This scam was used on my grandparents in 2016. They lost $4,000. My grandmother swore it was my voice on the phone, explaining how I was in a car accident, driving without a liscense, broken my nose and in jail. A couple years ago the same scam was done on my grandpa, just a month or so after my grandmother had passed away, only this time they said my brother was in a car accident. My 80 year old grandpa, who used to be a sailor in the navy back in the 50s, cussed them out. It brings myself and my mom such joy to see you getting them so upset, thank you so much for your hard work.
My mom at age 80 got a call about my nephew. She had early stages of dementia, and she said it sounded exactly like my nephew. She did have enough sense to ask " where is your father right now?' in an effort to vet the scammer. My brother was out of the country and scammer hung up.
It didn't seem like it was humour, it was a nervous laughter. He's thinking something to the lines of "This b- is ruining my life and making jokes about it".

I was so excited to have my own money for once. Then, a scammer reached out to me saying some pretty threatening and scary things like this, and I panicked & fell for it. Some scammers are scary smart. I've heard of some scam retail workers and do so by memorizing the names of other staff members, including managers and regional managers. They'll trick them into taking the cash from safes and registers, deposit them into their own personal accounts and wire the money to the scammers.
The constant gaslighting and the little "have a drink of water and calm down" is such a reversal on them! Glad you were able to waste their time and get that information to the professionals that can use it to help prevent this in the future!
I love that they kept the scammer tied up long enough to keep him from bothering anyone else. And he was probably so frazzled after this that he might have been out of commission for a while.
They tried doing this exact same scam to my Gramps! Told them I was in a car accident from reckless driving and was telling him that I wanted him to bail me out and not tell my parents due to embarrassment. Fortunately he called my mom, who contacted me, to where I contacted my Gramps directly so crisis adverted. There's a special place in hell for these types of scammers.
Anyone who tries to contact my mother to tell them I've been in a car accident is going to be in for a surprise. One, I spend most of my time with my mother, since we live together, so if one of us is in an accident we probably both are. Two, I can't drive, so she's the most likely driver if I've been in an accident.

Why the pointless pessimism?

Glad you're getting into the field.
Maybe one day you could team up and do a video together. It’s good to know there are people out there learning how to keep people safe online.
It's so great, because with these scammers their time is their money, and any time they spend on Kit is time they don't get to spend scamming others. And it turns into fantastic entertainment.

This is why I can't listen to prank calls while driving - too unpredictable and erratic
Glad your grandpa knew it was bs. Crazy how they go right for the grandparents.
My mom at age 80 got a call about my nephew. She had early stages of dementia, and she said it sounded exactly like my nephew. She did have enough sense to ask " where is your father right now?' in an effort to vet the scammer. My brother was out of the country and scammer hung up.
My grandma got hit with the same thing, luckily she knew better.
13:26 "why was 6 afraid of 7?" 😭 Even the scammer chuckled at that 🤣
Yeah that was weird that he still had an ounce of sense of humor left.
It didn't seem like it was humour, it was a nervous laughter. He's thinking something to the lines of "This b- is ruining my life and making jokes about it".

This sounds like the exact same scam my grandma fell for. Sadly she is now passed. I miss her, and it makes me so proud to had such a great grandma that would shell out thousands of dollars for me like that when she was living on social security. Thats real love right there. It angers me these assholes prey on the elderly. Thank you for getting them back.
Miss you, Yama!
It always sounds stupid but it's easier to fall for these than it seems. I almost bit the pge scam. I knew my power bill was past due and they called from an official pge number. It wasn't until my wife stopped me "why are you using zelle to pay pge" and i was like yeah now that you day it like that it sounds really stupid. But it works because they pressure you "power shut off in 30 minutes" and my brain shut down.
@@blaisemacpherson7637 they specifically target old, tech-illiterate people or people with mental health issues. No regular functioning adult should be falling for these, unless Darwin is trying to send a message.
I love that you view it that way. You SHOULD be proud to have a generous, protective grandma who worked hard and saved money for the exact reason of having it to take care of her family. It’s awful and unfair that it happened to her but on her end there were only positive traits on display. She must have loved you very much.

I got scammed when I was a minor after I made over 2k at my first summer job. I’d never seen that much money in my life and I spent the whole summer saving. I was so excited to have my own money for once. Then, a scammer reached out to me saying some pretty threatening and scary things like this, and I panicked & fell for it. The scammer also knew specific info about my family and even knew how young I was & used all that to his advantage. I used to be so ashamed over it, and sometimes I still do to this day, but these videos genuinely help me not feel alone (and they crack me up too). Thank you for doing this👍❤️
Cheyanne, i felt that way after an auto accident i had when i was 17. I just felt dread when i thought about it. Im 65 now and was talking with my family and most of them didnt even remember it! So get rid of self condemnation. You are free from that. You didnt do anything wrong!

Anyone who tries to contact my mother to tell them I've been in a car accident is going to be in for a surprise.
