NS should be ashamed for not putting pantographs on those diesels to operate on the NEC, what a waste of diesel fuel! The New Haven had electric/diesel hybrids, (FL-9, etc), so why cant that still be done?? (The FL-9s were 3rd rail.)

You do know at one point the NEC had pantograph-electrified freight, yes? Freight traffic on there (as well as Keystone in some ways) has decreased greatly (other than off-network manifests and reroutes) in the past 50 years, and many Class 1s that operate on it aren't going to dump millions into a pantograph-electrified locomotive order or project. They find it cheaper and in a way easier to just keep the same units from point A to point B, as I would imagine locomotive swapping and crew change would be a hassle.
Also, this form of operation is not uncommon. Many post-soviet Eastern European railways still run diesel locomotives over electrified line, Estonia does it with their exported Dash 7s.

@@seaboardspastic ummmmm, why yes!, PRR GG1s, and possibly E33s/E44s, and other smaller PRR/other roads electrics.

@@seaboardspastic yes, ive seen steamers under catenary also in some videos from overseas, and some RR museums do that too. The Illinois Railway Museum near Chicago does that on their "Showcase Weekend" in September, traction, steam, and diesel, all running under catenary. And they have trolley busses too! But they have their own roads, and dont run on the train tracks. Kind of neat to see a Shay steamer under wires.
