Could say Namco's very own SoulEdge/SoulCalibur is WeaponLord's spiritual successor since many of its gameplay mechanics live on in that franchise. That's not even covering many WL mechanics popularized by other fighting games too lol

Interestingly enough, this was the first and only game to be released with X-Band in mind (a modem that allowed you to play online on Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis) I believe it is the only game that has the Xband logo on boxart.
This looks like a fun game, shame I missed out on it originally. Graphically the SNES definitely wins this round, better color, slightly more detailed backgrounds, but the Genny version still looks amazing too and in some cases had the better color saturation. Graphics: SNES has the color edge, but Genesis holds it's own. Sound: Clarity I have to give it to the Genesis. Even the voice samples sound better on Sega. But I'll give the instrumentation to the SNES. I've played both versions, and both play just about the same, but I'll give the button layout to Sega. That 6 button controller was the best out there at the time. Anyway, just my 2 cents. Oh, and FIRST!!!
It may seem that way of the voicing being louder and clearer but it's because the voicing intends to interrupt or overlap the music in the background. It's very common on most genesis games. If you listen carefully the music lowered when the announcer's speaks while in the Snes the voicing and music is just balanced.
@@Theshark15z Well, if the music on the Genesis wasn't pure FM, that would be true. But, they are using the 6th channel as PCM for voices/sound effects. But I think this is using GEMS. If they had written their own driver, or used another where devs have figured out how to split the PCM channel, software mix, or as in Mega Turrican's case, add another channel, the music could have been so much better. But most western composers were lazy with the Genesis, and just did the bare minimum.

O processador do Snes tinha um clock menor porém compensava em mais ciclos de processamento, e era difícil os desenvolvedores utilizarem o seu full potencial. Mas tem vários exemplos onde isso foi feito. O processador do Mega era usado em todos os PCs voltados a jogos da época. Conhecido e facílimo de usar. Prova disso que tem amador aí fazendo joguinhos até hoje. Enquanto o processador do Snes foi usado em computador da Apple. Um alienígena. Não sei de onde vc tirou que jogos de luta eram melhores no mega. Poderia citar exemplos? Pois RPG, Luta e Corrida eram justamente o forte do Snes onde seu potencial gráfico e sonoro podia ser mostrado sem qualquer dificuldade

Mas enfim, independente disso, eu prefiro o Snes pq acho sua biblioteca de jogos bem superior do que do Mega, e por eu ser fã de RPG, Mega Man, Zelda, Metroid, do Chrono Trigger ser meu jogo favorito, etc.

I'm not sure, but the Mega Drive version looks to have more frames of animation? Sound is better on the Mega Drive, but that could just be me loving the sound of the ym2612. Can someone else please check the frames out? Also, is the Mega Drive version 324 high? That's why the border is holding the energy bars at the top? Cheers.
On megadrive, gameplay is more fluid and colors are darker which makes the game look better imo. But on SNES the sounds and music is much much better. Honnestly idk which version is really the best.
A shame that the Mega Drive version doesn't run in the system's higher resolution (320x224 pixels) but instead runs in the same limited resolution as SNES (256x224 pixels) :/ both versions look good but the Mega Drive one would have looked even nicer in 320x224 pixels... Anyway it's a game that I've yet to play but from what I've heard, SNES version has broken combos. Also I wouldn't be surprised if the Mega Drive version has better controls, more responsive, just like many other multiplats. I will see about all of this but I can already thank you for the video, silenig ;)
Agreed about the resolution. Yes, the MD is faster and the execution of special movies and fatalities is slightly less tricky, but I also found the AI to be a bit harder, especially the final boss. It's a fascinating game, worth exploring and personally I really liked the art style and the audio - it captures the atmosphere of comics like Savage Sword or Slaine, in 16-bit form. More responsive, huh? Did the SNES controller have latency issues? Just asking because I'm not familiar with the controller's hardware on either system.
Depending on the scenario, Bane's stage is much darker in the Mega Drive version than in the lighter SNES version. Already when defeating the final boss, the background scenario has more details in the Mega Drive version of the SNES version, which only shows gray fingers, pretending to be shadows. Mega Drive version is the dark side and an interesting game.
The first stage looks decidedly better on the SNES with additional parallax in the background plus shimmering for the background flare and the flame glowing in the arena. The rest of the levels look about on par with each other apart from slight variations in palette choices for the most part. Some of the fighters have a bit more colour on the SNES though, as does the map screen when levels are beaten, and you can actually see the level backgrounds behind the HUD rather than it being obscured by it. Overall I'd say the SNES wins. Apart from that very last logo screen, strangely. :-o

So, Nintendid from the getgo (and with slightly better graphics and sound too)--and I suspect you actually already knew this but were just being a fanboy.

Se a versão do Mega Drive estivesse na resolução 320x240 , o HUD poderia ser construído com sprites, eliminando as horríveis barras negras. Mesmo como essa desvantagem o Mega tem a melhor versão, tem muito melhor resposta dos controles jogabilidade é 90% de um jogo de luta.
Gostei das 2 versões!! Só joguei a do Mega!! Achei demais!! Eu gosto mais do som do Mega nesse jogo mais pesado e alto!! A do SNES é mais aveludado mais muito abafado!! Nos gráficos o SNES leva vantagem!! Tem mais efeitos de Paralax!! Entre outros detalhes nas cores que ele leva vantagem!! Mas são ótimas versões!
You know I got to say I'd rather go with the Genesis. The Nintendo music seems muffled or like it's being covered or something. As well as it sounds seem a little dim. The Genesis is just comes out and the blade sounds and everything just sound probably about four times better. Yeah there are a few things extra and the backgrounds on the SNES but Genesis always ass rapes on the side-scroller fighting games
I think fighting games is one of the Genesis weaker genres, it does have some good multiplatform games that are better than on Snes (not all of them though) but that's about it and it's number of non multiplatform fighting games that are worth playing is really small next to the Snes.
@@oscarzxn4067 The Snes definitely gets the edge in the VS fighter genre. The Genesis was respectable getting solid ports of the Street Fighter's and MK's but didn't have the qauntity or high end exslusives outside of Eternal Champions compared to the Snes in the genre. Thankfully, if you're a Sega diehard the Saturn's fighting VS fighter libarary is an incredible strength and the genre only got better and more refined throughout the 90's.

Great points. Funny story. Back when the game had released and unfortunately failed. Whenever it would come up in conversation. People would always say. "Yeah that game looked great and sounded amazing, but the gameplay control was kinda whack" I would always tell people, you have to play it on Genesis, on that system the game just works perfectly. And they would look at me like... "Bruh, if it played badly on the SNES...the Genesis? C'mon..." lol this would infuriate me...
@@BendApparatus Genesis games are usually faster than SNES and this game on that console had a very stiff control, it was very difficult to do the special moves and even moving the character from side to side was tough...The game itself on both systems was very good overall, and on both had a very interesting arcade quality. The background music was killer (even more on SNES) but Genesis was good too. Don't know what you think but I believe it's a 50/50 win this time...
@@carlossantavilla2997 I preferred the Genesis version. I own both... I find the SNES version as you said...stiff and difficult to even move the characters...on top of that. The Ai is programed very cheap. It's relentless and uses poke tactics to corner you and reverses any attacks immediately into massive combos. The Genesis version on the other hand controls much smoother and loose. Also the AI is not only less aggressive but also engages the players differently by using normal attacks that allows for reversals and counters therefore functioning as a makeshift tutorial the game sorely lacks. tl;dr... I always have fun playing the Genesis version. Playing the SNES version is painfully frustrating. Also...the official Genesis 6 button fighting pad is a MUST...
@@devilzdandruff9199 Maybe in terms of your preference to the look, but in most stages the SNES is technically superior with more colours, an additional layer or parallax and a HUD that isn't stuck on a big black border that covers up like 1/5 of the screen.
@Robert Anthony Yeah, what I mean is there's not good reason for that being the case, even if it is the case. With some optimized code, the SNES version should be as fast and responsive as say Street Fighter II on SNES, which feels great. So it's ultimately just bad programming and/or design.
Wow, the Genesis version has its moments of sounding better in the music department. That's a shame because this game came out after Final Fantasy 5, if not after FF6 and that game had WAY better music. Maybe Brian Schmidt was just no Nobuo Uematsu. And despite Nintendo's policy of censorship (even though they weren't the only ones), the end of Korr's finisher is surprisingly more violent but honestly, the music could've been so much better. Sorry, Brian Schmidt (3-27-2020).
If you look closely, they both have limited view field. The Genesis version has one wide bar at the top, while the SNES version has a thin black strip at top and bottom.

After final analysis it looks like the SNES wins graphically on most levels, with strangely the end logo screen being one time where the Genesis looks dramatically better with the wave effect and flames. Kinda makes it strange that both versions went with the static logo screen at the start of the game.
snes version is overall better, more render area, better sound, better graphics, maybe the framerate in genesis is more solid, and the color palette in bane scenary I feel is better in genesis too.
Snes has better colors, and soem more details, visually looks better, sound is a tie (but it depends on personal taste, i like a lil bit more the snes sound), buuuuuuuuuut the reason why the genesis version is better is because you have 7 playable characters on the go for story mode instead of the 6 snes has.

nope. genesis games often run at higher resolution than snes. look at toy story genny vs snes. genesis version has higher horizontal resolution. Look at videos from ua-cam.com/users/levelonerules. Many Genesis games run faster. One-person-dev indie dev also converted castle wolfenstein for genesis. It runs so much faster and smoother. The same person also made fzero.. called G zero and star fox... without super fx chip needed. Capcom dev Shinji Mikami (directed Resident evil on ps1) also liked Genesis version of Aladdin better.
i grew up believing snes was more powerful too. I got genny first, then bought snes to play its vast rpg library. Super Street fighter for example. The genesis version ROM size was so huge at 40mbit, while snes rom was at 32mbit. The were tons of missing animation on snes version.

E que no Mega o sétimo personagem no canto e o último boss que já vem habilitado, no Snes precisa fazer um código pra habilitar ele ou então simplesmente fazer final que ele já aparece na seleção de escolha no modo história. Mas se vc colocar direto no versus nem código precisa fazer pq ele já aparece normalmente.
Ta louco o MD ganha praticamente em tudo, as músicas e vozes estão bem melhores no MD, fora a jogabilidade melhor também. Som do Snes é sempre a mesma bosta, as famosas cornetas abafadas kkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
This is a SNES game ported amply to the Mega Drive. The music in the Mega Drive was not done with much care though. There’s like, almost no difference. But it’s an SNES game so it makes good use of subtle shading and the music plays to the SNES sound chip’s strengths so SNES wins by a small margin like who gives a flying fuck I don’t know.
Genesis plays better, smoother i think the controls are easier on the genesis IIRC. But that music is horrible! SNES has much better sound. I like the brighter colors as well. I think the BG looks better on SNES too. I've always wonderd if a playstation version was made, it would be the best of both worlds and a full voice cast lime Castlevania SOTN.
Both these are kinda terrible lol. Genesis music is the same terrible midi sound as all other Genesis games ever, and samples sound clipped, like tearing velcro. The SNES version sounds muffled AF, and it could do a lot better had they just spent the extra money on a bigger cartridge. Both games seem to play really slow and awkward.
I think it does have better blood effects. Notice after the corpse on snes version when the corpse of the victim was laying it kept squirting blood even after fight... I didn't notice that on the Genesis. Sega version did have the effects but it stopped when the fight was over, but the SNES kept bleeding

A do snes tem realmente na parte tecnica nesse caso é superior em tudo, eles rodam na mesma resolução, mas o Mega coloca mais barras laterais pretas, tem mais efeitos, a animação é mais fluida aqui, o som é melhor mas nem tanto, na gameplay realmente no MD é mais facil de jogar mas acredito que fizeram isso para facilitar o jogo, ele veio depois para MD e possivelmente já haviam reclamações na dificuldade de dar os golpes, mas é uma comparação interressante, normalmente o Snes nã ocostuma superar em quase tudo assim, o engraçado é ver a imparcialidade, se fosse o oposto, teria uma lista detalhada de cada feito que o MD fez! kkkkkk
SNES can add more color on screen than SEGA. The pixilation on the SNES is better. The far background for the SNES has more depth while SEGAs looks flat. SNES for the win.

Wayyy better finisher on genesis. More fighter frames on genesis. 6 button and smoother gameplay. More blood splatter on genesis and better weapon sounds. Snes wins only in colors and a few levels is all i can say.
All graphics seems better on the Snes... Most os scenarios show at least one extra parallax layer and the color palete is much better. The sound effects are great on Genesis, but the music is "synthetic", unnatural. The music in Snes are pure orchestra.

Se a do Mega saiu depois é bem possível terem suavizado mais a jogabilidade mesmo. Esse jogo é conhecido por ter um sistema de combos complexo demais.

I'm not sure, but the Mega Drive version looks to have more frames of animation? Sound is better on the Mega Drive, but that could just be me loving the sound of the ym2612. On megadrive, gameplay is more fluid and colors are darker which makes the game look better imo. But on SNES the sounds and music is much much better.

A shame that the Mega Drive version doesn't run in the system's higher resolution (320x224 pixels) but instead runs in the same limited resolution as SNES (256x224 pixels) :/ both versions look good but the Mega Drive one would have looked even nicer in 320x224 pixels...
Anyway it's a game that I've yet to play but from what I've heard, SNES version has broken combos. Also I wouldn't be surprised if the Mega Drive version has better controls, more responsive, just like many other multiplats. I will see about all of this but I can already thank you for the video, silenig ;)
Agreed about the resolution. Yes, the MD is faster and the execution of special movies and fatalities is slightly less tricky, but I also found the AI to be a bit harder, especially the final boss. It's a fascinating game, worth exploring and personally I really liked the art style and the audio - it captures the atmosphere of comics like Savage Sword or Slaine, in 16-bit form. Thanx for the infos! And yeah, the game has nice atmosphere. I have always been fan of heroic fantasy, a theme which works particularly well with video games. WeaponLord has some impressive arts, you can tell that the developers wanted to make something special.

Depending on the scenario, Bane's stage is much darker in the Mega Drive version than in the lighter SNES version.
Already when defeating the final boss, the background scenario has more details in the Mega Drive version of the SNES version, which only shows gray fingers, pretending to be shadows.
Mega Drive version is the dark side and an interesting game.

genesis for me its got that vibe do you know what i am talking about, both is good almost a draw, the genesis voice over are awesome!
The first stage looks decidedly better on the SNES with additional parallax in the background plus shimmering for the background flare and the flame glowing in the arena. The rest of the levels look about on par with each other apart from slight variations in palette choices for the most part. Some of the fighters have a bit more colour on the SNES though, as does the map screen when levels are beaten, and you can actually see the level backgrounds behind the HUD rather than it being obscured by it. Overall I'd say the SNES wins. Apart from that very last logo screen, strangely. :-o

It turns out you could always play as all the characters but you simply had to enter a cheat for the last one on SNES, and the SNES version was the original version with the Genesis version worked on later in the developement, so I presume that gave them a chance to add a thing or two they maybe hadn't planned originally for the SNES version.
So, Nintendid from the getgo (and with slightly better graphics and sound too)--and I suspect you actually already knew this but were just being a fanboy.

You know I got to say I'd rather go with the Genesis. The Nintendo music seems muffled or like it's being covered or something. As well as it sounds seem a little dim. The Genesis is just comes out and the blade sounds and everything just sound probably about four times better. Yeah there are a few things extra and the backgrounds on the SNES but Genesis always ass rapes on the side-scroller fighting games
I think fighting games is one of the Genesis weaker genres, it does have some good multiplatform games that are better than on Snes (not all of them though) but that's about it and it's number of non multiplatform fighting games that are worth playing is really small next to the Snes.
@@oscarzxn4067 The Snes definitely gets the edge in the VS fighter genre. The Genesis was respectable getting solid ports of the Street Fighter's and MK's but didn't have the qauntity or high end exslusives outside of Eternal Champions compared to the Snes in the genre.
Thankfully, if you're a Sega diehard the Saturn's fighting VS fighter libarary is an incredible strength and the genre only got better and more refined throughout the 90's.

@@BendApparatus Genesis games are usually faster than SNES and this game on that console had a very stiff control, it was very difficult to do the special moves and even moving the character from side to side was tough...The game itself on both systems was very good overall, and on both had a very interesting arcade quality. The background music was killer (even more on SNES) but Genesis was good too. Don't know what you think but I believe it's a 50/50 win this time...

I find the SNES version as you said...stiff and difficult to even move the characters...on top of that. The Ai is programed very cheap. It's relentless and uses poke tactics to corner you and reverses any attacks immediately into massive combos.
The Genesis version on the other hand controls much smoother and loose. Also the AI is not only less aggressive but also engages the players differently by using normal attacks that allows for reversals and counters therefore functioning as a makeshift tutorial the game sorely lacks.

@Robert Anthony Yeah, what I mean is there's not good reason for that being the case, even if it is the case. With some optimized code, the SNES version should be as fast and responsive as say Street Fighter II on SNES, which feels great. So it's ultimately just bad programming and/or design.

Wow, the Genesis version has its moments of sounding better in the music department. That's a shame because this game came out after Final Fantasy 5, if not after FF6 and that game had WAY better music. Maybe Brian Schmidt was just no Nobuo Uematsu. And despite Nintendo's policy of censorship (even though they weren't the only ones), the end of Korr's finisher is surprisingly more violent but honestly, the music could've been so much better. Sorry, Brian Schmidt (3-27-2020).
Why does the SNES version have borders at the top and bottom when the SNES and Genesis have the same vertical resolution?
If you look closely, they both have limited view field. The Genesis version has one wide bar at the top, while the SNES version has a thin black strip at top and bottom.

After final analysis it looks like the SNES wins graphically on most levels, with strangely the end logo screen being one time where the Genesis looks dramatically better with the wave effect and flames. Kinda makes it strange that both versions went with the static logo screen at the start of the game.

snes version is overall better, more render area, better sound, better graphics, maybe the framerate in genesis is more solid, and the color palette in bane scenary I feel is better in genesis too.

Snes has better colors, and soem more details, visually looks better, sound is a tie (but it depends on personal taste, i like a lil bit more the snes sound), buuuuuuuuuut the reason why the genesis version is better is because you have 7 playable characters on the go for story mode instead of the 6 snes has.

I never knew how under powered the Genesis was compared to the SNES. I never really played Genesis much though, never knew anyone that had one.
nope. genesis games often run at higher resolution than snes. look at toy story genny vs snes. genesis version has higher horizontal resolution. Look at videos from ua-cam.com/users/levelonerules. Many Genesis games run faster. One-person-dev indie dev also converted castle wolfenstein for genesis. It runs so much faster and smoother. The same person also made fzero.. called G zero and star fox... without super fx chip needed. Capcom dev Shinji Mikami (directed Resident evil on ps1) also liked Genesis version of Aladdin better.
i grew up believing snes was more powerful too. I got genny first, then bought snes to play its vast rpg library. Super Street fighter for example. The genesis version ROM size was so huge at 40mbit, while snes rom was at 32mbit. The were tons of missing animation on snes version.

E que no Mega o sétimo personagem no canto e o último boss que já vem habilitado, no Snes precisa fazer um código pra habilitar ele ou então simplesmente fazer final que ele já aparece na seleção de escolha no modo história. This is a SNES game ported amply to the Mega Drive. The music in the Mega Drive was not done with much care though.
There’s like, almost no difference.
But it’s an SNES game so it makes good use of subtle shading and the music plays to the SNES sound chip’s strengths so SNES wins by a small margin like who gives a flying fuck I don’t know.
The controls and difficulty were readjusted on Sega. The port actually benefits genesis version.

Genesis music is the same terrible midi sound as all other Genesis games ever, and samples sound clipped, like tearing velcro.
The SNES version sounds muffled AF, and it could do a lot better had they just spent the extra money on a bigger cartridge.
Both games seem to play really slow and awkward.

I think it does have better blood effects. Notice after the corpse on snes version when the corpse of the victim was laying it kept squirting blood even after fight... I didn't notice that on the Genesis. Sega version did have the effects but it stopped when the fight was over, but the SNES kept bleeding

A do snes tem realmente na parte tecnica nesse caso é superior em tudo, eles rodam na mesma resolução, mas o Mega coloca mais barras laterais pretas, tem mais efeitos, a animação é mais fluida aqui, o som é melhor mas nem tanto, na gameplay realmente no MD é mais facil de jogar mas acredito que fizeram isso para facilitar o jogo, ele veio depois para MD e possivelmente já haviam reclamações na dificuldade de dar os golpes, mas é uma comparação interressante, normalmente o Snes nã ocostuma superar em quase tudo assim, o engraçado é ver a imparcialidade, se fosse o oposto, teria uma lista detalhada de cada feito que o MD fez! kkkkkk

SNES can add more color on screen than SEGA. The pixilation on the SNES is better. The far background for the SNES has more depth while SEGAs looks flat. SNES for the win.

All graphics seems better on the Snes... Most os scenarios show at least one extra parallax layer and the color palete is much better. The sound effects are great on Genesis, but the music is "synthetic", unnatural. The music in Snes are pure orchestra.
In terms of overall presentation, graphics and sound, I'd say the SNES wins. But which version actually controls and plays better?
