school these fools man ....philly is a normal big city...not like nyc which rip the common person off with very high rent..$2800 -$3300 for a one bedroom or studio in midtown...philly you talking a $1000 or less
that's why when I moved from philly to NYC everyone on my job were crying about their rent and living 3 and four in one apt.
philly has strong culture NYC is a sloppy mess because a city can have far too many people and becomes confused of its identity. NYC today is basically a tourist and hipster yuppie town..old new York is gone

C- Philadelphia88 I'm thinking aesthetically. Decaying architecture, reminders of what was. The history, Abandoned houses etc. Obviously the ghetto isn't beautiful. The living conditions aren't ideal for anybody, trust me I'm in it everyday. My dumb ass tries to look beyond the surface sometimes, and my glass is always half full 😊👍✌.

based on these photos Philly looks the worst, burnt up buildings, piles of trash. Then Chicago. NY most of the pictures just looked like older buildings still well maintained.

Did you visited the dirty Bronx...or the outerbouroughs or did you just stay in Manhattan where most tourist stay
Chicago is a cleaner city than both...but Philly is a great city...it's a really cool city
Philly has a lot of culture and character
New York is not a normal city it's a mega city...new Yorkers talk a lot and what they mostly talk about is rent....all day long..rent rent rent...because they can't afford it...they need a roommate to help pay for the rent
Philly people are the most loyal
Chicago is a beautiful urban city

New York finally is getting their act together. Once apon a time New York was hell on earth. The bronx was known as the bronx is burning and home of fort apache (corrupt police station). Harlem was where everyone in the country went to get their crack and heroine. And brooklyn made detroit look like Beverly Hills. The bronx till this day holds the record for the most arson ever committed in the world. But through all this crime we made hip hop,Harlem shake etc etc. the world looks down at ghettos but New York looked like wwII hit it but something came from that and that was art. New York has had a huge facelift compared to wat it was in the 70s and 80s. And the crime in New York in the 90s was terrible. But it has had a dramatic facelift. Probably the biggest ghetto facelift the world has ever seen

Not as bad as the murder capital DC from 1989 till 1996. Detroit back in the early to mid 90's and today has the worst Brooklyn hoods beat. And Miami in the early 80's had the highest murder rate ever seen in an American city above 200,000 people.

Interesting video.... Shows that every low income housing areas have the same capacity BUT very different. New York has high rising buildings (with fire escapes), Chicago housing is more suburban and has large land space and nature, and philly is more congested, with close connected houses that is similar like NEW York & Chicago, but smaller. Every time I travel I don't always hang out downtown, but enjoy I go to every neighborHOODS to see the real vibe and real people in that city.
I live in Chicago Southside, I must say our low income home areas look more suburban. It look totally different than it did a decade ago since they tore down every the high rising projects especially Cabrini Green. I mean you would think a middle class family would live in these areas.
But like these cities, all of them have GREAT places to hang out and live and this doesn't show the overally morale of the city. Had a pleasure to visit Philly on my birthday a year ago, looking forward to visit New York especially.

Terry E. Rucks Here's what I've noticed from looking at slum areas of Detroit or Chicago. It's either inner city or an urban area full of smaller buildings and it kind of looks like a low income place, or it's a neighborhood type of place, looks kinda like the suburbs area but poorer.

  • @alexandermcg2061
    @alexandermcg2061 8 років тому +7

Philly by a long shot. However, I would venture to say that Newburgh, NY is the most aesthetically fucked up place in America. Cincinnati's inner city is pretty bad too. All these cities have a lot of housing stock from the early-mid 1800s that truly exhibits urban decay, as opposed to the kind of thing you see in a lot of midwest cities where so many houses just collapse and you have an urban prairie situation like in Detroit or St Louis (which are actually much more dangerous). For the best example of early-mid 1800s architecture in decay, see the center city of Colon, Panama.

Been to all these three cities, especially NYC. Honestly, I think Chicago in my experience has been roughest ghetto out of these three. A lot of people on here say Philadelphia’s ghetto is worse than the other two, but my best guess is probably because one thing I noticed there is a lot of trash on the sidewalks and streets there.

I'm repping NYC and it looks like Philly has the most squalor among the three cities in this video. Ghettos look like huge, neglected, urban areas, almost like graveyards but it is still home to me. People can believe what they want, but you really can't speak it unless you lived it. I love the soundtrack. It captures the beauty within despite the condition.

NYC got those towers project bulidings. 80 to 100 families living in each building. Streets are deep as hell in NYC long too, go on forever. Chicago got some similar buildings.I been threw Philly those 2 or 3 stories row homes don't look bad to me. Philly is a lot smaller then NYC or Chicago. So very sad. Detroit and Baltimore are even worse. New Orleans, Atlanta and Memphis have areas like this. Meanwhile, in greater Boston, even in ghetto areas of cities like Chelsea, Salem and Lynn, you'd be hard-pressed to be able to find even ONE blighted property! And Roxbury in Boston? It's rapidly turning into another wealthy in-town neighborhood.

ok, here's a thought: why leave these existing buildings boarded up and vacant? Instead of tearing down projects and forcing families out and spending horrendous amounts of money building "mixed income" developments that public housing and low income will not be able to live in, why not spend some money to rehab these existing houses (if possible) and using the refurbed homes for those people being pushed out?

New York has more hoods than Philly or Chicago combined maybe. Its a lot bigger than both of those cities. Been threw Philly, those small 2 to 3 story row homes don't look bad to me at all, I seen the same buildings in the suburbs. The amount of ghettos are countless in NYC. The streets are long as hell, deep streets and go on forever. Those big tall tower project buildings with 80 to 100 families living in them are the worst looking. It could be like 30 buildings, and that looks crazy. Chicago has some similar buildings. In the 80's NYC, no city comes close to the amount of Decay and vacant buildings, even modern day Detroit is paradise compared to back then in NYC.

In the 1970's, middle class residents abandoned the big cities because of racial tensions which could not be resolved politically. Middle class jobs and small businesses went with them. Nevertheless, major super rich companies remained in the downtown areas were many wealthy people continued to live and to support high-end culture such as museums, libraries, orchestras, historical centers, etc.. College and university areas also maintained an educated student population with their low-brow but intelligent kinds of activities. Meanwhile, the poor and uneducated began to sink lower and lower into dwindling opportunities, social chaos and finally drug dependence. Now, however, the trend in most cities is that young college graduates want to once-again work and live in walk-able densely populated urban areas--creating a process of re-growth towards middle class neighborhoods called gentrification. The gentrification movement is economically and racially integrated. Though tensions remain, it appears that both sides realize that they must learn to co-exist.
