Mostly the cities u see in the list are capitals of powerful kingdoms .As the capitals changed so did the list.Also india,china have been around for the longest time. The land was fertile therefore ppl settled here. So they were well developed civilisations even before america was discovered. This is the reason though india has been around for the longest none of the indian king ever tried to move or go to others countries for resources. So in the entire history no indian ever attacked or looted or destroyed any country.i dont think so many country can say that especially the west.It had the best education system in the world. From many religion to medicine ,astronomy, maths,science ,martial arts,music,dance etc india has contributed immensely(though the westerners dont want to acknowledge that fact)Poverty also was never a problem before britishers . I am glad they are changing. For too long white Europeans (I am mainly white European so I am unbiased) have thought that we had some superior "essence" over other races and not realized out relative advancements were entirely contingent, mainly on evil tactics like colonialism. Now white Europeans, including all the Americans and Austrailians etc. will have to learn to be humble. It's the only way we can have a world where we all work together. I trust the Chinese to be good stewards of a more global society....idk about the Indians though, as they currently stand at least with their politics.

Although I am not familiar with the city myself, i think 30-40 million is correct in tokyo's case. You have to consider the difference between the city as a metropolitan area, which is defined by commute patterns and presence of infrastructure, and the city as an administrative unit, which is an entirely arbitrary area defined by some authority. Every country takes a different approach to administration and cities, and there is an especially large difference between china and japan

It actually did not survive. After the conquest of Mehmet ll, the city was almost empty because of the war. Mehmet the Conqueror revived the city due to sending thousands of people to Istanbul and giving them a free house and some money to live there. Logan Murphy Well, you are right, but when it comes to count the population of a city people usually refer to the whole urban area, and not only to the space limited by the official borders of a city. The problem with this video is that it is inconsistent because for other cities it uses the population of the whole metropolitan urban areas: e.g. 38 m for Tokio (only 13 m for the proper city) and 21 m for Mexico City (around 9 m within the borders of the federal capital) and so on. So it should also count the 22,6 million people that live in the NY metropolitan area, 🤷🏽♂️.

For too long white Europeans (I am mainly white European so I am unbiased) have thought that we had some superior "essence" over other races and not realized out relative advancements were entirely contingent, mainly on evil tactics like colonialism. Tokyo's population on the chart is probably "metropolitan area" which includes everything around it, while, say, in Russia, there's no such concept as "metropolitan area" at all. @@wenyi8552 that is not the case either. tokyo as an administrative division is smaller than the actual metropolitan area. Although I am not familiar with the city myself, i think 30-40 million is correct in tokyo's case.
You have to consider the difference between the city as a metropolitan area, which is defined by commute patterns and presence of infrastructure, and the city as an administrative unit, which is an entirely arbitrary area defined by some authority. Every country takes a different approach to administration and cities, and there is an especially large difference between china and japan

Mehmet the Conqueror revived the city due to sending thousands of people to Istanbul and giving them a free house and some money to live there. That's why it was growing so fast at the beginning of the video.

Logan Murphy Well, you are right, but when it comes to count the population of a city people usually refer to the whole urban area, and not only to the space limited by the official borders of a city. The problem with this video is that it is inconsistent because for other cities it uses the population of the whole metropolitan urban areas: e.g. 38 m for Tokio (only 13 m for the proper city) and 21 m for Mexico City (around 9 m within the borders of the federal capital) and so on. So it should also count the 22,6 million people that live in the NY metropolitan area, 🤷🏽♂️.
