That’s a lot of jars but i know you’ve got a lot more, tins & such. All I can say is WOW ! I’ve only smoked one flake tobacco, don’t remember what it was, it was hard & dry. Mine are mostly aromatics. I need to smoke my way through them & find the ones I really like. I don’t really want to be a tobacco collector. When the sun comes out, put the tobacco in the direct sunlight and see if it sparkles. If it does its plume, if not thats mold but yes, that is a lot of plume if it is plume.
Crazy for only a couple years old , mold usually grows up and is fuzzy hard to believe plume in just a couple years but hell you know I’m going to smoke dat shit anyway 😂🔥😎

That's a hard one on your 150th. It looks like it could be mold, but it's not looking hairy or doesn't smell bad. Smoke with caution. Have a good weekend.
Good morning, buddy! LJ Peretti makes a few blends I really enjoyed a few years back, most notably 7485. It's what the original Revelation blend wished it could be. Tashkent is an Oriental mixture with no Virginia in it. As we know, our palates are 180° apart. Good luck with the 150th, my friend!
Missed out on the Thanksgiving blend but did get some of the 2-14 Valentine's day blend. It also has a kids cereal tin note! Like cocoa puffs! Delicious change of pace.
ESF makes some really nice blends and Jim Steffey the proprietor is a really great guy to support. Not had that the Blind Monkey but its sounds interesting with the specific cigar leaf that he chose to include on that particular one. Personally, I like the Peretti TDay blend it is an enjoyable semi-aromatic. It's along the lines of Match Ready Rub IMO. Bummer on the Anniversary blend, too close to call. I'd be careful. But your Rustica looks quite excellent, smoke that!
Morning Brian. I knew if I watched you long enough, you would review something that would peak my interest. Being an aromatic (burley based) tobacco smoker, thanksgiving day sounds like a blend I need to try. I’ll be watching for it this coming November. Mine has been jarred since 2017 when Matches and I did our first review and it only comes out once a year. It’s real smooth now. My guess on your 150th is sugar crystals. Mold would stink. I guess I am lucky. My 150th doesn't have the 'mold' on it. It looks as fresh as the time I put in in the mason jar. However, I remember this stuff bitting like a mofo.
I've had some 150th in a jar since release as well and I see some tiny spots of white kinda here and there, nowhere near as bad as the jar you showed though. Thanksgiving Day is one of my favorites from Peretti, I'm still working on a 2021 jar and it gets better with every smoke. I don't get much rum either but the citrus juice notes are really nice. If you're into burleys now, grab a bunch of samples from Uhle's like you did with all the Peretti blends. Their base burley tastes a lot like that Cobblestone Hiking but maybe a little richer and a touch sweeter, I think you'll really like them.
Beautiful flakes! IMHO, because there were no fuzzy parts and it didn't smell rancid, I'd say it's plumbe. Looks like you have the ideal climate to age tobacco. 🤙🏼
Thanks for the review. I think the aromatic reviews are interesting. I want to like aromatics, but besides the Gawith ones, I can't find any that I really like.... well except for Warped St. Espresso. That one is pretty darn good. You can actually taste tobacco in it.
I like the meer. Been smoking a lot of em lately. As far as the mold goes, I had a nasty one on a 4th generation Virginia Jubilaeum (got reimbursed from Smoking Pipes) and it looked a lot different. Mine was hairy and truly covered the surface. Yours seems more intermittent in coverage. Dunno but I’m looking forward to your final assessment.

Hey man. I think the tobacco is fine. If it smelled or was raised above the surface a lot I wouldn't. If it were me, I'd smoke it. I heard Jeremy Reaves say that harmless funguses can grow on tobacco sometimes too. Take care.

Greetings, So Beans what does the mold say about the blend? What are the characteristics that would promote mold in a airtight sealed container? I have just a oz or two of that blend and it seemed to be very dry and hard texture wise when I got it about a year ago. Maybe I need to take a look now and see if the same thing is happening. If there is any casing on that blend could it be just the way the residue appears after some controlled evaporation or dissipation? Also, can it possibly mean that certain blends need to be stored differently? Thanks. Have a Great Day!!!
Hello Brian i’ve recently purchased Latakia and Louisiana perique whole leaf both came with white plume on it when checking and doing research and talking to someone at whole leaf there is no problem smoking that Tobacco brush it off for the most part but it is moisture, yes and sugar working to ferment those Virginia’s as you know all Tobacco‘s are processed with sugar dissolve, either in alcohol or vinegar. Yeah I’ve been told by a chemist on here there is no such thing as plume that it’s all been tested before and every time it come back mold but I guess some are better than others I’m going to smoke it this Saturday
That's a strange one, you know anyone with a microscope or scrape some onto a sterile sugar base and see if it grows... I wouldn't have tipped it on that nice tray! 😂 Let us know what it tastes like 😂 Lungs are nice moist and warm areas for it to thrive in.....
If you feel like spending money on it you could purchase a mold test from a home improvement store and have a sample tested. Looks like a fungus to me.

Generally agree with your rating. It's a perfectly OK blend--at least this last batch--but I find it to be inconsistent from year to year. The first time I tried it I found it to be quite appealing. A guy sent me a sample of a different year's production and.....well.....just no.

My pound of Peretti 150th anniversary is full of crystals, I think it’s oil from the casing. I have not smoked it since I got it. I think you’re good.

No ideas for sure but the port wine may play a role , I was told by several chemists there is no such thing as plume so I don’t know
I am not sure, but I think the best way to differentiate between mold and bloom is smell

I had Old Joe Kranz go moldy and it smelled toxic bad. It kinda has a mineral look to it but maybe a magnifying glass will reveal more?
