences or less. I usually get a response.
it's soooo good!
you deserve a subscribe.

I ignore ads and read fans stuff
Hurray
I always ignore the "let me show you how to make $$$$$$$ easy"
So, since when did bloggers become important?
very good video
You sound like Kanye West!
lol
On point
He reminds me of Tommy Boy... lmao
