Battlefield marketing in a nutshell:
1. We are going back to our roots (No they are not)
2. We learned from our past mistakes (They did not)
3. We are innovating like never before (No innovation to be seen anywhere, just borrowed features from other games)
4. Introducing destructable environment (Only in marketing, false advertising)
5. This is what Battlefield is all about (Continues to show what BF is not about)
6. We respect our players and the time they put into our game (Introduces microtransactions and trend-chasing Fortnite/COD skins to unlock, breaking immersion of military shooter)
7. We are prepared to deliver the best BF experience yet (On launch day, servers are an absolute mess, no one gets to play day one, waiting for patches to fix the game)
Exactly. I hope it bombs so I can wait a year or 2 after release when it's actually fixed/finished (and at a reasonable price). But honestly, I know I would have moved on by then.

It’s crazy how “leadership” will take credit when it goes well, but then doesn’t realize it’s their fault when it goes badly
That’s… literally every human who has ever lived. 😂
Happy to take credit for what works however indirect their connection, desperate to avoid blame no matter how much it’s their fault.

Bioware was dead a long time ago, it's a walking corpse at this point. A sad reminder of how companies can lose their way.
Yeah bioware lost it's way back when mass effect 3 came out and had a terrible ending

While there is some talent at Bioware, you also can't deny that the writing was downright terrible...Yes, EA messed up, but also the work that the writers did was just not good at all...
It needs to be said over and over again: Keep activists out of gaming
If I were you, I would blame it on the Game Director more than anything. The Game Director also directs how the plot is written, so it's not entirely all seven of the game writers' fault.
@@BennyGoId That can be considered true; I just sometimes think it's too easy to blame the game directors instead of looking back and thinking, "Hmmm, maybe the writers just did a bad job".
But yes, the Game Director does steer the ship so that person can be at fault too.
@@BennyGoId The game writers are the ones who wrote the dialogue, the Game Director is just responsible for the general scope and vision for the project but does not directly control what each single developer is doing on such a large project, this's one of the issues with larger studios and why their games often feel so disjointed.
What the game director should of done was immediately fire the writers and hire new ones once they saw how terrible the script was, but I imagine what happened is that they couldn't get the budget approved for a new writing team to rewrite the entirety of that slop.
I wish people stopped defending incompetent devs and putting 100% of the blame on executives. Bioware had some incompetent devs that shouldn't have been nowhere near an AAA game project.
They teased full building destruction right before 2042 release. Don't trust them guys. Never pre order, wait for reviews, don't even buy week one. Show them you mean it, make them hurt.

Nah, the devs also share the blame, it's not all in the excecs and suits... The devs made choices that doomed the game as well, from writing to design to combat and so on. Do a bad job, get fired.
back in the 2000-2010 era, the culprit for bad mainstream games was most often greedy publishers forcing devs to rush products and put lot of pricey p2w mtx... now devs often share the blame too especially the writing department and hr...
Theres an important distinction to be made.
The devs in charge, the Leadership and team leads, directed those designs. They wrote the story boards and directed the designs.
The many devs who built what was ordered? They're not at fault nor do they deserve to be fired, they just did their job like any other worker does.
I mean that's true...where is the line drawn? I'm not saying leadership is or isn't to blame, but you can't blame EVERYTHING on just leadership; you can have bad writers and bad developers.
Exactly. Blaming solely the higher ups is such a smooth brain take.
Amen brother
Let's not kid ourselves here. The writing was fundamentally bad for Dragon Age, except for the stuff that came from earlier iterations of the game.
Ubisoft is having layoffs, Bioware is having layoffs. Its no big loss, neither company strives for excellence, this will make no difference.
No severed limbs in the Japanese version of AC Shadows is hilarious irony considering some of the best Japanese films to become popular in the West were samurai films famous for all those wacky scenes with arms and legs flying off and the classic blood spurts.

No, I think BioWare is a structural failure from the top to the bottom. It is a total loss situation, and EA should have just axed BioWare proper and put Mass Effect IP in a deep freeze, until some actual decent studio comes around to make that game.
Then people can stop buying EA Sports games and cause it to rightly perish. Then another company can buy it off the corpse via auction and make something good with the IP.
A heartening series of potential events; too bad we live in a shitty timeline.
@@derekstein6193hard to be optimist even about that. as bad as ea is, the only purchaser candidates are the likes of amazon, disney, microsoft, google, wb etc. so things will only get worse. mass effect is dead, but thankfully any and all indie companies could create their own space epic story.
its ironic and annoying since bioware themselves created mass effect because they wanted kotor they have full control over

Baldurs gate 3, cyberpunk, etc...also got censored for Japan. For the same reasons. This isn't new or exclusive to AC..... If you are going to report on the news don't do it with tunnel vision
Sure they censor their own games aswell. Like Resident Evil, sure they name them the Z editions so people know if they been censored or not there. But is weird as the majority of the gaming journalists were making this out to be bigger than it should be, especially with the examples you made which proves this was to be expected.

Dragon Age was not a last minute switch to single player.
That decision was made over 5 years ago. It was not long after Anthem came out, no surprise there.
That's last minute in modern game development time. The game's shit. Get over it.
@@Jeremy-k9t how long is modern game development time?

Let’s goo! These videos literally make my Monday blues feel that much more better. Love being able to stay productive as well as informed about all the things happening throughout the Newsweek.
13:54 If I remember correctly, In Jason schreier's interview of Bioware employees after Anthem, most of them said that the DA Inquisition was made same way like Anthem but was put together in last minute by pure luck. This spawned the term "Bioware Magic"; Bioware's talent to turn game to success in one year after fumbling 4 -6 years. The employees also said that the Dragon Age should have failed, so the Anthem wouldn't have happened.
Been watching your videos on and off for years, yall deserve a long vacation or somethin 😂
What kind of logic is this?
Game is great: The employees did a good job!
Game is awful: It wasn't the employee's fault!
F that. Unless you actually know what is actually happening in the studio (WHICH YOU DEFINITELY DO NOT) you can't rule out every single staff member either. Execs, suits, management shouldn't be exempt either but they're not making the game themselves now are they?
That’s Joe’s logic
@@jdswest9405and most people in the comments.
Except you don't get promoted for incompetence as a game dev, you do as an executive though.
In AAA's giant teams, a couple of slackers or incompetents won't ruin a game (except writers, each one writes his parts I suppose) but design directors, whoever decides the amount of Q&A and what to do with it, or the art director of Concord...
They are not making the game, however they are in charge of it and watching the updates as the game progress. If they cant even tell something is wrong then they are useless in their position and shouldnt have it.
game industries destroying many beloved series' stories and characters, then they tell the fans: "its yours now (go make fanworks and headcanons for those IPs)" but the IPs are still owned (legally) by those game companies...
Hey Joe Joe, I would love a breakdown of the battlefield video on how you actually think of it.
Big-time props to the Team for the Air Warrior reference!
bad company 2 maps were insane.
Honestly this is gonna sound weird but BC2 felt more Milsim than Arcade. In a good way. Now it just feels like COD.
It's kind of weird that they are blocking adult themed games when the PC-98 had a lot of untranslated Eroges in the 90s in their country.
Japan has always had strict pornography laws, it's just that their laws are incredibly weird compared to the western world.
Yall pretending like the trans game director and radical ideology wasnt a huge issue with Veilguard is wild. Stick your head in the sand some more, please.
It's the whole left vs right agenda thing. He always points out one side but not the other. People have called him out on this multiple times
Grifters go away please

It wasn't. The entire game was shit, not just the cringe dialog your kind obsessed over.
@@NadeemShekh-uy9znVeilguard supports were spamming that word to death. "Grifters" look how that all turned out.
This may be a hot take, but I think even Dragon Age: Inquisition was a dip in quality. It was still fun, don't get me wrong, but I found myself caring less about my party members in Inquisition compared to the previous games. By the end of the game especially, I was noticing I didn't care about half of them, and I couldn't figure out why. That, and the timers were obnoxious.
Inquisition imo was a step down and step away from the DA formula that made it popular. Did not appeal to me at all and neither did veilguard which was an even further departure.
i couldnt get into it, and i didnt even like DA2 Once i noticed the were just reusing the same few dungeons over and over
Damn it feels like this is the first AJS video I've been recommended in months!
The worrying thing about the The Veilguards failure is that EA is probably looking at it and going "Well this must've failed because we didn't make it a live service game" or some bullshit like that

You could make the argument, that BioWare never recovered from the Mass Effect 3 controversy.
Can we get commanders back in battlefield please seriously!!!
BF 2 was awesome
No because that means that one person is above others in terms of gameplay importance, can't have that in Current year!
(Remember it took them a year to add a scoreboard for 2042 because all of us were bitching the entire time, their reason for not having one was literally "“The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for playing as different heroes regardless of skill" aka they didn't want people to feel bad when the score showed they sucked)
I’ve been telling my friend group that Ubisoft is dying before our eyes. Glad to hear Joe has the same thought.
If Zampella is behind this BF, I have full confidence that it’s gonna rock.

If they don't bring back evolution in the new Battlefield I'm not even going to purchase it. The idea that they don't do that anymore with all the data streaming technology and super fast ssds is ridiculous. Tell me you're not trying without telling me you're not trying
Dragon age is in me? Oh god, it all makes sense now! It's a Xenomorph!
Regarding 343i, the old leadership that gave us 4, 5, and Infinite are out. No one from those top roles are left. Now the guy who led the recovery of MCC is in charge of the studio. So I am willing to give them a chance with how well he brought that disaster back from the brink.
Led the recovery? Wasnt it shut down on xbox?
@jacobellis2313 What? No? It's still online for Xbox and PC. And will likely come to PlayStation in the next year. But they have stopped producing any new content. But that could change with the PS5 launch.
When I say led the recovery I mean that the game was borderline unplayable when it first came out on Xbox. They fixed a fundamentally broken game. And now they are in charge of 343i. So here's hoping.

AJ's belief in EA is adorable 😂
Even if Ubisoft manages to come up with a winning formula they'll just run it into the ground like they did Assassin's Creed. They're cooked.

I don’t even want to hope, but the few seconds of Battlefield look like what I want. The closer to BF3 they get the better. No hero shooter crap and a campaign that makes you feel like a soldier, not an action hero.

Japanese banks blocking payment is likely a legality issue. Those games tend to get uncensored for Steam, but it's illegal to sell uncensored games in Japan, so even though it's technically being sold overseas, there's a massive question mark when it comes to a Japanese developer receiving payment _in Japan_ for a product that's technically illegal _in Japan._
It's similar to how Japanese adult actresses are having a legal battle with producers who release uncensored versions of their films overseas, because a) they didn't agree to that in the contract and b) there's concern they will be the ones who will get in legal trouble when these uncensored versions make it back into Japan, because it's their clams breaking the law.

The political spectrum of our society caused BioWare to over saturate Dragon Age with their political viewpoints. Taash has moments where it feels like there is two different writers writing her and those two writers ain’t talking to each other. The politics trumped good storytelling and it shows in the game.
2-3 big things went wrong with Paramount Halo, and I have no confidence that Netflix will correct any of them. The writers room needs to be swapped out. I don't think I need to explain that one. We need more screen time devoted to actually fighting the Covenant. Paramount clearly didn't have the CGI budget to use the Covenant as often as they needed to. I think that's why we had so much human vs human and Covenant weapons fire coming out of a smoke-shroud. The third issue is Master Chief going without his helmet/armor, but I'm on the fence about whether I could let that one slide if the first two issues were fixed.
Either way, I suspect the old writers room is staying put, and I doubt a Netflix budget will be any better for the CGI than the Paramount budget was. Master Chief's helmet is a lost cause at this point.
Every studio that puts more effort into political postering over making fun and engaging games deserves what they get.
We don’t need this drudgery in our games, we game for entertainment and to escape the real world.
Pablo was also in the first Den of Thieves. He and Butler were the main guys
Banks/financial industry shouldn't get to decide that kinda thing. That is messed up. They should be punished for it.

I wonder if Live Service is the sin for games because look what happened? Suicide Squad, Live Service (it would have died either way). Then there's Concord and well that died hard. But when you make a game like Dragon Age and turn it into a crappy Live Service by the higher ups to only take it back... when their deadline was coming up. WTF. SIGH, this is just sad because Dragon Age Origin is such a wonderful game with its lore, its dark themes and every dialogue you make can change the outcome of the story. You expect its 4th game to truly create such insane branches and you can do WHATEVER YOU WANT... NOPE!!! Instead, it decided to make itself worse than Inquisition that if you compare that one with the Veilguard, Inquisition at least DIDN'T kill itself. SIGH. And for that? To compete against other Live Service Games? Stupid.
