Well not just Apple. The USB, Thunderbolt, HDMI, DisplayPort, and many other certifications work in a similar way.

The difference between this and apple is that this chip isnt just a regulation chip but a lockout chip if you phone doesbt detect it. It wont charge even if the charger is built to spec

@@Vill-RL try checking the pins to see if they are corroded, other than that you can also use a computer or laptop to check if it’s a genuine cable using programs like 3utools.
I have a story about non-MFI Certified Lightning cables. I had bought a $15 pair of knockoff AirPods 3 to use until I either replaced or found my stolen AirPods Pro 1 (I found them, later on I gave them to someone bc I got new ones) and it came with a cheap Lightning to USB A cable and I never used it bc I had my 18W Apple USB C adapter and just used that with the headphones and my iPhone. One day I needed to charge my case and I couldn’t find my OEM charger so I used the included cable and the case almost caught on fire. If you buy cheap fake AirPods don’t use the included charger.
Anker, Aukey, Ugreen, Tronsmart all MFI certified, but idk about Baseus (gray area cable)
They have a lifetime warranty?! I’ve had to rebuy numerous times! At this point I just get my cords at 5 below
People are crying about iPhones being bad and expensive while you can get a verified cable for $2-5 that will for sure work unlike cheap usb c chargers that might break the port in your phone.

There is a chip in the board that is in charge of managing USB called Hydra, when using cheap and/or bad quality cables, most of the times that IC is the one that fries before other important parts of the board. Unfortunately, sometimes the damage can be extended towards even the CPU, so it's true that cheap shit in general can cause trouble, and it is not worth saving a few bucks over risking to damage the phone.

The cable does not regulate charging speed. It cannot do that. It is all done by the CPU in your phone. Unless the cable has a dedicated CPU(at that size around 100$) it can not do that.
