All Queen members were very much talented.
Freddie IS the greatest singer in history, he has a power in his voice like no other, having this same power in most ranges. An incredible songwriter. An amazing pianist. He didn't use to play guitar a lot, the only song he plays the guitar is in Crazy Little Thing Called Love, but he wrote the basic chords of Ogre Battle on the guitar, so he must have some talent. He also has two solo albums.
Brian May is really talented in various types of string instruments. Some exotic examples are koto, harp and banjolele. Needless to say he is one of the top guitarists of all time. He also plays the piano with a really beautiful approach. At early stages he had a really sweet and effective voice in the lower ranges, but as he progresses (especially in his solo career after Freddie's death) he develops a really powerful voice, becoming more emotive and also providing more rock'n'roll feel. He also is an amazing songwriter being the second with most mosts songs written for Queen. He also has two solo albums and a mini album.
John is also really talented, having being a rhythm guitarist at first and then discovering the bass which he would come to be one of the best of all times on. He also plays acoustic guitar in many Queen songs and sometimes even electric guitar, he even has a solo in Misfire. He also plays piano, one example is You're My Best Friend. His songwriting is really a highlight, despite being the one with least songs in Queen, almost every of his songs were single-deserving, and a lot of them actually ended up being singles. Sadly he doesn't have a big solo catalog, one of the reasons is that he didn't consider his voice proper to sing.
Roger Taylor is by far the most multi-talented when it comes to instruments. He played everything, piano, bass, guitars and drums, of course. In fact his first solo works, featured him playing all the instruments and singing everything. He has 6 solo albums and 3 albums as a leader of his side band, The Cross. His songwriting didn't have one of the great starts, but he developed that and became a great songwriter. And of course I have to mention his voice. In the 70s he had an incomparable falsetto voice, really angelic. Sadly, he lost it. But he also has an extraordinary Rock'n'Roll raspy voice, having the real Rock'n'Roll voice of the band. Not being limited to this, his "normal" voice can also be very adapted.

"These Are the Days of Our Lives" I think is the most accurate documentary out there on Queen. There might be others that I am not aware of but that one give a more detailed of the events. Do not go by the movie for cronologic events though. It is what it is, a movie.

Brian May uses an old English coin a six pence he has done for years. He also has a PhD in astrophysics and is working for NASA. Great reaction please check out that song( time waits for nobody) it could have been written for today.

Freddie is, without a doubt, a perfectionist. That was not the end where you cut it off. If you carried on, you'd know the last two words of the song are FRIED CHICKEN 🍗 which he throws in just for fun. At one point during the session, they were discussing what to have for lunch and finally decided on FRIED CHICKEN 🍗 SO there you have it 😊❤

People born in India and in Zanzibar at the time were automatically British citizens as both were colonial holdings of the British Empire.
(Freddie’s father worked at the British Colonial Office and that’s why the Bulsaras were living in Zanzibar when Freddie and his sister Kashmira were born there) - their British citizenship is also why they were able to settle in England when revolution broke out in Zanzibar and the family had to flee.

I just LIVE for this...the MECHANICS of song making... the IN STUDIO activity by an artist or a band. As I have always known : Freddie is a musical MASTERMIND MONSTER....there will NEVER be another. 💎💎💎💎💎💎

  • @sherryheim5504
    @sherryheim5504 10 місяців тому +3

The band is on their best behavior because they know they are being recorded. According to each of them, they fought all the time in the studio even to the point of being incredibly mean and vicious, even John could be absolutely rude. In the end, it made for the best possible recordings but as they were going through it they each were threatening to leave the band and one of them would storm out. Once they cooled off, they always came back because each of them knew that they were a group where the whole was greater than the sum of the parts. The three of them (Freddie, Roger and Brian) had some success as solo artists but nothing that compared to the powerful impact on music that Queen enjoyed. Freddie really isn't British, he is Asian, he was born in Zanzibar and grew up in a private boarding school in India. I believe since it was an English style boarding school that they did speak English there which is why Freddie speaks better English than most Englanders. Freddie's family all seemed to speak very good English as well so it is possible that Freddie was always bilingual. Yes, Freddie and Brian pushed each other and argued quite a bit but each knew the other was capable so often they would just back off and let the other one have it. It was Brian and Roger who fought the most, they were horrible to one another. According to Brian if it had just been he and Roger the band would have never lasted. Interesting since it was Roger and Brian who were there in the beginning with Smile and are now the last to still in the band. Brian says that he and Roger get along much better these days as they respect one another but in the Queen days, they were at each other's throats all the time. When you are in a band, you have to understand what that means. Your music has to suit the band and it has to be comfortable for the singer as well. So there should be input from all sides in order to create something that is reflective of the band. Freddie is not always the one in mixing room, it depends who is recording at that time. Sometimes it will be Brian and he will be the one directing, most often the final say goes to the writer of the song.

      To clarify :
-- "Nothing But Blue" was released on Brian May's 1992 solo album *Back To The Light*
-- "Old Friends" (Written by Roger) was released on Taylor's 1994 solo album *Happiness?* and is a lovely tribute to their close friendship.
-- "No One But You (Only the Good Die Young)" was written by Brian. Brian and Roger share the lead vocals, and this song marks the very last time that John Deacon participated in the band. This song appears on Queen's 1997 compilation album *Queen Rocks*

This video is a good presentation of the hard studio work, the boring parts of the recording session when 2-3 lines or notes have been discussed hours long, parts have been played repetitively days long, arguments about the personal ideas, besides having fun. I have never thought before, that to give a birth to a song so difficult was. Freddie’s and Brian’s obvious perfectionism could have been sometimes annoying, but they were right, because the result speaks for itself. Queen let video directors Rudi Dolezal (I’m Going Slightly Mad) and Hannes Rossacher (Freddie Mercury - Untold Story) have exclusive access to the studios for 2 weeks, to film the recording process. The footage was used in the promo video to the track, used in The Magic Years volume 1, & a bonus feature on the Greatest Video Hits II. The B-side song to One Vision is called Blurred Vision (mostly an instrumental version of One Vision). 😁

So glad to see your enjoying QUEEN. The story goes Freddie “performed” best after a lover’s argument, 1985 Live Aid Wembley Stadium, an American singer made a sexual slur when Freddie walked by, to walk on stage, Freddie half-Nelsoned the guy. Apparently the little guy was like, shit, I knew he had me! Carry on, QUEEN never got big in America, shame! IMHO🎉

This doesn't seem like the One Vision 'in the making of' documentary I've enjoyed for a year or so...seems to be added new input over-layed from Brian....and Freddie's work w/Roger was cut; plus there was a piece with John Deacon and Mack which wasn't here. I'll research. Freddie's input was patient, honest, respectful, constructive insight.

Here's an interesting factoid about One Vision. When he says "God works in mysterious ways", it was actually left in the song, believe it or not. It's mangled into the interesting sounds at the beginning of the song. You can hear it if you listen very closely.

With all the pausing that you do to comment (which is fine)… can you PLEASE see if you can have the video image just freeze-but-remain-visible-to-viewers? (I have a REEAALLYYY hard time “sticking it out” thru a video reaction when the image keeps disappearing-and-reappearing.)

Yeah, totally get where you’re coming from and i think i can do that. Unfortunately i have to pause a lot due to UA-cam’s policy on using/reacting to other peoples content that’s not your own. Otherwise i’d just play the whole video and wait to comment at the end. Hope that clears things up :)

Huh ? “One Vision” was originally written by Roger as a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
      - Freddie and Brian helped tighten and improve the lyrics (the make them flow more easily for singing), but the band often helped each other in that manner
(John didn’t contribute *quite* as much to this one, as he was on holiday in Bali when they started working on it - but he jumped right in as soon as he got back)
