      I wonder how much of that is mistranslation too?
      An arrow is technically a “missile.” But that doesn’t mean it’s a javelin or a tomahawk.

      True. Even I would't confuse flares, a chain gun or that howitzer with missiles and bombs, and I have little insight in those kind of things.

    My shooting coach (i was on a competitive rifle team) was an engineer in the USAF and he said it was amazing when they would parachute tanks out of a C130. He said you had to hold on because it would instantly jump in altitude.
    Feeling the big guns fire off the sides of a gunship were similar he said. The plane could jump to the side when the big cannon fired.
    Hearing his stories were actually amazing.

      You mistook anti-guided missile chaff for flares. It is released to provide a much hotter heat signature to foil missiles being guided by heat seeking guidance systems.

    • @THEQuantumBacon
      @THEQuantumBacon 3 роки тому +28

      @@TomJones-uf5sl ...which is exactly what a flare is. The video showed flares. They are released in programable patterns and are extremely important for relatively low-flying and slow aircraft that are very vulnerable to shoulder mounted, short-range heat-seeking missiles (ManPads). Chaff are bundles of what is basically aluminum foil dispersed in programable patterns or manually to confuse the guidance of radar-guided missiles - which are more commonly used by fighters in medium to long range combat to shoot down other fighters or bombers. Sometimes, both will be launched simultaneously - if there are multiple threats and/or the possibility for both types of missiles to be launched, but you will almost always see strike craft launching flare patterns when making an attack run...just in case.

  • @SmolFenFen

    Those weren't guided missiles, that was a standard battery of flare. They are fired out in groups as decoys for heat seeking missiles. They are fired automatically or at the will of the pilot. Chaff (radar decoys made up of different lengths of metal fibers) is also fired automatically/by the pilot, when radar lock is detected.

    I'm a USAF veteran. The nickname for the specific C-130 flying gunship is called "Puff The Magic Dragon". That gatling gun will shred anything it points at. It's computer-stabilized t say on target as the aircraft circles the target area. And that weapon they kept referring to as a "missile" is a canon.

  • @lookronjon
    @lookronjon 3 роки тому +1

    This aircraft rains death down on our enemies. It has several Predecessors and it has grown more lethal with every modification. You can run from it but you cannot hide. The first one was called Puff the magic dragon. Used in SE Asia. It was very effective. The latest gunships are super effective.

    The plane you saw is an AC-130 Spooky Ground Support Gunship. It has:
    105mm Cannon
    40mm Autocannon
    25mm Minigun
    All used to support ground troops who need heavy fire on a target.

    The air dominance of the United States is rather intimidating. My understanding is that the AC-130 gunship is one of the scariest things you can hear coming in a conflict. There’s much more high tech than that plane, but it is like a flying tank.

    As a former weapons specialist in the USAF, this guy would stain his long johns if he knew what today's USAF could rain down upon North Korea if he need ever came around. I served in the Air Force from '68 to '72, including a voluntary tour in Vietnam in '69-70, and even what we had then would have given them pretty much all they could stand and then some. And, that was a drop in a bucket to what is flying in today's Air Force. Keep'em Flying, Guys!!!

    This gun has a literal field cannon on its side, the 105 mm mortar, which has enough recoil to lift a car. The minigun (or missile launcher, thanks PD, lol) is 20-25 mm (forget the exact #), plus it has a 40 mm mounted as well. Absolutely insane aircraft, but it feels like a precursor of something even more magnificent, sorta like the old Dreadnought or Ironclad battleships. Unfortunately, I feel like we may never see what comes after this generation of gunship, purely due to the lack of necessity for something new.

    I was raised under the threat of North Korean artillery, the largest array of heavy artillery the world had ever seen along a border. Do not think, not even for one moment, that the North Koreans cannot inflict damage to the South, or US forces stationed there. We took it very seriously then, perhaps more so now. Sure, their capabilities are low in tech, but one cannot disregard the sheer destructive force they have on their side of the DMZ.

    I wish they would explain to him that those "missiles" were actually "chaff" used to confuse heat-seeking missiles. The yellow from behind the artillery unit is to protect the troop from being hit by the barrel blowback, not to stop the round from coming backward. Lastly, Stealth planes don't defeat radar because they are so fast. Stealth functions in 3 ways, by scattering the radar waves away from the source, 2nd with radar absorbing surfaces, and 3rd, tactically. Radar jamming planes are deployed with stealth aircraft. By jamming they reduce the radar's effective range, thus, allowing the stealth aircraft to fly in and out of the reduced coverage of multiple deployed radars.

I was stationed in Japan in 2012 when relations were really heating up. We had to learn to ID every North Korean weapon, vehicle, and aircraft by sight in order to relay reconnaissance. We even trained on how to use their rifles in case we ever needed to pick one up on the battlefield.

    I'm a korean american and I love all your videos. Ive watched so many and as a military enthusiast it really makes me happy to see all these videos of N.Korean military personnel doing food and of them watching American Firepower. HOWEVER, you really really need someone to properly relay the information correctly WITH the correct subtitles. There are many english/korean bilinguals around the world and definitely in S.Korea but it seems you guys are just typing korean text into google translate and just copy and pasting whatever it spits out. On top of that, the information about the weapons systems shown in "real videos" are not being properly articulated and its giving the interviewees misinformation and its also annoying the audience.
    You have a great channel and this channel can grow even larger but these are little things that need to change if you want the channel to grow larger. People wont continue to watch if the subtitles are so incorrect and theres so much misinformation in it as well.

      If she had given the numbers on the thing and described what it does, it would have been more horrifying. Also, some of those shots are just anti-missile chafe. The tactical pattern the US has used in most places in recent years: 1. take out air defense and radar with stealthy bombers and tomahawks flying 15 ft. above the treeline. 2. a few days later, send in limited troops to educate locals for the resistance and bomb the hell out of military installations. 3. Send in A-10's and AC-130's to support the local resistance, bomb as needed.

      This comment should be pinned to the top of this video.
      There aren't any missiles (rocket powered, in the sense of militaristic applications), and the lack of description for the weapons on this platform are probably non-existent regarding his questions. If they did describe it to him, it's most likely ill explained or even just flat out false.
      That aircraft is a flying apocalypse for anything on the ground, and there simply isn't much anything on the ground can do about it. The fact that he doesn't understand or know those are flares or anti-missile chafe is interesting. Either NK just doesn't train their air force well (was he an actual pilot or administrative some other officer), or their equipment is just so obsolete that they don't properly equip their aircraft. It's probably both, but I think you're doing a disservice to your channel and your interviewees by not properly informing them of the content you're showing them to offer commentary. If you want to demoralize a ground force then the AC130 and the A-10 are two very good ways of doing that, and it seems like a lot of that was missed in this video.
