  • Good Kind of Failure
Here's a new song I'm extremely proud of, and I will be debuting it at next week's Respite Center Coffeehouse in Hopkinton. I'm also 99.9% sure it'll be on my next album The Iceberg... more on that soon!
I wrote it with my Respite friends Misha and Emily, and it's about the need to find a new positive word for failure. How else do we grow or learn without first failing at something? From our first steps, to tests at school, to work, and even to love, we all fail and that is usually a good thing. For example, Super Mario Brothers wouldn't be any fun at all if we just beat it the first time we played it. Maybe the struggle is kind of the point.
    Lyrics:
    Good Kind of Failure
I wish there was a word for the good kind of failure
We all fall down when we first learn how to walk
Holding my hand isn't always doing me a favor
I wish there was a word for the good kind of failure
I wish it didn't hurt so much when we skin our knees
But it's all just part of being this human company
Some scars are bad but others can be lifesavers
I wish there was a word for the good kind of failure
Each tough lesson learned can be your growth well earned
Even grief can grow you heart
All of life's most precious things go through seasons of suffering
We all go through failure at the start
When I'm down on the ground I know you'll pick me up
Falling over isn't always just bad luck
Without all these trails how can we grow braver?
I wish there was a word for the good kind of failure
