  • PMC, and LEO talks about a different way to grip a pistol. Through much trial and error I had to learn what works for me and maybe it will work for you too.

Honestly breaking down every fundamental is a great idea. Think of it as your brand or fan group. I personally watch many cool guys talk about the same topic so I can absorb full spectrum. I defently got the full magpul vid set from the KD range RSO when I was in. they are rather outdated but they setup the most important thing. Mindset.

Whatever works,do it. Muscle memory plays the big role in a shoot cuz it may be at nite or in the rain or snow or with winter gloves on.

Excellent. I'll have to play with this cause it does exactly what you say. Just dry firing it it seems to put me in a more relaxed position in arm extension. Definitely higher on the slide for support side which can help manage recoil/dot staying more in the window for follow ups.
One of the things that dramatically helped me over the first year of shooting pistol is to shoot at pasters. Don't put up a bullseye target or bad guy target. Put up a single 1" dot and practice getting good at getting as close to it as possible. Then each month or so as an evaluation, put up an a zone sized target (like computer paper folded in half) with a paster and then speed up a little. After several months of that (I'd go once a week) I'd have eveeything inside that a zone at a decent pace. Also learn a red dot if you havent cause it helps in dryfire to really diagnose and hone in your grip and trigger press etc.
It can be tedious work sometimes but it's good for improving.

Those Magpul vids are still pretty epic, let's admit it hahahahahahahahaha!
That Cop story reminds me of so many ex-LEO's that still have the same mentality lol, just, no lol.
I shot in the top 10% every time with Pistol on the WPS and FPS contracts (Glock 9mm and S&W M&P 40's), very happy with that performance over time, but there's always something new to learn or correct. I carry and prefer to shoot .40 still, love it.
Good stuff bro!!! I appreciate this stuff big time.

Late to the game but just wanted to chime in. I'am quite "handicapped" in regards to guns living in germany but anyway. I grip the gun and hold my arms exactly like you do. Especially with the striker fired offering that have bigger and longer trigger guards (on a cz 75 old model the trigger guard is so small, I cant grip it like that). Its more natural for me and I can control the muzzle way better. I am 5cm short of 2m and have not the smallest hands, maybe that why the often taught standard grip technique doesnt work so well. But the end of the story is it depends on the shooters proportions and what works for them.

Hey brother, any advice you would give someone who is heading to WPPS, in a few months?

Make sure you can shoot, make sure you are not fat and can pass the pt test no problem, and pay attention and ask questions. The training isn’t “hard” but it’s a lot of information. Make sure you know and understand all of it inside and out. …and good luck
