Fab video, I’m really enjoying this series of seeing you turn that car around and get it back to something to be proud of. Great work.

My God, I hate that plastic bling on engines.
Good on you for being honest about the bores.

Great to see a 308 being brought back from the brink. Here in the UK they always rust iut at the front sull ends and where the floorpan meets the inner front wheel well.
Strangely though, I have an Australian (from City Motors in Sydney) 1991 XJ40. It came back to the UK in 1994, but has been perfectly preserved.

If only a cheap Jag could be brought back from the brink to look like a good one, without a complete restoration. I'm starting to see a lot of grubby XJR's around because power or the indication of it, has become more Importent than as good clean car.

Nice to follow what's happening. 'Modern cars' the so called the vintage of this Jag don't make it easy when repairing them in many ways, particularly years on when they are in the hands of your good-self dealing with issues. You have to be very dedicated for which I admire you for.

you're doing everything I've been doing over Christmas. I did those hoses under manifold by lifting it about 15 degrees, with some swearing and bandaids. 10 points for having to work in the driveway in summer

Great video, I’m enjoying watching you tackle the challenges.
I’ll look forward to seeing where you finish with it.
I love the shape of the x308, it’s a sleek stylish looking car, and the drive is something else.

I bought an XJ8 3.2L on a 2001 plate and although it was semi abandoned in a livery yard its not in bad order. It's in Sapphire blue and needs coil pack and some body work. The interior is great but the headlining is beginning to go. It will good to see how you go with yours. I paid £650 for mine.

You can recharge an aerosol can simply by removing the spray nozzle and using your duster gun and compressor push the duster gun down on the (pink) nozzle shaft and at the same time putting compressed air into it. This will recharge the can with air and you will be able to get the last of the product out. Done it many time on old cans that have been sitting for a while.

It's a saleable car. Lick of paint, new centre console, a few little bits. It'll make a nice daily that doesn't need babying about. Is it cost effective, nah, no-way, never! But when did that ever stop the average Jag fan.

Hi Brett, thanks for an interesting video. I have learnt something which has been bugging me since I purchased my XJ8 in 2018. That is an irregular tick over. From what you have shown in your video, it is more likely to be a dirty throttle body. I am considering removing it totally so as to give it a through clean. Have you done this on any of your other Jaguars and if so is it that difficult?

    • @tjmthejagmandownunder
      @tjmthejagmandownunder  5 місяців тому

I have never removed one, I can't see any point in removing it. Just clean it. If the problem persists, move on to the next stage

Stroke of luck with the matching bumper, and the trivial knock from the front end. All in all everything seems positive with the car overall, it’s great that it found the right buyer to improve and preserve it !

      Hi ChsrlesI
I was waiting for someone to mention that. Im not that silly. No way would I put my body at risk inspecting that car! At worst, if the car dropped, All i would get would be a bump on the head from the guard
I didn't have any stands handy, so I had two jacks holding her up.
Busy road but not a highway.
      Thanks for watching
      Brett

Great work exploring what needs doing. Annoying when tyre fitters use rattle guns. Whenever I get new tyres I always check. Don’t want to be on side of road with a flat and not being able to get the wheel off. Blown lights on the dash annoy me too.

TJM you know cheap car more work. Very cheap car even more work. And most very cheap classics will never come up to the standard of a good example without a full restoration. I learnt the hard way years ago. And then there is the big problem of passing it on without loosing sleep at night.

It looks identical to mine under the hood or bonnet as they call it. Thats good they don't rust out down there mine is completely rusted out to the point where it is dangerous from breaking down at the bulkhead just were the frame rails turn back to ninety degrees im going to try to fix it and construct a full perimeter chassis to make it stronger. Im going to find one like mine that isn't rusted out because mine came from up north in the US from were im located.

@@tjmthejagmandownunder oh yeah and now not only salt but they put down calcium too and that makes them rust really fast. I live in Kentucky and it's pretty harsh winters here but my jaguar came from further north than were I live were the winters are much more harsh up close to Canada is were it came from an my aunt being elderly she wasn't able to take it to the car wash when she drove it. And then it sat in her yard for ten years and it was drawing dampness from the ground and the sunroof had been leaking for years and that was hard on it. In fact I've never saw anything rusted so bad as this car..I think I would be better off to get one in good shape and keep mine for parts.

Coolant is oozing out through the rubber. Thats why the reddish color and as you mentioned the softness what comes when the support net inside the hose is broken. Hoses need to be replased very soon. Intake copletely off is not a big of a deal at all. Especially when you compare it to the SC model. Most likely all of the buttons background bulbs are blown too. They are quite difficult to find and tend to get pricey. i recommend to use 3W bulb as the gauges bulbs. Almost the same amout of light but way cooler than 5W.

What a disaster? don't get too excited with the clickbait my friend haha! I think it is in good condition considering what you have paid for it! Could be a perfect daily drive. Replace the drivers seat, clean the interior, and give it to wifey as a valentine's day present!

@@tjmthejagmandownunder Yeah these cars are so lovely to look at and to drive in when they are in good shape... But oh boy... prepare yourself when you think you have to do a small job on them. LOL! Anyway, they are not as bad as many people think. I am driving my XJ40 to work for some years now a couple of hundred of kilometers each time almost flawlessly. Not bad for a 30 year old Jag.
