I am so happy for you. I have been plant based since 2008 and honestly I cannot imagine how I would be without having made that change. I applaud your ability to change and to learn and to grow. Being plant based will change your whole existence, it will change who you are as a person. Plus it is much healthier for the mind, body and soul and helps us age at a slower pace.

Been plant based for about 9 years. I started when I was 60 because of my husband’s high cholesterol. Best thing we ever did. It was a bit of a learning curve at the beginning to make sure we were getting a balanced diet but I have so many yummy recipes that I make. I a,ways make homemade soups.

@@gmailsender7274 Not true. A lot of people in their fifties are on medications now for high blood pressure diabetes, etc., with much of it caused by eating the Standard American Diet. Great for your parents, but these are the stats....Nearly nine in ten (89%) adults 65 and older report they are currently taking any prescription medicine. This compares to three-fourths of 50-64 year olds who report taking prescription drugs, half (51%) of 30-49 year olds, and four in ten (38%) 18-29 year olds. Aug 9, 2019

FYI: ground flaxseed is more absorbable by the body (whole flax may pass through the digestive tract undigested, so you don’t get nutritional value) BUT you should grind it at the time you use it or it can get rancid. Also, the bread and hummus were gluten-free but the oats and cereal may have gluten and even if you don’t have celiac’s, gluten is inflammatory= good to avoid for people trying to reverse autoimmune symptoms (i.e.- pain from arthritis) … 😊 Grateful to see so many people enjoying this wonderful Whole Foods plant-based diet

Definitely use ground flax seed. I grind my own in my blender as soon as I buy it. Then I keep it in the freezer so that it doesn’t turn rancid. Love the video!

I was plant based, didn’t heal me. I went carnivore after listening to Dr. Berry, Dr. Chaffee, Dr. Baker, & Homestead How’s channel, & in 2 1/2 months I no longer needed a cane that I used for 2 years!
After 8 months, I’m now a healthy size 6 still on carnivore, NO more diabetes or high blood pressure. My body is stronger & I now run, lift weights, & hike🥳. People tell me I even look younger. I certainly feel younger💪🥩
To each his own I guess🫶.

I do feel this will help you so much on your health journey. Side note; I read somewhere that it is best to keep your flaxseed in the fridge to keep it fresh. I actually keep mine in the freezer to be doubly sure. lol Love your recipes- I am constantly collecting and searching for new recipes- so thank you! Yes I name my dog Coco Chanel and I have to laugh because I do not have any high end handbags. I would love a Chanel bag I do have coach and I love handbags, so yes my dog is named after a handbag lol. lol but I love your idea of dancing with your husband that just made me tear up and I do dance with my dog maybe not the same thing but it’s sweet. Great video Beth.
Ive been eating plant based going on 24 years. My protein always tested normal not eating protein on purpose, just eating a regular unprocessed plant food diet.
I went through a protein phase for 8 months, thinking I needed protein to build muscle. I did a lot of clean plant based protein powders and protein bars.
The next time I tested my protein it actually dropped a little, after consuming supplemental protein for 8 months.
When I switched over to Whole Food Plant Based, I attended the McDougall 12 day intensive program and learned that isolated plant proteins arent necessary and can do more harm than good in our bodies.
After stopping all the protein powders and supplements a few months later my protein level was back up to where it was.
I found out that it is the supplement companies that are pushing protein on us, along with a lot of misinformed trainers.
The very seasoned trainer working with the McDougall program told me that I do not need supplemental protein to build muscle, I just need resistance training.
All plant foods have protein and we manufacture it from everything we eat.
We dont need to eat isolated protein powders and smoothies and protein bars.
Inately I was already aware of this but I did get sucked in by some mid age influencer who was inspiring me to add a lot of protein to my diet for weight loss and muscle building. Going whole food plant based gave me all the protein I need, in additon I released 26 pounds eating this way.
I saved money and my health by not consuming protein supplements.

why don't many vegans stick to properly prepared beans and lentils for protein and not a bunch of junk food powders and bars and convenience fake meats? its true we don't need the powders, smoothies and protein bars. it is important though to note that some of the weight that is lost on this woe is lean muscle mass!!! ladies especially do need to be mindful of their protein intake especially aging.

I turn 63 next week. I switched to eating whole food plant exclusive, no oil, low salt in 2020. My health has improved greatly, although I still struggle to maintain the weight I want to remain at. Just recently, I became a teacher of pilates reformer. It brings me joy to help people move their bodies. What has also brought me much joy over the years are my husband and my Friday date nights. We have a dance lesson followed by our one and only eat out of the week. Sometimes we go back to a dance party. Waltz, fox trot, bachata, cha cha, rumba, swing, night club two step, even country... We challenge ourselves to learn a cool dance routine and perform it in front of our fellow dancers. It helps move our bodies and work our brains. It is a nice social outlet too. Your video showed up in my feed tonight. I eat similarly to what you showed in your video. Going WFPB was so freeing to both my runner husband and me. No worries about what meat goes with what vegetable for dinner (boring). Now our veggies and grains and legumes and seasonings bring wonderful flavor into our meals.

It was really hard for me to make that transition because I “believed” in keto so much. But now these long term studies and my own personal results have convinced me. And if for some reason this isn’t the healthiest way to eat, I’ll change it again. I don’t want to be dogmatic I just want to be healthy.

Exercise is so important as well for our "second half." I enjoy soymilk as well. i'm glad for whoever feels great on whatever diet but dr. greiger scares me. he looks nothing like the media shots taken years ago. he looks horrible and unhealthy these days. the gaps elimination diet says meats are for nourishing and plants are for cleansing. when you nourish too long and when you cleanse too long, your health suffers. finding the balance is how most traditional cultures lived. they prepared their foods properly. didn't eat things like raw oatmeal and smoothie powder and bars and processed junk. no piles of raw spinach and kale. food was fermented and properly prepared so the body could extract the needed nutrients while keeping toxins to a minimum.

Be sure to rotate your dark leafy greens because raw, they are high in oxalates, which can cause kidney stones in some people. I like to use Arugula in my smoothies because it is actually a cruciferous vegetable and loaded with vitamins and low in oxalates, so I don't need to worry about it.

@@FiftyPlusBeauty You're welcome! Arugula is a health superstar, boasting an impressive roster of nutritional benefits that come at a small caloric price - meaning you can munch on the peppery green without worrying about your waistline.
Arugula is a member of the cruciferous vegetable family, containing antioxidants and phytochemicals, called indoles, that may help decrease inflammation and lower the risk of certain chronic diseases, and may help to reduce the risk of breast and prostate cancer, respectively. Additionally, the carotenoids found in arugula may lower the risk of certain types of cancer, particularly breast and prostate cancer.
Arugula is rich in vitamin A, an essential vitamin necessary for normal vision, skin health, and maintaining immune function.2
It’s also an excellent source of vitamin C, which protects the body against free radicals. Vitamin C also supports the normal function of blood vessels and the healing of wounds, iron absorption, and neurological function. Arugula is an excellent source of Vitamin K, which forms and strengthens the bones and limits neuronal damage in the brain.
Along with essential vitamins, arugula is a good source of calcium, a mineral needed for the normal structure of bones and teeth, nerve and muscle function, and the function of digestive enzymes. In addition, calcium helps maintain healthy blood pressure and contributes to the release of hormones, such as insulin. Arugula scoring a respectable 604 on the Aggregate Nutritional Density Index (ANDI), arugula is in the top 10 most nutritionally dense foods on the planet along with other superfoods including watercress and spinach.

Hi Beth I would grind up the flax seeds before putting them into smoothies and cereals. I don't think would be able to digest them if they are whole, and you would not get any benefit out of them. You may want to research on that. I always grind mine up before adding the seeds to anything.

Hi Beth! Great video! It looks like you are eating lots of great vegetables. I would also make sure with each meal to get 30-40 g of protein. It’s essential at your age to preserve the muscle. Hummus, protein shakes, edamame beans, fish (if you eat it). How is your blood glucose and A1C on this diet? It looks like you are consuming lots of carbs: oats, rice, maple syrup. I would stay away from syrups since they instantly spike blood sugar. Stevia or monk fruit in moderation would be a good replacement. You want to keep your arteries clean but at the same time not get diabetes. Wish you the best of luck and great health! 💕🌹
