    The thing is, the 2-side view of the world used to be true in the Cold War, but as we're moving to a multi-polar war, you see the sides being very different in different regions of the world. For example Russia has good relations with China and India, but those two are on the brink of war. At the same time, you see traditional allies like Turkey and Azerbaijan, that are on very good terms bilaterally and support eachother in Armenia/Nagorno-Karabakh, but have very strategies in the wider Middle-East, and especially the Gaza Crisis.

    • @Punker85_YouTube
      @Punker85_YouTube 2 місяці тому +12

      I agree, I think this map isn't a bad idea but, as you said, the current world isn't as 2-sided as like the Cold War

    • @Ocelot835
      @Ocelot835 2 місяці тому +8

      Well, Cold War actually had something like this though so it's not that unique. Moscow having good relations and ties with two of it's allies, that despise each other and are predicted to go to war? Somalia and Ethiopia before Ogaden war. Other states playing their own game in the region outside of two "oficial" sides? Rhodesia and South Africa comes to mind.
      Personally, I'm not quite sure the current geopolitical state of our world even qualified to be called "Second Cold War". The lines are much more blurry and the world is not divided by ideological disagreements, it's more like collective interests of the Western powers coliding against "rule-breakers" states that do not even cooperate that much with each other on the deep levels.

    • @kennethreiser1296

      I disagree, while there may be local interests with countries Like Turkey or China the United States is still such a dominate power block everyone else falls into either a Pro, or Anti US camp at least for now. Turkey having it's own goals in the middle east is true for the most part all it's done is fight Iranian and Russian backed groups, and it lacks the recourses to stand as a major power on it's own. As for India friendly reactions with Russia or not if China lunches a full scale invasion they will get some level of US support, same for any country directly attacked by China, Russia or Iran, thus melding the 3 Alliance blocks together
      While there many things that could end it in the future, such as a war between china and Russia over Siberia, Iran causing major trouble in both of those powers with their Islamic minorities or the US taking a isolationist turn strategically, the 2 sided view of the world is viable, least for now

      @@cajunpowerwell ,as a hindu nationalist (not the minority oofing variety) i'd say it depends.
      Hindu nationalism is a large umbrella, we have many factions but 3 large groups , such as the pro west group of bjp in which I am , which makes the smallest of the 3 , according to my own experience about 17% of NDA supporters , we mainly want a hindu nation that is a democratic country and is minority friendly but embraces it's original hindu culture like the hans do in china .
      Then the 2nd one is Russia friendly (but not china) , they are our extreme members , they either want an autocratic state or even a theocratic state . They want a "strong man" figure to lead the country
      According to my experience, they make up about 21-24% of NDA members, but these are also the most vocal ones .
      The largest group and the absolute majority are the people who want what benefits India rather than one side of this cold war , ie they want a third side and a multipolar world , they lean somewhere between my ideology and a theocratic state
      Tldr : it's really complicated but we will most likely join the side that benifits us the most so probably the west since Russia is a dirt bag

On my map though I had the idea of coloring Russia yellow while keeping China red and the US/West blue (I thought about also maybe coloring Iran green but I don't know if I should go with that or not). I like having the multiple colors cause it shows more context on political alliances as it is a multi-polar world nowadays. India is pro-Russia but anti-China so it'd be a lighter yellow as only an example. I also think for nations allied to more than one color (think Pakistan in your case), I'd mix in both colors, but I'll leave that up to you. I think your map looks really good nonetheless. Keep it up!

    For the EU I had always thought about highlighting its border and colouring that, tho it probably wouldn't look as good.
    For India (and Iran and Türkiye as well) I chose to colour them in a different colour (green, orange, and purple respectively), together with the countries that were close to them politically (for example Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and N Cyprus were bundled up together).

    We are in a second cold war, a good way to demonstrate the complex dynamics.

  • @robrot404
    @robrot404 2 місяці тому +1

    I get that this is an oversimplification, but we have to recognise a very crucial difference between the First and Second Cold War
    the first one was a "bipolar" conflict, i.e. Two superpowers fighting for global hegemony by fighting in proxy wars which would determine the alignment of each state.
    This war was won by the US, establishing a "unipolar" world order in which they alone dominate world affairs.
    Not everyone is happy about this arrangement and a coalition composed of emerging superpowers and regional powers emerged seeking to undermine US hegemony and create a "multipolar" world in which no power dominates globally.
    Other than that they have little in common and often find themselves fighting each other, like how Russia and China are competing for influence in Central Asia, China flirting with the Taliban while it is fighting Iran, and there's plenty of other examples.
    To keep it oversimplified I think the colours should be based on their relationship with the US alone with Blue being friendly and Red meaning hostile rather than a spectrum between Russian alignment and American alignment like how it was in the First Cold War, since it is outright wrong in some cases like China which is definitely more dominant in it's relationship with Russia or India which is friendly with both Russia and the US.

    Ok, so I think there're a few things incorrect with this map, so here's my thoughts on what should change.
    -Brazil is still under the Lula's administration, so it should be light red.
    -Both India and Turkey have mixed alliances, so I would suggest painting them in a 3rd color or a mix of red and blue, as "mixed alliances".
    -Cambodia is currently being invested heavily by China, and it stills supports China in the South China Sea matters, so it should be red.
    -Call me out if I'm wrong, but isn't the post Sadamn government of Irag is a US puppet, so even if the Iraqi population resents the US occupation, shouldn't it be light blue.

    I think a major difference between this cold war and the previous one is that the third world (lead by India and Brazil) is much, much tougher. It's really an independent "don't get us involved in your silly shenanigans" bloc which is veeeerrry loosely unified by a desire to see a more multipolar world. India, Brazil, Turkey, much of South America and most of Africa and Southeast Asia aren't so much anti-western as they are ambivalent about the west, and many of these nations also have disagreements with western countries and Russia-China aligned countries. India is the biggest example. India is deeply suspicious of China, with which they have huge border disputes, conflicts over water and a grudge due to China's attempts to surround them via the string of pearls. However India is also suffering from significant democratic backsliding (or at least a backlash against western style liberalism) and retains amicable relations with Russia and Iran. India's greatest geopolitical rival, Pakistan, is friendlier to China than it is to the United States. Turkey is a member of NATO which has huge issues with Russia regarding it's support for the Assad regime, but also has huge issues with the Americans regarding American support for the Kurds, and is much more willing to negotiate diplomatically with Russia than almost any other member of NATO. Saudi Arabia has been moving closer to China since the beginning of the Biden administration and especially since the start of the war in Gaza. Finally, I would caution against depicting the Beijing-Moscow-Tehran triangle as a unified alliance rather than an informal dictator's support club unified purely based on weakening American hegemony (and in the case of Russia and China, cooperating against islamist terrorism in Central Asia - which is a rather loose term given that the Chinese Communist Party seem to think terrorism = Uyghurs). They will all quickly turn on each other if they achieve their goal of a general American withdrawal from Eurasian affairs.
    I'm not saying this to critique the map, which is of course amazing, and you are of course aware of how oversimplified this is. I don't want to discourage you. I think the issue with mapping the myriad entangling alliance systems and overlapping influences in the modern world is that depicting them all would create so much overlap that it would make any 100% accurate geopolitical map illegible. It's a weakness inherent in the art of mapmaking rather than any failure on your part. But this system you've invented here is by far the most comprehensive I've seen anyone use, and I look forward to seeing how you update it as time passes!

    I tried to make a map like this, with mostly the same results. However, I found it quite difficult to determine the allegiances of most African countries. Also, the world is more complicated today than during the first cold war. Some countries, like Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and India should be colored as the centers of their own smaller regional blocks.
    Also: where did you get the blanc map for this? It's often hard to find a suitable one.

    The idea is interesting. However, trying to simplify this 2nd cold war based on only 2 camps focusing in a single conflict (ukraine war) may be impossible. We are entering a period were there ware multiple cold wars happening at the same time. Some are aligned and others are not. Perhaps a better option (more labor intensive) would be to create multiple maps (1 for each conflict hot spot). Though this could require more work, it could provide better results. Example:
    * Map 1 regarding the ukraine war global position, though this could also be replaced by a map regarding Russia challenging NATO with Ukraine as the battlefield (you could assign % values in order to determined the color overlay)
    * Map 2 USA vs China (you could assign % values in order to determined the color overlay)
    * Map 3 regarding Israel x Palestine global position (you could assign % values in order to determined the color overlay)
    * Map 4 regarding China vs Taiwan Global position (you could assign % values in order to determined the color overlay)
    * Map 5 regarding Iran vs Israel global position (you could assign % values in order to determined the color overlay)
    * Map 6 N.Korea vs S.Korea (you could assign % values in order to determined the color overlay)
    * Map 7 India vs China (you could assign % values in order to determined the color overlay)
    With those maps ready, you could use those % values in order to merge all 7 maps into a single 8th map. The color scheme would probably end up quite varied.

    Love the work, and I agree in the global possessions as you represented them, but I feel like the Western and Eastern Blocs are different in nature. While NATO has strengthened their alliance and structure after the Soviet Collapse, the new Eastern Bloc works differently. Key players present complete different ideologies, they may work together because of shared objectives at any given time, but their geopolitical affinity is the result of Western pressure rather than anything else. I think the big 3 players: China, Russia and Iran, should each have a unique color, maybe in tonality of a warm color to denote their closeness. I do agree that there are players that play differently, Turkey and India, maybe Brazil, but their influence outside their border is limited. I don’t like the idea of them being a mixed country. At the end Turkey is part of NATO and India of the BRICS+
    I do adhere to the notion that the world, geopolitically, is going in to be multipolar, with different nations taking regional relevance and their alignment to the great powers will be more limited than seen in the Cold War.

      @@hazzmati Starting from 1918-1921 and 1991 Azerbaijan tried to occupy the whole Syunik province.
      Nakhijevan was cleansed from Armenians during 20th century, Artsakh canished last year , now the Syunik province is the last barrier between Turkey and Azerbaijan. They call it "Zangezur corridor" and they will do everything to occupy this territory , and this is now a life or death question for Armenia and its independence. Even if Syunik is full of Armenians , Azerbaijan will do a genocide to clean Armenians out of the Syunik.
      In Azerbaijan right now there is a total propaganda , where Armenia is called "Western Azerbaijan" and claim that Armenians never existed and they came only when Russians occupied these territories in 19th century (I'm serious).
      They are falsificating the whole history and also they destroy the physical marks of Armenian presence. Churchs , Crossrocks and Christiann-Armenian architectures are being destroyed right now in Artsakh, like how they did that happened in Nakhijevan.
      The only provacators here are Russia , Turkey and Azerbaijan. Armenia is the one who is defending itself from ethnic cleansing and occupation from the dictatirships .
