In today’s video, I’m planting out my tomato and pepper starts! Fingers crossed all my starts stay strong through this Florida heat!
Our homestead is based out of Florida, we value no dig and no till practices (deep mulching), while incorporating raised beds and permaculture values 💚

You’re like the peoples gardener. I like how you garden realistically that most people can relate to. Thank you 😊

I grew my peppers in pots this year and it’s been my most successful pepper season. I realized they loved heat but not the sun, so I hid them under my fruit trees. They got the morning sun and that seemed to be perfect.

That’s awesome! I plan to do the same thing. Pepper plants can be a little high maintenance, but totally worth it!

I always start way more peppers than i need. Peppers are so dramatic 😂 I'm in NE PA so I have to start some as early as February. some die hardening off, then transplant shock, then whatever finds its way into the garden for fresh greens. Im lucky i have half the plants I started 😂😂

From Canada, love your channel zone 5b. Finally after 3 years I'm having beautiful growth with my peppers, in the ground. Leaf Mulch spread in the fall really changed the game. Wish I had you length of growing season but here I have roughly 4 months before the snow comes 😢 Happy gardening Shelby, and keep up the great vlogs dear ❤️

Thank you so much for watching! I appreciate your support. I bet your garden requires much more strategy. Best of luck with your garden!

@@Homesteading.with.Shelby not much strategy, just heavy Mulch to keep the soil covered all year round and hope for early spring 🙂❤️

@@Homesteading.with.Shelby it truly is when you have 4 to 5 feet of snow insulating the soil on top of that Mulch. It's like a blankey for the soil 🥰

Have you tried getting seeds from grocery store tomatoes? Maybe there are bred for better heat resistance if they are grown locally

the biggest risk of planting so small is that bugs can decimate them that tiny. You know your area better than anyone though! Containers will need water often with the heat!

This is true! I’ve been watering them daily. But lucky for me, afternoon thunderstorms have been pretty frequent. Hopefully they grow to full plants!
