  • Very late to the party, MotoMan drives the 522 HP Audi e-tron GT. Yes, the obvious is that this Audi e tron is heavily based on the Porsche Taycan. What was unexpected is how different the Audi e-tron GT is from its closest competitor that gave it life: The Porsche Taycan Turbo.

    The RS is the turbo cross shop for only a few K less (640 hp). the regular 522 hp e tron gt here is essentially a taycan 4S.

    Hey G! As always you've created a fantastic review.
    I'd like to say THANK YOU for spending time with me and my son at the SoCal Die Cast Cars & Coffee in El Segundo a few weeks back. And thanks for the Toyota puzzle, too! We had a great time and you were a big part of that.
    Oh, and the E-Tron GT looks a lot better in person than it does in your vids. The color pops better and the design is quite a bit lower and sleeker than the images let on. Great work.

    Stellar review as always. For an EV I think it has fantastic aesthetics. It’s funny as I actually prefer it in black, because the front is SO MUCH black that it just too much, and at least in black it kind of all goes together.

    Great review, thank you. Though your comment at the end seems a bit off. A RS E-tron GT or Taycan Turbo S with Cup 2 tires is faster around just about any race track vs a M5 or E AMG car.

    Totally agree that Audi is WAY on top of interior design nowadays. From this all the way down to their entry level stuff. Light years better than say, BMW's glass cockpit design (& I own & like BMW stuff). Definitely would like to see more Audi stuff on the channel. Their stuff is mostly super underrated here in the U.S. IMO.

    As someone looking at a Turbo or RS E-Tron GT, I ended up ordering an RS because apples to apples the Audi is a bargain.
    The etron GT is equivalent to a 4s, Turbo to an RS.
    If you want Options the E-Tron GT wins in price

    • @njasicko
      @njasicko Рік тому

      For sure! I am wading through that rabbit whole of options vs options in both cars and now especially in the used market the GT/RS GT is much much cheaper. Does your Audio show effective total life (ie battery degradation) in a menu?

    Went to an auto show this week that had an EV "drive along event". Rode in a 2022 Audi E-Tron GT. It really looked, and felt like something out of a sci-fi movie. What a gorgeous, high tech and well built car. I asked the Audi lady "what's the base on this" and she almost was embarrassed to say "starts at $102" we both knew that meant "thousand"... Umm yeah. At this rate, people in Venezuela or Russia or Morocco will be driving EVs in 2259 or so...

    Once again this review is like no other with accurate analysis of steering and handling. Sure others point out the driver modes but their summary is vague, uninformative and brief because quite frankly it drives better than their Buick which is their basis of comparison. Maybe Audi didn’t want the comparison against the Taycan to be that revealing. Hey @audi aka Sherlock, batteries weigh a lot and until they fix the energy density and lighten the weight; handle it. I mean literally handle it with steering that hides the weight with feed back from the wheels that communicates confidence in the most aggressive driving mode.

    I have no problem with electric vehicles - although nothing sounds like a pair of secondaries the size of your fist opening with your foot planted to the carpet - but geezus. It's two passengers short of weighing as much as an Escalade. It needs more brakes than a Sonata N Line or Elantra N.

    Excellent review as always. Its a decent looking car and the interior is nice, but the wheels look like rental car wheels. Does someone want this as their only car? If not, then a second fun car? But my problem is, if it is a second fun car, at 120k, I feel like there are way more ICE cars with more soul and less electric car issues(charging times, range). I would rather have an M5.

    Car manufasturers really need to stop puting piano black in cars over 100k and near stuff you often touch.
    Also, I think this car is price and power wise closer to Taycan GTS, and that car is much better allround option, especially in its Sport Turismo version.

    Great review as always but I’m a little bit confused though. I thought you had a great close relationship with VW Group. You already get some of the earliest access to anything and everything Porsche, so why not Audi? Is it really brand dependent within the Volkswagen group on whether you get timely access to a new product? I can’t imagine for example Toyota telling you that you can shoot the new GR 86 or Supra, but don’t expect to get any access to Lexus press fleet vehicles in a timely fashion. I like Audi personally and would like to see more of it on your channel, but I’m just surprised to hear that they aren’t giving you early access to their vehicles considering you get all the access you want to their halo brand in Porsche AG.

    • @MotoManTV
      @MotoManTV  2 роки тому +1

      Each brand within the VW Group has its own PR group, thus making their own decisions and creating different lists of folks they provide access to. Yes, they can vary greatly between brands even within the same parent. While Toyota/Lexus is not as fragmented as VW group, there is some separation there.

    I've had a fair few Audi's and currently on a 2014 S3, pre face lift model. I love the build but I'm growing weary of all the black inside.
    I parked next to one of these in our local supermarket the other day, finished in black and completely agree that you must have them in a bright colour. Not sure what the situation is across the pond but here in the UK the choices are awful for such an expensive lump of metal! Can't even get the "choose a special colour" option anymore..... 😢

    I've driven the Taycan in many trims (currently have a 4S loaner in the garage now), and while fast and planted, the car just is so soulless. My wife cannot wait to get her Panamera ehybrid back. You cannot mask the weight and the overreliance of tech on these cars, too much touch screen nonsense (I'm even a millennial and I hate it). I just sold my 911 and because we're moving downtown, lost a parking spot - so instead of a Taycan 4S/GTS, I'm going for a G80 M3 to save myself $50k and gain back driving enjoyment.

    Good-looking car

  • @snakeeyes9246
    @snakeeyes9246 2 роки тому

    I love this car, but have a few gripes about it that make me want the Taycan more.
    1. You can't get a round steering wheel in this car. And most of them have Alcantara on them, which I personally hate.
    2. The 3rd seat in the back is standard in the Audi, optional on the Porsche. The seat will never be used and it makes your already poor rear visibility even worse. Most Taycans do not have the seat, so the visibility is a lot better.
    3. The Taycan's cup holders in the front are a lot less compromised and in a better spot, even if both cars lack an armrest.
    4. Porsche also has a Turbo S trim that is much more powerful than the RS E-tron GT.
    5. Audi's steering even in dynamic mode is too light. In sedans, I prefer heavy steering. The Porsche steer apparently is as stiff in normal mode as the Audi is in dynamic. Of course, sport and sport plus make the steering even tighter.

  • @ParkslopeDope

    I realize this was a year ago, but I’m hindsight not a great review. You compared the “base” GT to a Taycan turbo. That’s like comparing a Carrera S to a Turbo S, not supposed to drive the same.
    This is an analog to this car is the Taycan 4S.
    Not sure what you were talking about with the cross shopping points. The Audi like for like with similar options is a better bargain to a similarly equipped 4S.
    You then talk about the lack of feel (which is for sure subjective, I happen to think it’s grossly over exaggerated) but by definition this is a “GT” not a sports car, so it’s supposed to be tuned softer and as more of a grand tourer.
    Both cars are amazing and you can’t go wrong with either, it’s just a matter of personal preference or if you’re a badge snob and want a Porsche in your driveway vs an Audi.
