    Another excellent review.
    You have previously undertaken detailed reviews of the Fuji 18-60 and 18-135 in this general type of focal range.
    It would seem this lens is both far more capable, not to mention cheaper, than the dedicated Fuji offerings mentioned.
    Is it your intention to, time permitting, to undertake a comparison of these 3 lens?
    Or perhaps a follow-up video, revisiting the Fuji zooms referred to in light of what appears to be this game changer from Tamron?

    This is really great to hear! I have the Sony 16-55/2.8, and it's a terrific lens, but for "walking around" I always feel I'm a bit constrained by the 55mm a bit. I suspect this lens will spell the end for my A7R III with 24-105, as well as my 16-55/2.8 and maybe the 18-135 as well. Saving me a whole lot of money!

    Dustin thank you for your professional reviews! As always 👍
    I have Tamron 70-180 2.8 for Sony FE
    I have Carl Zeiss Loxia and you know what magic those lenses are.
    My first thought about Loxia is "trust" when I take it with me I know I can get the best results.
    (Depends only from my skills) 😂
    I also have Sony the cheaper ones F1.8
    And recently got Tamron !
    WOW I am impressed, already sold one of my Sony lenses and I am suprise how good tamron is even compare with Loxia.
    Best regards from Poland 😊

    The Sony/APSC bodies were starting to look like racecars without tires - simply crippled for their design purpose. Tamron may have actually saved Sony's product line from a Fuji wipeout...for another 1-2 years anyway. Great review as always Dustin!

    • @DustinAbbottTWI

      This lens is sharper (and has VC along with a bigger zoom range), but the Sigma is a lot smaller and has nicer bokeh.

    A6600 + this lense gives A7 III + 24-105 F4 a run for its money :) Basically, it's the same FOV and DoF in a smaller package and with better sharpness. The only negative is the fact that it's only for Sony APS-C, and it looks like Sony kind of gave up on APS-C. I can only imagine how well this lens would sell on Fuji.

      I haven't tested the Sony, but, looking at the MTF's, the price, and the fact that the Tamron has VC, I'd most likely go Tamron.

      It's so strange how much Tamron's pricing changes from market to market. I personally think the Tamron remains the best option on the platform, though.

  • @Vamp898
    @Vamp898 3 роки тому

    My girlfreind was thinking about that lense but the Bokeh is so horrible and the color reproduction is too.
    She was thinking about getting the SIGMA 18-35mm f/1.8, the Sony G 16-50mm f/2.8 and the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8
    After watching tons of reviews and being able to test all of them for a few days, she decided for the 13-35mm f/1.8
    Sure, it is much more limiting, but the resulting images looked just so much better in terms of Colors and Bokeh. To come around the lack of focal range, she is thinking about topping up with the 50-100mm f/1.8 which means she have to change lenses, but also means she does have 50mm, 70mm 85mm, 100mm all at f/1.8 in one single lense.
    And i agreed on that after i seen the resulting images. I rather have 18-35mm f/1.8 and 50-100mm f/1.8 with excellent outstanding image quality than an 17-70mm f/2.8 with horrible bokeh and colors.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  3 роки тому +1

      I don't think I agree on the color reproduction, but the bokeh is certainly not very appealing. The Sigma has been a popular choice, though. Not really a direct competitor, though, as the focal range is much more limited.

    • @Vamp898
      @Vamp898 3 роки тому +1

      @@DustinAbbottTWI The color reproduction from the Tamron isn't bad, but compared to the 18-35mm f/1.8 there was a visible difference. She tested on the a6600 and developed the Images with Picture One. Most of the time it was the same but at several situations there was quite a difference.
      Especially in images involving lots of gray with color nounces (like one picuture of a dam), in the images with the SIGMA you could see colors who have been there in real live, who haven't showed up on the sample shot with the Tamron at all (light green hue and color difference that came from different stone materials).
      With the Tamron is was just all gray with different brightness where the SIGMA was able to present very slight brown and green tones that have been on the stone structures.
      I am pretty sure that the Tamron (especially for its price) is an awesome lense, and of course, the 18-35mm f/1.8 is a strange comparison.
      Zoom lenses are always an compromise and everyone have to decide for himself if he wants to take that compromise or not. Some people decide for an 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 for an vacation trip.
      So if you need 17-70mm f/2.8 in one single lense, there is no other choice. But if someone thinks switching between two lenses is not that of a big deal and ok, the 18-35mm f/1.8 and 50-100mm f/1.8 is a far better option (imho).
